Late 70s Dodge Dart Pro Stock 1/31/12
1972coronet replied to caine440's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Ambre-coloured parking lights = 1976 . Looking great so far ! Is this based-upon the new(er) issue of the "1975 Duster Hardtop" ? . -
Where did you get the wheels ???? I LOVE Spyder Wheels , and have been wanting a set or two ...

That's cool that you're friends with George . I've always liked his builds , his subject matter and his style . Does he still have any of those builds from years ago ? The '71 GTX , '70 AAR , '71 440 Six Barrel 'Cuda , etc.

What I'd reallylike to see done with this kit's moulds after this release , and after the NASCAR re-release , is for the moulds to be modified into a stock'71-'74 Charger ! Maybe since it's already got the '73-'74 Charger quarter window arrangement , it'd be easier to just make it a model from those years . But , then again , I'd really like to see a 16th scale '71 Demon , '72 Charger Rallye , '70 Duster , '72 Road Runner ... I'd even take one of those in 25th scale !

Thanks for your reply . Yes , I remember reading about Mister Bojaciuk's [sp?] emblem making process many years ago in "one of those [model car] magazines" ; and , I cannot believe that it's been over 20 years since I read the first article showing this I've never had to attempt this process before , as 99% of the time I start with new , untouched kits , so this'll be a first . Thanks again

I'm sure this topic's been covered numerous times ; and , truthfully , I don't have the patience to scroll-through 60+ pages to find it : Making foil-impression emblems , using aluminum foil . I just got some vintage '73 Duster kits ( MPC annuals ) and am wanting to make the moulded-on badges ( the "DUSTER" markings ) before I so much as lay down some primer . I grabbed a small portion of a sheet of aluminum foil ; gently-pressed it over one of the (faint) badges on the front fenders ; gently buffed the impression onto the foil with a Q-Tip ; then filled the backside with super glue . Does this sound about right ? Anyone have some better suggestions ? Thanks much !

Keith Marks' '76 Dart Lite Decals
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks for the heads up on them and for your opinions / advice . The whole undefined image borders thing reminds me of how MPC's decals were back in the old days ! Those used to frustrate the hell outta me when I was a kid ! The first MPC kit I built was the '75 Pinto Sportabout ; and when I went to apply its decals , I just trimmed them with a 1/2" border . NOT !! That wasn't good enough ... plus , MPC's decals were brittle and fragile even when they were NEW ! Granted , I was 5 years old when I built that '75 Pinto ; however , "once bitten , twice shy" truly applied , as it took me years before I added decals to another kit again ! Never-the-less ... I'll give the Marks decals a shot . I'm glad you made mention of their sensitivity to setting solutions -
Keith Marks' '76 Dart Lite Decals
1972coronet posted a topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I was pursuing Keith Marks' site last night and I noticed that he's got a decal set for the obscure 1976 Dart Sport "Dart Lite" ; also included are decals for the "Spirit of '76" version . The set looks great! It has the interior's seat and door panel inserts , as well as decals for the gauges and for all exterior 'emblems' . While I've heard nothing but good things about Mr. Marks' products , I'm interested in knowing as to whether or not anyone's used this set in particular . -
If its interior is anything like the later , modified-reissue ( red one with Champion 500 wheels ) version , then yes , it has a full , stock-style interior similar to a '73/'74 Charger S.E. bucket .

Seeing this -- and any Street Freakreminds me of my childhood . I grew-up none-too-far from the world famous Whittier Boulevard scene ( actually , right between the Muscle-type car portion of Whittier Bl [eastern-sections] and the Low Rider areas [western-areas] ), so I fortunate enough to see both types of customs ( loved 'em both ! ). I can still see those wild , mile-high Freaks , with their psychedelic paint jobs , Jimmy huffers , tunnel rams , fenderwell exit headers , Cragar S/S wheels , Black Sabbath blasting from the Craig 4-Track players ... ahhh ... the good ol' days ! If not for the blatantly contemporary AM/FM/MP3/FDIC/TGIF receiver in the dash , I'd easily assume that this was time-capsule find !! And that 8-track player under the dash with its Boston "Don't Look Back" tape peering-out is too much !! Great job , btw , with your scale-version of this "Cop Stopper" !

How 'bout painting it FM3 Panther Pink , and calling it "Malibu Barbie" ?

out of your comfort zone build entry finished..

While I'm no fan of the newer-styles of Low Riders , I must congratulate you on your build . Catalinas certainly were used as Low Riders , but mostly by Caucasians . I used to see Riviera , Toronodo , Grand Prix, Catalina , etc. , etc. , used as L.R.'s all of the time where I grew up . They were slightly different from the 'typical' , classic Low Rider customs : they usually had Astro Supremes , Cragar S/S ( 13" variety ) , 50's-style paint schemes , and were affixed in their lowered ride height . There were other subtle differences , but they still shared a common thread with their Hispanic , Afro , and Asian ( yes , our Asian brothers hopped-on the 'wagon , too ) brothers rides . Someday when my ship comes in , I want to build a 1:1 1955 F-100 Low Rider in 60's-era garb ( Muntz 4-Track player , Organ Pipe Speakers , Astro's , the whole 9 . -

I remember buying this kit at GemCo in Downey ( Ca ) back in c.1977 , and building it at my relatives' house ( also in Downey ). The "roll your own" mini box is a nice touch , especially since it's devoid of bar codes ( models didn't receive bar codes for pricing until much , much later ) and especiallysince it's void of the dreaded "made in china" marker ! I'm going to have to get myself one or 2 of 'em ...

