  1. Ken Miles car 15 Dave MacDonald car 16 Ken won and Dave finished second photo is from 1964 race at augusta.
  2. Jake Van Slatt is pretty much the best source for steampunk. He is amazing and his work is considered the top of the mill for what steam punk should be.
  3. Just let the crazies fly there cars into the wall. I have seen some really interesting bracket racing. Rarely does the fastest car win. and to keep the fast guys honest put a little hump in the middle of the track once they lose a couple races they will tone it back. Sadly the 1/24 and 1/32 club and track I used to race at had a bunch of cheaters so I have learned how to weed them out. Foam from a pillow will allow you to move the end track section further back while still maintaining a enough cushion to stop the cars from getting damaged. Sorry to keep bugging you with stuff but slot cars are more of a passion than model building. I am to far away from a club or anything and my current living situation doesn't allow me to set up my track.
  4. Nobody said a kid should build one of these or even use one by themselves. Kids shouldn't be allowed to use any sort of spray paints without proper ventilation and safety gear at all. I also agree that a kid shouldn't build anything electrical but what does that have to do with a modeler building a spray booth? I just looked up sealed fan units at the local hardware store and they run 13-20 bucks. Granted to get proper airflow you would need more than one but they still make the booth hundreds of dollars cheaper than a commercial one. Honestly it's sad that you had to post a disclaimer just to post a video.
  5. The owners of Nascar are just mad that AMLS style racing has gained in popularity while Nascar has gone down. Remember who owns and runs ALMS the the same ownership team as nascar. This was talked about last year on a slot car forum. The less tv competition Nascar has the more will watch Nascar. Its just Nascar blocking ALMS like they tried to do when they first bought it. They tried to kill it off but the rules changes made for better racing. Everyone thought the DP class would be the death kneel for ALMS and all it did was make it better. Now Nascar is back tracking and trying to stifle ALMS from being televised. I am sure this move had nothing to do with the fact that 3 of the Speed televised ALMS races last year got more viewers than 75% of the Nascar races on the same channel. Nope Speed just drops high viewership programming because they don't want to be watched.
  6. I thought the same thing when I saw the pics it's either some sort of school project or some sort of movie car. It looks like it might have had bigger wings at some point and they were cut off. That is one of those cars that I would stop and ask about.
  7. People have been building these for years. My step dad is a electrician also and he has helped me build them in the past. If you build it correctly there is no more of a chance for it to catch fire than for your house to catch fire. It's all plugging wires in. The sealed motor vs. exposed posses little risk to anything. The only thing I have ever seen happen is the exposed motors will get gummed up with paint and stop working if not properly filtered. Per what you are saying nobody should use computers because they use the same connections and fans. I build computers for friends and I have been taught some electrical work by my step dad. Also nothing in either of the two videos were hard wired I am not sure what you are talking about.
  8. It surprises me that no link exists from MCM to it. Many board users don't even know about it. I think just a link from here would probably add a few new buyers and sellers.
  9. I used to build spay booths out of cardboard and would use computer case fans. Nothing beats 2 100 CFM fans and I would use a metal filter used on range hoods with a piece of foam filter material behind that. Two computer case LED lights in the top corners of the box provided lights and it worked great but like the guy said cardboard doesn't last long but when it costs you less than 5 bucks to put together it is cost effective. It was a little loud by computer case standards at 50 Db but it moved a ton of air A RC track and shop I worked at in Indianapolis custom built a spray booth using 12 50 CFM fans with a furnace filter. The entire back wall was fans and it blew directly out a window. Anyone who wants a spray booth and builds model cars can easily make your own. The little bit of electronics is a bit daunting when you first look at it but in reality it's pretty easy.
  10. Just wanted to let you know that I think your 13' of track is pretty close to 1/8th mile. I didn't know if you did the calculation yourself yet or not. Rounded 15' and an inch or so is right at 1/8th mile. So if you can cram in another section or two of straight you should be able to get there. If you want to get really ambitious you could go for the full 1/2 mile track but I doubt you have 30 clear feet anywhere in your house, lol. Also let your son bring some of his friends over and play with it. They will bring their dads, who will then buy their own cars, and before you know it you will wind up having a whole drag club.
  11. is it a Briliance concept or way out on a limb a BYD concept? Sorry for the two guesses but they are both so far out there I figured it would be ok.
  12. I think it is good for him building is quiet time for both of us, I have some issues to and I can't build with outside noise going on. I did do a snap together kit with him over Thanksgiving weekend but because of his aversion to glue it's hard to build a car with him. He doesn't even like seeing the glue bottles. he likes helping me with the pieces and he will study everything I do. I really want to get two of the same kits so we can build at the same time on the same steps. What he really likes the local race track I take him a couple times a year and for a kid who hates loud noise and crowds he will sit almost the entire time without fighting. He likes the pit area the most though and since I know a bunch of the racers he gets a lot of attention and gets in the cars. A driver friend of mine even talked the track officials into leting me take him around the track for a couple laps. He got to steer while I did the brake and accelerator. I had never seen him smile and laugh so much.
  13. I completely understand. My nephew lived with me for almost a full year. He is ok outside so long as he is on concrete or gravel he hates sand and anything soft my sister says he is ok in the snow till he gets some on his face. So far he as only walked off once to follow a dog walker but the doctors say it gets more common as they get older. The nurse was really surprised he was able to sit down and put together everything in one go usually he gets really antsy if he is in a chair for more than a few minutes.
  14. The thread was locked because the owners of this forum didn't like that people were bad mouthing another forum. They shut down threads about SA too. They were being very respectful to you and your site in doing that. The original poster might have been a thorn in your side but honestly it's a website ban him and move on. If he acts the same way here as he did on your site he will get banned here too. Also you don't like the bad mouthing your forum got here. Well It took me less than 30 seconds to find several derogatory posts on your site about MCM so lets just leave that alone.
  15. A guy at the local flea market buys the $15 DOH reissues from Hobby Lobby and resells them for $35. I always laugh when I pass his booth. The sad part is even though the kits are brand new people still buy them for that money.
  16. I had been working on a garage diorama with my autistic nephew made out of double-sided tape and popsicle sticks (he doesn't like texture of glue) but a few weeks ago he got upset when my roommate dropped a pan in the kitchen and he smashed it. Today he came over and brought me a diorama he made at home with his mom and the nurse/counselors help. The two guys names are Chuck (in hat) and Pedro (doesn't own a belt) I don't know where he got the names but that's what he named them. The address on the sign is actually the address for the flea market where my girlfriend and I sell some of her crafts and I sell some junk model stuff. The address was his moms idea thinking it would be neat if I take it to the flea market to show off. The sign post is an upside down front fork from a broken motorcycle, the wheel is hard to see but it is free spinning. The figures and ramps came from his toy box and the truck is one of mine out of the junk bin because he got upset about leaving his blue truck here with me. I added the for sale sign. He also brought over a bucket of popsicle sticks so we can start another garage diorama when he comes over again. I know it isn't much but it is the first ever thing of his that he as left with me without him getting upset about leaving it. I just thought I would share.
  17. Looks like an awesome sleeper car. I wouldn't want to pull up next to that at a light. Great paint and finish.
  18. I was wondering the same thing. It looks like they won't fit without doing that though.
  19. Anyone starting anything yet?
  20. Looks great.
  21. Those look really cool. Just added them to my want list.
  22. The diorama looks awesome. I live just a few miles from a drive in who's name just so happens to be Skyview.
  23. awesome post up more when they are done.
  24. It surprises me Dakar vehicles are not kitted. If you are into 1/32 though you can get lots of them as slot cars and scratch build.
