Started some work on the frame and going through my parts boxes for some fuel tanks. I couldn't find a Detroit diesel so I picked up the AMT Pete at HL today with some Christmas money. I've cut the frame and have a mock up of how short the wheel base is going to be. It measures out to scale 140". I'm going by a couple old pictures.
Anrd Fronter has them on eBay for $55 plus shipping. The quality seams pretty good so far for a resin. I plan to cut the hood so it will open up. The details are better than there regular Bighorn that they sell. Thanks JT.
This is a Fonters resin Dodge Bighorn and the Diamon RIO for the donor. My plans are to build like 1 of the 2 that Chrysler built before pulling out of the class 8 rigs back in the mid 70's. The Shortnose never made it production. I'm going with a 134" wheel base and a blue and black paint. Here's what I'm starting with.
JT, it must of been a season I'm in the same position as you and now getting back into building again. There is a lot you can do with these trailers your JT Orange looks good on it too and the Lonestar will make for a nice combination.
Erik I would stay with your original plan with the top. It will give better protection for your cars. This is a very interesting build and excellent workmanship.
Here's how a load of Mopars fit on the transporter. The lower level has limited height on the back car. My 68 Mopars are long cars so length wise you should be good.
I've not had any problems with the trailer supporting my cars and some of them are resin kits that weigh a little more.
Sprayed the 2nd coat today and fixed the over spray on the A frame. Next will be to respray the white top. Made a test fit to make sure every thing still fit.
It's been a while since I've been able to find time to spend working on the repaint job. Today I BMF the emblems and sprayed the first cost. Plan to add the second coat tonight and the white top tomorrow.
Looking good Gerry. I doubled checked my instruction sheet and decals for that tack decal and was surprised that there was not one provided. I'm about at the same stage as you in your build I've striped mine and just about ready to repainted it.
I'm in the same boat as you guys. Tha past couple months have been hard to get time at the work bench. Today I spent a couple hours with my 8 year old granddaughter who is building a 68 Mustang.
Joe looking great! I like your punch of remaining items to do. I'm just wondering did you add your bolts to the front license plate I could not tell from the picture?
