Is that a Jet-a-Way two-speed behind that 330 V8 ?

'80s Monogram kits are pretty good kits

I don't have the verbatim quote , but it was definitely along those lines . I got a good laugh out of that one ! Haha . I remember more of the article / review / build of the then-new T.C. , as I bought and built numerous copies of that kit because of your enticing article and wonderful work . -
I've been wondering , With all of the attention that the Mustang ( Elanor ) garners , has anyone built replicas of the other cars in the film ? I'd imagine that "Jill" would be easy : 1970 Challenger R/T , 440 Magnum , with 1973 front and rear fascias . Has anyone built any of the Gone ! In 60 Seconds cars from the 1974 movie ?

I remember that ! Haha ! When @tim boyd's review / build of the '87 Turbo Coupe came out in S.A.E. in late '86 / early '87 , he mentioned the '86 'Bird ; to paraphrase : "It appears as though Monogram dispatched the factory gofer to find a Thunderbird to take a photo of for the catalog. " -
Who makes a resin 62 Olds F85 Kit??

Was the 215 V8 decent in the Jo-Han kits ? -
I didn't think that that was the case , esp. since the calipres in the kit's instructions are of the 4-piston variety ( like the setup that was used on the 1965-1966 Mustang , 1965-1972 Dart and Barracuda , and 1966-1969 Coronet and Belvedere ) .

I was surprised to see a disc brake option ! Were those an actual option on Oldsmobile -- esp. the A-Body -- in 1964 ?

Differences between the 1971 "Satellite" (really , a Road Runner sans the iconic bird , and with the upgraded interior) and the 1971 GTX : - 'Air Grabber' bonnet - Six Barrel induction / air cleaner / Air Grabber bracing - GTX (and Satellite Sebring) rocker panel embellishment - "Tuff-Grip" steering wheel - "GTX" emblems - GTX decals - Engine compartment accessories If the Fast & Furious version has the Road Runner ("Satellite") bonnet , I must wonder if the steering wheel from the "Satellite" will return as well . There's some rumblings about the inclusion of the 1972 Road Runner rear bumper / tail lamps in the F&F release... ...now THAT would be great ! Hopefully a 1972 grille will be part of the package . -
I used Evergreen strips to take-up the gaps on the bonnet on the one I'm building (actually , I boxed it 'cause I burned-through the clear and got mad , hahaha !) . I was building the customised version , which was my intention from the beginning .

I obviously overlooked the '71 'Cuda (and its 'Street Machine' derivative from 1984) , the 1969 Judge ( with brake drum fins none-the-less ! ) , and the Superbird (1988 ) . The 2-in-1 / 3-in-1 variations from c.1985 of any of those kits were nice as well ( I can't go on without the mention the fact that all except for the GTX received those ugly , dime-a-dozen Centerline wheels ! ) The 1965 GT 350 , and the 1964 GTO (both c.1985) were outstanding kits at the time . I agree that the 1965 & 1966 Mustangs have stood the time test ( 1/24th scale not-with-standing ) . The Cobra kits are from c.1988 or so , 1990 at the latest . -

Muscle Car Series , c.1982 , ad seq : 1970 SS-454 Chevelle 1969 1/2 Super Bee 1970 GTX 440 Six Barrel 1970 Challenger T/A 1971 "Satellite" 1970 BOSS 429 New Vehicles Series , c.1986 , ad seq. : 1986 Monte Carlo SS 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe By c.1987 , the Monogram 1970 BOSS 429 was modified into the Shelby GT 500 , then marketed under the Revell banner . The 1989 Thunderbird Super Coupe was a great kit ; very advanced for its time (still stands up today) . As a side note ; I clearly remember when that 1986 Monte Carlo SS was released ---- I was overjoyed when I saw a stock 'Carlo ! I initially saw a built example in the display case in a hobby shop in Buena Park ; this was around my birthday (April) . The example I saw in the case was so cleanly built that I said , "Someone put a lot of work into making a stock Monte Carlo out of a NASCAR kit !" . Then the shop's owner told me thqat it was an out-of-the-box build of the new Monogram kit . In retrospect , it's funny to see the 1987 Turbo Coupe being relegated to Basic Builder status ! That kit was state-of-the-art in 1987 ! -
Hopefully the sides are "inserts" ; and hopefully the 1968-only interior , etc. , tooling isn't modified into the 1969 interior . Then there's the 1969 model year "alternator-side-swap"... Unrelated ; how much effort is involved in changing the upgrade Super Sport interior to that of the 300 model ?
-
Technically , 1962 : the "T" = "1962" ( think : TX9 black ) . Since TB3 was never reformulated , it retained its 1962 prefix . For the 1972 model year , it was offered as a regular colour ; prior to that , it was coded as "99" or "999" ( 1970 Superbird for instance ) . Yes , it was called 'Corporate Blue' prior to 1972 .
-
But , what about all of the flash ? The "poor engineering" ? The Abbott & Costello Blood Pressure Monitor ? The horrors ! I'd rather pay $10,000 for an original issue that may or may not be in time-capsule condition ?

