  1. Got a box from HobbyEasy in Hong Kong today with some goodies. HD Mustang GT4 Detail Up HD Detail Up for the Hasegawa R32s Studio27 Senna XP Decals (they'll be doing the 3rd XP "livery" at the end of the month.) Studio27 C/F for the Senna And the cut the grass, new Alpha Models FK8 Honda Civic Type-R. This one happens to be done in LHD too.
  2. I think they bit off way more than they thought. The idea was to run the GT3 and RSR off the same tool, but the RSR is GTE Spec and Boaty McBoatface compared to the GT3 platform. So the decision was made to do two separate kits, but then BOTH the RSR and GT3 platforms have been updated (the GT3 twice) and I'm not sure there exists an engineering way to design the kit to be able to replicate those changes without having to do substantial retooling for each. It leaves them in a position where the cars are somewhat pigeonholed into certain years of application. The general vibe I've gathered is they don't think there's enough interest to support a "past" version of a car that's currently being used. The Audi R8 project was pushed through because it was tooled in a way that allows them to tweak it into the current 2018+ Evo Spec cars this Fall. Frankly Tamiya could very easily update the AMG to Evo Spec as well... Things like the Audi A4 and Volvo S40 are from the 90s, all the versions exist so tooling is fixed and it fits into the concept that retro racing is popular with their customers. If you want to see the 911s done, best thing to do would be badger them (politely) on their social media, they have a Twitter, IG, and FB page. Paying customers are a bigger influence to them than any of us "Insiders" ?
  3. Ahahahhahahaha.....no
  4. You did a very nice job on this build! Gotta give Tamiya a little slack this was tooled up back in 1986, and was their first ever full detail kit. ?

  6. Like this? Round2 reissued it in 2017.
  7. It's the same kit as the General Lee, just de-Dukes'd after the show was pulled off the air.
  8. Late last year we all came to the conclusion that Round2 is doing some sort of limited run thing in conjunction with Ollie's based on the manufacturing runs for the release of a kit vs. the ones that Ollie's is getting. So a kit being there doesn't necessarily mean it's a wholesaling issue anymore. I'd expect it's just a limited quantity reissue of the last run of the kit, which unless I'm missing a reissue was last run in 2011 prior to showing up at Ollie's last year...At least that's the year my kit's run date shows.
  9. Well with that new LWB 1 ton frame I'd hate to get carried away... After all there's no end to speculating what could get dumped on us in the end.
  10. I believe the last reissue prior to this Winter was back in the early 2000s, so yeah they were "rare" and overpriced on eBay for sure.
  11. This right here. It won't break your wallet, it flips up overall, the lens can flip up independent of the whole head piece, you don't lose your peripheral vision, it has a bright LED light. Perhaps most importantly it's made by an optical company and all of the lens sets are optically cut. A lot of the cheap fly by night versions are all wavy and distorted, and the LED light isn't removable like it is on the real one. https://www.amazon.com/Carson-MagniVisor-Head-Worn-Magnifier-CP-60/dp/B007CDJKM2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?adgrpid=56119624276&dchild=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgeTZ_tPP8AIVCuXICh3LdQrgEAAYASAAEgIkpfD_BwE&hvadid=274897265968&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9006048&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=5071021363992601560&hvtargid=kwd-309915948435&hydadcr=12127_9563122&keywords=carson+optical+pro+series+magnivisor&qid=1621218089&sr=8-1
  12. I could be totally off, but isn't the Airfix kit and the MPC kit the same thing? They're both from 1968-69, and I know they're branded the appropriate scales for their sides of the Atlantic, but those look to be the same wire wheels (which are only found on the Bond cars) that are on the MPC box art. There are only 2 "Convertible" 2000GTs in existence, both made for the James Bond film, and they're in fact de-roof'd cars with tonneau covers over the cuts to simulate the stowed convertible tops, but they don't have tops at all. Famously Toyota wanted to make them targa style to keep the back half of the roofline, but Sean Connery's head stuck out above the roof line, so they decapitated them entirely.
  13. I think its under $70 at HLJ, which is my preferred self-importer of choice. But Hobby Search is better for showing here since they have images of the instruction sheets. I know it's always a gamble for UK/EU guys to order direct with shipping and any potential customs attacks. ?
  14. Coming in July https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10774281
  15. Glancing at the vendor list, if you live out West, or are Vax'd up and don't mind flying it looks like all 4 of the current 5 U.S. kit manufacturers (along with Tamiya USA) will be there. Atlantis, Pegasus, Revell & Salvinos JR are a listed as having tables in the Vendor Room. If you ever wanted to chat with the people who make decisions all in one venue this would be a chance to do that. Just a little bit more than 3 months left as of today.
