Gotta get my wisdom teeth removed.
Aaronw replied to Berk765's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had mine removed last year, 2 in Jan, 2 in Oct. While it was not fun, it actually was nowhere near as bad as I expected. I took the vicodin the day they came out but only used tylenol after that for 2 or 3 days. I'm really glad I had it done, only wish I had done it years before. -
The AMT '84 GMC / Fallguy pickup would probably be your best option, fairly easy to find and it includes a ton of 4x4 bits too, off road lights, grill guard, CB radio etc.
-
I mostly built one (still in my not quite finished pile), not a bad kit. It's on the simple side but still easy to modify. I did mine with a pickup style cab. I was working on this several years ago, but it has a decent size V-8 in it already so I think you could get a Chevy smallblock or similar in there if you wanted to.

Thanks, looks interesting. Did you edit your original post to include the scale or was I really that blind last night?
-
What scale is the flathead? I've never really been into building a model of a motor but that might be kind of fun.

I've had an idea for a zombie hunters truck floating around my head for a couple months. Things like that tend to happen when I watch Night of the Living Dead (both versions), Dawn of the Dead (both versions), Land of the dead, 28 days later, 28 months later, Shawn of the dead and then read the Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z within a short period.

I've used Magic Sculp, its fairly easy to use and is hard when it sets up. http://www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=110&

I can help you with the decals, send me a PM with your address. It's not too hard to do a license plate, there is a site that has a tool for doing license plates from aroud the world but I don't seem to have the link anymore. Your other option would be to use the old style license plate. I'm not sure how NY works but in California you can transfer personal plates from one vehicle to another. With a long time personal plate you can end up with older style plates on a new car.

Revell Shelby GT500 and Shelby GT350H kits
Aaronw replied to gasman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I like a stick too, but its getting harder to find cars with a manual transmission. A nice compromise I found was the autostick in Subarus. No clutch but you can tell it when to shift or set it in auto mode and let it do all the work. Not sure how wide this option is besides exotic cars and Subarus. Of course it still has the down side that you can't roll start it if you have a dead battery. -
Have a look around AITM, he doesn't have any of the trucks suggested as possibilities but he does have a Mack L which would be the right time period and looks similar. He also has a Diamond T 950 but I'm not sure of the year, looks to be from the 60's so probably too new. http://www.aitruckmodels.com/

hearse and ambulance conversions

If well done I think you would get enough buisness to keep you busy. You might have a look at this website to get more details http://www.professionalcar.org/ -
hearse and ambulance conversions
Aaronw replied to sdrodder's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If they are actually correct to a specific pro-car builder of the time, instead of a generic ambulance or hearse then these could be really popular. I'd like to see a 4 door version of the Chevy too. -
Sneak peek ....The IMC Tanker Trailer kit is back !!!
Aaronw replied to SteveG's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I know this Lindberg release will spare my Revell Beall tanker from the saw. I'll use that for a big tanker and get a couple of these for truck mounted tanks. Yay Lindberg. -
AMT Rescue 911 Dodge Ram Van?

If you could only choose ONE photo of any of your builds, wich would it be?
Aaronw replied to JAFFA's topic in Model Cars
Well it was actually 5 kits but with the same theme. Someday I'd like to get these together with an appropriate photoshopped background. -
Hey GreggH, got an Idea for eModelcars......
Aaronw replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well ebay is trying to get away from what made the site a success. They want to get away from the garage sale atmosphere and become just another online shop, not a wise choice in my opinion. -

Never used a sniper program and never intentionally sniped anything (I have found at item at the end of the auction a few times and won but thats not really the same, just luck). I agree with those who just bid what they will pay. What difference does it make if I bid $100 with 6 days left and win at $95 or keep upping my bid to win by paying $95 at the last minute. I pay $95 either way and if someone pays more than $100 they win either way as well. -
The good news is yes there is one, the bad news is I don't remember who makes it.

