What's Your Background Noise?
mademan replied to a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
when I build, if I get too relaxed I get bored. Generay when building I crank some slipknot, korn, manson. I like ot listen to hard metal, it gets the gears goin and I get really into it. at the moment im at the desk and ive got some older atreyu on. -
ooooh cant wait to see it!

U have been searching endlessley for a turbo or 2, for a project and have come up with nothing. if you want to make a deal, please pm me. thanks Mike

well today was my day off from work, so I decided to make it a productive one. I had some MDF board sitting in the garage, that I was gonna make a sub enclosure for, but decided to make a spray booth instead. I still need a bigger fan, Ill have t go to the recycle store tomoro and buy a bathroom vent fan or something., and a filter of some sorts. but heres what ive got so far. its 26 wide x 16 deep x 17.5 tall. I still need to get a piece of plexiglass cut so I can hinge it on the front. lmk what yall think. anything I could to to improve? lets see your spray booths

here is my 66 nova that ive had on the table for quite some time. I wanted to use pegasus Ts in 19inch; but the rear wheel wells were about 2.3mm too small to fit them, so I cut them out and moved them in roughtly 4mm, thus creating a mini tub, then I decided to cut out the trunk. the trunk floor was filled, and smoothed , and a wall was created using sheet styrine. I chose a dash from a 57 ford fairline, as the factory dash was rather boring. I shaved it all, ground out the center for a cd deck, and drilled the guages, which still need to be cleaned up. for the interior, the stock seats were rather badly cast, so I kitbashed seats from a Fast & furious supra, and a read seat from an amt 70 monte carlo, which was cut to the right size and pieced back together. for the driveline, the setup im using is a 327/powerglide, with a 6 dueces setup. wiring/plumbing is still in the works. I also have LOTS more goodies for it, such as brakes/steering wheel/column, sunpro tach, etc. etc.

looks great so far, I quite like the choice of wheels also. if you dont mind my asking, how did you so cleanly remove the "spoked center" to place it further back? I quite like that idea.

it would be alot of work, but it would def. pay off. if you are ok with me working with your idea, mabey later on in the year I will try to unchop one, I was kinda kicking the idea around of doing a custom with that casting anyway, dunno if it will ever happen, but if i have some spare time, I wouldnt mind giving it a go, and mabey having another member cast us a few in resin. thx, Mike

hmm, my other hobby is working with hot wheels, I build all sorts of custom stuff. it can be done, but it will be a huge pain in the butt. Jb weld, marine epoxy (<moldable/shapable) files, spot putty, etc will be your friend. youll need some sheet /strip styrine to build up the pillars, what would work even better is if you had 2 of the same casting , then you could join roof pillars so that door lines, etc. will line up. shoot me som pictures speedbird_tbird@hotmail.com, and Ill take a look at it. to cut the metal , I usualy use a diamond wheel in my dremel, most die cast companies use a metal refered to as ZAMAC, its a compoud zink, aluminum, magnesium and copper. it will get hot with a dremel cutting wheel, but the metal will not melt until very hot temperatures (758 degrees). good luck with this project. check out www.joesdiecastshack.com and look on the message boards for the customs section, there are lots of great customizers that will help you out.

I saw a post aout the kustom kolors from walmart, but i am wondering how to thin REAL house of kolor paint, I thought of getting some HOK reducer, or intercoat clear which could also be used to thin it, but I dont wanna pay a hazmat charge to have it shipped to canada, and i wanna do it tonight. ive tried 2 thinners from walmart laquer thinners, and both made the paint all gummy. plmk thanks, mike