  16. I haven't heard anything about that kit either in almost a decade, I imagine it was a licensing debacle. As far as Scalemates the "Unknown" just means there's no history information provided by whomever entered the kit into the database. When editing the site, there are several choices under the drop down menu labeled "Origin" - Initial Release -New Tool, Rebox (Updated/Changed Parts), Rebox (New Decals), Rebox (Changed Boxart), Rebox (Unknown What Changed), Rebox (Model Set), and Unknown.
  17. When I mentioned in another thread that there was a heavily modified reissue coming that wasn't speakable yet...this would be it. There is in fact an extended driveshaft and extended exhaust in the tooling. When this is going to be released it will come with a cab and all the rest of the parts to build a complete F-Series based ramp truck something kinda like this...
  18. If you want a full detail 2000GT, you can always buy the High Detail one that Hasegawa made that comes with a bunch of white metal, P/E, and resin to put an engine bay into the curbside and then install the white metal engine. They just reissued that boxing a few months ago. Toyota 2000GT `Super Detail` (Model Car) - HobbySearch Model Car Kit Store (1999.co.jp)
  19. Scrolling through various social media outlets, Aoshima says it should go up for pre-orders in June. No actual release date was attached, but that'd make me think August or September.
  20. This one represents a '69/'70 2000GT. The car got a light face-lift in the front and rear fascia in terms of light sizing and spacing and a few tweaks to the interior to modernise it. There's never been a kit before that replicates those "late model" cars.
  21. Alright I'm not trying to pick a fight with you personally, but this reply crystalized several things I've read here, so you get the quoted reply. Look this is a diverse hobby, not everyone is in it for the same reason. The implication repeated here that the OP is just lazy (I mean sure the thread lacks tact, and smacks of trolling to troll) is annoying. Just because some of you want to engage in hand to hand combat with these older kits - and look I've plenty of them too on subject matter that doesn't exist elsewise - doesn't mean the OP does, or Bob does, or Fred does, etc. Projecting one's personal opinions on others is the double-edged sword of social media. He said it's a lousy kit, that's his opinion, and that's where this could have died and sunk to the bottom of the pages. If y'all wanted to discuss the pros, cons, and pining for the fjords over the original kits, then a separate thread could have been started in Kit Reviews and proven informative without all the continuing subtle shots at the OP. People who are fledgling (or returning) modelers need good kits, that have good engineering, and yes - can be thrown together like a puzzle. Because nothing is more discouraging to a new person (no matter what the endeavor), than to be cast into the deep end of something with nobody guiding them and them lacking the experience to tackle the project at hand. This idea that you start with hard stuff "because it's worth taking on" or "it improves your skills" is utter nonsense. You know what builds your skills as a modeler? Building models! You know what people who get kits that are either not what they expected, or exceed their skills do? They don't build, develop a negative opinion of an entire company's product line, or quit altogether. People can put exactly the same amount of time, effort and passion into a model that doesn't need hours of "fixing" to get it to a buildable state, than some of you guys can battling and winning over that older tooling. I subscribe to the "Bucket of Cares" (language adjusted for family friendliness) theory that states that any modeling project you start has a defined amount of caring you bring into it. The more the build goes sideways due to tooling, fit, engineering, along with all the associated Murphy's Laws of Modeling that happen you rapidly deplete the bucket. Eventually your bucket is empty, and you shelve the model unfinished. It happens to everyone, that's why every single member of this forum with any sort of stash of kits also has a SHELF OF DOOOOOOOM. People join this forum returning to the hobby everyday, and instead of place of guidance from their peers, it's a lot of "Old Man Yells at Perceived Insult". Y'all need to be recommending GOOD kits first, and then offering up these older kits as a "OK now you have some experience, want to tackle making a '57 Chevy Gasser? Cause this Pepper Shaker is the way to go..."
  22. With this, the LB Aventador and the "late model" Toyota 2000GT all breaking cover at the show today it gives me hope that Aoshima might actually be coming out of their self-imposed slumber in time for their 60th Anniversary.
  23. They cancelled back in the late Winter. The problem a lot of clubs have been running into isn't so much the Restrictions as it was venues weren't willing to take any bookings until they knew for sure they could actually hold the events - after all they spent a lot of 2020 refunding deposits Nationwide. They could probably actually hold the show in June as it stands now, but there's not time to rebook the venue and get the word out to make the event feasible. Our club's show in March was down to the wire yes/no when they decided to turn the venue into a vaccination site, and we didn't know for sure-for sure we were a go until the Wednesday before the show.