Looks like SAE ditched their forum.
Aaronw replied to Phil Patterson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey, Jeff any chance of dragging old Mike K "the mad doctor" over here? I miss his wild builds and the tales that go with them. I used to be able to pop over to SAE and check out his stuff but the new forum is really terrible to navigate. -
I'm wondering if there may be some records issues regarding scale at Lindberg. Some of their aircraft kits have been mislabled as well. Is it possible Lindberg thought the Gremlin was 1/24 when they ran the molds?
-
I have had one in my stash for quite sometime but have never built it because of the odd scale (1/32). I have seen quite a few that came out very nice but don't know if it was a chore to get it that way. Lindberg's American LaFrance would complement the Mack nicely if you wanted something of similar scale to sit next to it.

What are your favorite car songs?
Aaronw replied to Darrell Gwinn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I kind of figured the Who version was a cover, how many British kids are going to find a Model T in Tennessee? Funny how many of the classic British bands did covers from other bands in the beginning before the labels would let them cover their own material. Remebered another one Blue Chevrolet - The Beat Farmers -

we may be saying goodbye to Mercury
Aaronw replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The badge engineering is just another example of boring, thoughtless behind the times American car manufacturing. The US auto manufacturers have never really caught up with the fuel economy thing, from the 70's onward it has been a shell of what it once was. When fuel economy was becoming an issue what did the US manufacturers offer? The Pinto, the Vega, the Gremlin and I can't even think of a Chrysler attempt. Ok, that was take one, I can see a little stumble, so what was take two, the Pinto, the Chevette, the Pacer and the Omni (Chrysler didn't even try they just bought a Mitsubishi, based on the other offerings probably a good move). What did we get outside the US. The VW Beetle (a 30 year old design by the 70's and still a better car), the Mini (maybe not a great car but it has some style), and then the Japanese cars, Corolla, B210, Civic real cars with good economy, good reliability and much higher standards than the comparable US cars. By the 80's most of the big 3 had given up and were just rebadging Japanese cars in the economy segment while they continued to spend the bulk of their effort on big traditional American cars. Ok, Ford gave it a shot with the Escort, perhaps an improvment over the Pinto but not even close to the quality of comparably priced Toyotas, Nissans or Hondas. By the 90's the Big 3 were finally starting to offer cars that at least gave the Japanese cars a decent run, in my opinion still not up to the standard of the Japanese cars, but when given a nudge for being "American made" were competitive. Then the SUV craze hit and the Big 3 dumped the progress they had made and once again dropped the economy car as anything more than a cheap car. They also dumped the one thing that really made them different from everything else, being American made. Now you run into the odd situation of an "American" car built outside the US while some "Foriegn" cars are being built in the US. The US auto industry is cheap and lazy, if they want to survive they need to become innovative, creative and proactive. Instead of treating the consumer as idiots what if they actually made the lines different, even if only skin deep. There have been many love it or hate it car designs, so why not offer the Ford in a futuristic design and offer the Mercury version in much more traditional sheet metal or offer one in a performance version and another in a luxury economy version etc. Offering the same car with a minor change is just a duplication with no real gain. People should be buying the car for something more than the name. In the 70's Ford had the Mustang, a high performance "Pony car", Mercury offered the Capri a very different sporty car, in the 80's the Capri was just a Mustang with a different grill. On another website someone mentioned the complete lack of support for the Chevy Colorado, while they push the full size Silvarado. In the Colorado Chevy has finally managed build a truck to compete on a fairly equal basis with Toyota for the compact truck market. I say this as someone who believes Toyota makes the best small truck in the world and has for a long time, what does Chevy do with it? Nothing, they try and push their full size truck which (again my opinion) is the weakest truck among the big 3 as an actual work truck (and what the full size truck is supposed to be) while the Japanese are beginning to eat there way into full size truck sales, an area traditionally well in the hands of the Big 3. If the US auto industry does not change its ways and lose its sense of entitlement (to sales by US consumers) we wont have a US auto industry for much longer. The days where someone would plunk down their hard earned money for an inferior product because it is "American" made are quickly vanishing, when was the last time you saw a Zenith TV? Harry your Cougar is great, Mercury should fire its designers and hire you.