Thanks for the reviews and opinions ; the faults and corrections . I had this kit back when it was pretty new , circa Christmas 1984 ( maybe 1983 ... can't recall right now ). It was a Christmas gift from my parents , along with a spray can of Testors Sapphire Blue Metallic ( I said nothing to them about how blue wouldn't be an easy colour over the red plastic ) . With this in mind , I'm planning to get this reissue ... ... along with a can of Testors Sapphire Blue Metallic ( although I despise Testors' paints for the most part , excepting their factory car colours ( Hemi Orange , etc. ) and factory engine colours ( whenever are they going to add Chrysler Turquoise and Chrysler Orange to their line ??? These engine paints have been around nearly 30 years now !!! ) , which are good . The original I built back in '83 or '84 had a Primer Gray ( lol ) interior , as I'd used it for the base coat for the metallic blue. The 1987 Whittier Earthquake destroyed my SVO ( along with 99% of my model collection ), so I now have a chance for a requiem ! This kit dropped almost as quickly as it hit the shelves ( anyone know why ? ) , so I never had the chance to build its replacement . My mother passed away almost 6 years ago , which fueled my strong desire to build this SVO again . She's the one who picked this kit out for me , as she knew I liked Mustangs and that blue is my favourite colour ( yes , tears are welling in my eyes as I'm typing this ). It's great to see this is available again ! My only gripes about its return aren't gripes which are exclusive to this kit : "Made In China" , and the lack of the coveted "Good Year" on the tyres .

Anyone here have experience(s) with Scale Coachworks' transkits ? I see that they have ( had , actually , as it's sold out ) a 1970 Dart Swinger : http://www.rocketfin.com/resin_product.cfm?id=4852 If anyone here has built one or more of Scale Coachworks kit , I'd like to see them , along with a critique . Thanks !

I just bought the re-reissue of the Tom Daniels' Street Fighter 1960 Chevy panelwagon , an am eager to start on its construction . I had the Bad Actor version of this kit back in c.1979 ; however my building skills were mediocre at best at the time ( I was 9 years old ) , and the kit went unfinished . Now I have the great opportunity to at last build this bad boy all the way through ! What I'm looking for are assembly tips . I've taken notice of the way the flip-front attaches to the chassis and to the front splash pan , and am curious as to its stability upon completion . Any tips / tricks with this great kit ? Thanks .

The most-recent issue of Muscle Car Review is chock-full of Oldsmobiles , with an obvious concentration on the beloved 4-4-2 . Among the many 4-4-2's in the issue is the one which was featured on the original issue of this kit : The fire engine-esque red with a paintedwhite roof .

Very nice one-percent'er ( or is it 2%'er ? ) you've built there ! Super clean , and unfettered , just like an indi racer's car would've looked .

Here's what's >supposed< to be THEE Mannix '68 Dart GTS convert : There's mention of it being a 340-powered car ( sounds about right , as the 340 was new at the time ) , and not a 383 Mag . IF that's the case , then the motor IS Chrysler Engine Red ( 1969 was Blue ; 1970 - 1971 was Orange ; and 1972 - 1973 were Blue again ). No matter , really . I know that whatever you do with your replica , it WILL be gorgeous !

Mr. Mike ! How's it goin' , bradah ? I hope that you're well . Looks like a cool project ! I like the scale , 1970-issue Ca plate ( the "A" = 1970 issue ) . I know what you mean about the -correct- colour for the '68 383 HP ; something tells me it's -- in this application , the 300 hp "A" Body application -- Chrysler Turquoise , just like its big brother 440 HP of the same year ; the "383 MAGNUM" pie tin has a red background , iirc ... But , then again , it IS a custom ( albeit , a mild custom ), so who's to say that the motor wasn't repainted ? Granted , there's a slim chance of that , as most closed-hood customs had completely stock motors . Do It To It !

Sport Suburban : those are some gorgeous builds there ! How I wish that the 1972 Road Runner would be reissued ... or at least the '71 , so it could be combined with the ModelHuas '72 reproduction bumpers / grille / tail lights *sigh* I'm so freakin' happy about this reissue !! I'm planning to stock-up on a few of these ; the excellent TorqueFlite and its mate , the righteous 440 Magnum , are worth the price-of-admission alone ! Not all cars came with the coveted exhaust tips ; certain counties in California required that cars be sold with the Noise Reduction Package , and therefore , no tips ; just the turndown exhaust . Wish I still had the Street Machine version which I built as a Super Bee 340 ( motor from one of the '71 Duster kits that was otherwise incomplete ; and the trans from the Charger kit ) . Certainly , it wasn't a 'correct' representation , but impressive nevertheless . I gave it to a friend for his birthday back in 2003 . A 1:1 Charger S/E with the 440 Mag is a fairly rare piece , as the 383 Mag was supposed to be the top engine choice . I've subsequently seen : - '71 S/E with the factory-installed 440 Mag ( from the L.A. plant ! ) - '71 Super Bee with the 440 ( a small batch of those were run-off as well ) - '71 Super Bee press-release vehicle ( in a magazine from Octobre 1970 )

My thoughts exactly ! Those wheels / tyres actually look very nice on there !
