"40 Ford P/U gasser
Smart-Resins replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What style are you actually trying to nail as far as class goes. That if you want to be some what correct in the build could help determine this! Personally, I would probably keep the fenders the way they are as they help show what the truck is. For the bed, I like altereds, so saying that I like the notion of moving the fenders forward slightly, then whack of twice that amount in the bed length. Also to help with the idea, do a engine set back. These were some of the things the guys did for show as it would help wieght transfer to the rear wheels for traction, but also would allow ubber cool wheelies. Like as you have in the pic of the willys. But, that is a lot of work shortening the frame, changing motor mounts, fitting the fenders, removing bed details maybe for proper fit, wacking the bed working on the firewall etc. So ask yerself, do you feel lucky today? Oops, sorry. That was a Clint Eastwood moment. LOL. -
Im a member there and belong to the modeling group. But I dont get into the 1:1 discussions hardly ever unless I find something cool through a google search. LOL. Nail heads are nice! Some of the Olds Rocket motors are cool! Actually depending on the hemi and the valve covers, some are nice. But most seem to go with a 80's style built hemi. Big blower etc. I like a nice classic well dressed hemi with log manifold or tri carbs with stacks! Ever see a hemi with a potvin blowet with tri carbs on it? Pretty cool looking anyways I thought. Dare to be different in a traditional way? Does that exhist? ROFLMBO!

Alright, I love this! That is with exception. I personally dont think the green on the rims and motor POP. But overall style AND the color do POP. Nice build. Keep going! Dont stop now!

This is sad!! Yes, I said sad! I was hopeing maybe it would go the other way Like Ed suggested! LOL. No, really I agree with you! Though I will admit 60's cheby and poncho motors are cool, as well as the caddy mills and the Lincoln V-12's. Flat heads, dont get me wrong are nice, but you see them way too much! I love to dare to be different! LOL.

This is very interesting! -
I can see pictures, but the model is very fuzzy. I would love to see headers made from pears!! Never seen that done before!

This is a fine model indeed. Very cool looking! I love it. -
Thank you very much! I wanted a more realistic looking piece. I got tired of trying to sand out flashing and ending up with something mis shaped. I do not have many tools so I needed to come up with a simple idea!

Sorry, forgot my preferrences has been changed on the forum. LOL. Sorry. Here it is copied over from there. Alright, I have a couple of projects where I want high performance style mufflers. So while in the city today, I picked me up some aluminum to go with my brass. To do this, you will need a small ruler like a engineers 6" ruler, a small flat file, a round one, optional, a methos of cutting the metal tubes. I have a small miter saw from Ebay($35). Also, something to glue them together like epoxy or superglue. I am using 1/8" brass tubing and 3/32" aluminum tubing. These equate to a scale 2 3/8" exhaust pipe and a 3 1/8" muffler. For better realism, you could use alminum tubing for both and polish. You could also use styrene if you plan on painting them! Here, I cut the brass to 1/2" or a scale 12" length and the aluminum tubing to 5/8" or a scale 16". Then use your file to smooth the ends up and to round the ends of the brass piece so that it will blend down into the pipe so when you glue it, it looks like a welded piece. Now slide the brass over the aluminum tubing and glue. Make sure to leave 1/16" of aluminum showing on both ends, or a scale 2" length for clamping the rest of your exhaust system together. Thank you! Jody

Thank you very much. Am changuing out the back wheels for something slighly more traditional. Power will come from a poncho with hilborns. Color will be Testors one coat lime ice and white accents and iinterior. Think I have finished finding most all parts. Will try for a slightly custom theme to it. Still looking for my dang knife. I wish I knew wich box I packed it in because it certainly is not with everything else. Only thing keeping me from starting and right now I cant go anywheres as I need to save up for a new water pump and belt for my van. So I be waiting!
