  1. I love the MPC Camaro kit especially the widebody IMSA release, but this redo of the Monogram kit looks pretty sweet. I can't wait for it to hit the shelf. Glad to see they filled in the T-top as I never had much luck filling them in.
  2. Love to see these! It's about time for those IMSA Mustangs to make another release.
  3. Nice build, those Monogram Exotic kits really turn out nice and your's is exceptional. I wonder who owns the tools for that series? Maybe Atlantis of Revell can rerelease them.
  4. That's nice! Good idea to use the Cobra as a start, should be good for long distances and high speeds. lol
  5. Looks like some good progress is being made. I'm still out with the bug. It's not flu or Covid, so at least that's something. Just started a round of antibiotics. I checked the paint on my entry and it's dried enough that I managed to get it polished to a decent level.
  6. Excellent find, I'm envious! The Craftsman kits were basically an unassembled promo. Lots of good surface detail, and they really build up nice as curbsides. I'd love to see them reissued.
  7. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it, our vehicles and technology except for wheels/tires, should be something available in or before 1975. That's not as limiting as it sounds though. Lots of good go fast stuff available back then. In researching ideas I found that Penske's Trans Am team bought Porsche 917 disc brake systems, stamped them with AMC part numbers, and used them for their Javelins. There were no laptops or cell phones or satellite navigation apps, but rally teams had accurate analog navigation systems and CBs worked pretty well for avoiding traffic and Smokey. For my build, I've found that by 1975 German tuners were already switching Audi and Porsche parts into early Golfs to boost handling and performance.
  8. A little before my time, but I remember my uncle built and that's what eventually got me into it. He built actual race cars for the local short track racers. Most of the models he built were the cheap Palmer kits featuring sprue roll cages, painted with Testor's brush paints and with dents courtesy of his cigarette lighter. I started mostly in the late 70s when I was a kid and kept at it off and on ever since.
  9. You never rode in my best friend's first car!
  10. This kit is the old ESCI Golf kit from the 70s-80s. I just entered one of the ESCI versions in this year's Cannonball. I also have the AMT kit and compared them and they just cut down the sprues to fit in the smaller box. I too bought the AMT kit expecting something totally different.
  11. Well, all the family has left and I have time to work on my entry. Unfortunately I woke this morning with a stuffy nose and a fever. I did manage to get the body painted a cheery orange, so that's something. Here's hoping I'm better in the next couple of days.
  12. The real car was based on a Fiat, I can't remember which one. The kit is one of Fujimi's curbsides, but it builds up nice.
  13. All the stores in our area have gone to Rustoleum and have only a limited selection of Krylon. Krylon is a much superior product and I always prefer it when I can find it much less find it in a color I need. One good thing about where I live is the hot summers with low humidity make Rustoleum almost tolerable. But I have been searching garage sales for a good dehydrator.
  14. I caught that same clearance sale. I went in to get one of this kit on the 40% sale and they were all marked down. They had seven of them and I bought four for later projects.
  15. It's also cool that a Gran Torino wagon competed in 1975!
  16. Nice! If I were to win the lottery, a resto-mod Fiat 131 would be on my wish list!
  17. I can see some uses such as parking or close quarter maneuvering, but it's probably more of a gimmick than anything else. The Rivian and I think the Ford EV truck can do a 'Tank turn' like an old Army tank. The wheels go different directions and let the vehicle turn around in place. That could be cool!
  18. I'm taking you're advice for the new year. While looking for something I realized I have a bunch of boxes with sprues and loose parts. Maybe I can get organized in the New Year!
  19. That's a good idea! I can see how those smaller tractor tires might work for a mud bogger. Also, some of the 1/32nd-ish scale Fast & Furious diecasts sold at places like Walmart have pretty large for the scale tires and wheels. Some of them work pretty well for those smaller 1/24th scale kits like the Mini and such.
  20. Just in from Japan. I ordered some stuff from Hobby Search and am really happy. I've been wanting the Mitsubishi for a long time to build one like was used in Cannonball Run 2. Ironically, I have an Abarth already that I forgot about. I think I got it around 2000. Obviously I found it again after I'd already paid for the new one. A few years ago I put the old one together quickly but with some new tires. The ones in the box had cracked I guess from age. Not sure what size the Asuka wheels are, but they look like 15 inch or so.
  21. Some really nice choices so far! It's shaping up to be fun!
  22. I bought quite a few this year, but I was surprised when closing up my parent's house was 11 big boxes of unassembled kits I bought over the years. Way more than I'll ever build. I thought they were thrown away long ago, but my dad put them away for me and forgot about them. I need to go through and thin them out. What's fun is finding kit's with clearance sale tags from places like Kay Bee Toys and Toy-R-Us.
  23. I have the AMT, the Revell, and an MPC EXP kit. I bought them when they were cheap with the idea of making an American Escort GT like I used to drive. Decided that my skills weren't up to it. Now, I'm thinking of building them up for fun. Are the AMT and Revell kits the same? Were they tooled by ESCI or someone else?
  24. Ollie's related news at least to me. Big Lots is closing down and my wife wanted to see what was left at our store. The lady at the checkout said there's a rumor Ollie's is planning to take over a lot of the closed buildings. That would be good as the closest one to us in central Texas is about 60 miles away.
  25. You reminded me of something! About twenty years ago a friend did resin casting. He always put the silicone in a vacuum chamber before pouring it to force bubbles out. That way when he pressure casted the parts they didn't have those bumps.