TB3 'Basin Street Blue' ( Plymouth) 'Super Blue' (Dodge) . I have an aerosol can of it that I got at work .

*Lowering Suspension-- AMT 1953 F-100*
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
@Metalbeast , @Plowboy : Thanks much for your help ! I have an original-issue Revell 1956 F-100 (c.1962) ; I'll check it for the dropped axle . There's A LOT of "tyre burn" on its parts' trees --- hopefully the axle isn't one of them . The "axle-over-springs" technique sounds equally compelling ( thank you , Plowboy , for the pics --- great F's you've got there !) . -
I like the , umm , "egg crate" grille ?
-
I wish to lower the suspension --the ride-height-- of the AMT 1953 F-100 . I'm planning on detailing the chassis , etc. , so no "butchery" should be recommended , please . So , keeping the stock straight front axle and its leaf springs , what's the best way to lower the front ? I'd like to keep the stock rear suspension as well , just lowered a bit . I'm building it as a slightly-customised work truck ( e.g. , the grille which looks similar to a '60 Edsel ; the '57 Chevy "bullets" ; the Merc tail lamps , etc. ) , so nothing radical as far as ride-height . Suggestions , tips , and especially , photos , are greatly appreciated . Thanks !
-
Boy , did I open a crate o' apples by mentioning the shoulder restraints ! Haha . Sorry about that , Steven ---- I didn't realise that my suggestion would incite such a reaction . Those decals look awesome ! I wonder how many people left those induction hoses connected / uncapped during snow or heavy rain ? If anything , a bit of moisture would do help prevent the dreaded detonation of lower-octane gas ---- so long as it doesn't ice-over the carburetor .
-
I agree regarding the ad infinitum , ad nauseam releases and reissues --- pennies-on-the-dollar , indeed . And , certainly , from a business-point , so long as the aforementioned reissues fund new or restored kits' developments , then more power to Round2 ( et alia ) . As far as that Yenko Camaro from Round2 : I've never paid it any attention , as the Revell 1969 Camaro kits (at least two iterations ; the c.1990 Baldwin-Motion Phase III and the Z/28 , and ; the newer COPO and SS/RS - Pace Car Convertible ) is a vastly superior kit . I didn't realise that the Round2 1969 Yenko was a new tool ---- it , by all prima fascia accounts , looks exactly like its ancient MPC annual , ad seq. , moulds . I can't wait for the Supernatural 1967 Impala "Sport Sedan" . While I'm not a fan of four door hardtops (a few exceptions , of course) , I'm pleased as pie about a 4 door G.M. B-Body kit ! I'll just have to make it a sedan , and put not-ugly wheels on it . Station wagon... That one's got me on pins & needles ! The possibilities are endless ! The Pro Stock Vega , in Grumpy's livery , is going to be a huge hit . No more moulded-on single exhaust ! Be sweet if a relatively-stock chassis (tubbed rear is just fine) is under the Vega kits , as I'd love to build a Motion Super Vega with an LT-1 under the tilt-forward L-88 bonnet that's in the MPC 1974 annual that I have .
-
I recognise that you're building my favourite model year Duster ! That MPC annual has been my White Whale since seeing one at a model contest some 32 years ago ! I had no idea that anyone made a '73 Duster -- I was shocked to see one ! I have two "glue bomb" 1973 Duster kits which I got for a song via eBay some 10 years ago . I'm waiting for my skills to "re-improve" before I tackle building them ( using the AMT 1971 340 for its superior chassis , engine compartment , 340 , etc. ) . JY9 is a beautiful colour . I used to see quite a few Dusters --and Darts , et alia-- around when I was younger . May I recommend using Hamtramck Historical as a reference : Interior https://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1973ColorAndTrimPlymouth-07.shtml Options (engines , etc. ) https://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1973PlymouthDealershipDataBook-05.shtml
