How many here build "Multiples " of a model ?
ra7c7er replied to Eshaver's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't really do multiples and I can't afford kits at their current prices. I have yet to buy once single kit at retail price. Everything I have has come from either craigslist, given to me, or flea markets. The only kits I wouldn't mind doing more than one of are BMW kits since those are my favorite cars. -
They all look awesome. Is the bed on the HD trailer real wood or just an amazing paint and detail job?

Paint and everything looks amazing.

What did you get for Christmas?
ra7c7er replied to Railfreak78's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Considering that both my girlfriend and i can barely keep the roof over our heads and on christmas eve the repo people finally came and got my car. I wasn't expecting much in the way of christmas but my girl got me the AMT Chevy Titan 90. Also I have to say thank you to the repo guy who drive 172 miles round trip on Christmas morning to bring back the gift I got for my girlfriend. It was in my trunk when they took the car and I didn't even think about it till she gave me my present. Bringing that gift back really made a depressing time of year for me a little brighter. -

Thanks everyone. I am glad to see I wasn't very far off from what others have been doing. -

I hardly ever use all of the decals from a sheet and I was wondering the best way to store the leftover decals for long term storage. I want to keep them separated by model so I have been putting the left over decals in craft baggies and labeling them. I was recently told however that the decals could react to the plastic and become useless. I don't want to just throw them all in one box mixed together. How should I store them?

Out of a full time job for over 2 years now. Not even Walmart was really hiring for Christmas. I haven't worked more than 15 hours in a week in almost a year. It is killing me.

I think the problem is that emodelcars doesn't have much of a search engine presence so very very few people outside of those that know about it find it. I advertise it on my site but my site does not have anything to do with model cars so I doubt that helps. Some spaming onto places like Craigslist and yahoo groups related to model building would bring in some new people along with spreading the word on smaller forum sites and club sites. It's a big never ending circle and it goes like this. more sales bring more sellers more sellers bring more products more products bring more buyers more buyers bring more money more money brings more sales and repeat hopefully over and over and over. The low web presence of all the "e" sales sites is really what hurts most of them. I am on a slot car auction and sales site nearly the exact same as emodelcars and they have the same problem. It's all about getting the word out and honestly I wouldn't even mind a advert on the forum for it. I bet even though the people that run this site run emodelcars that half the people here don't know what emodelcars is.

Who else uses this instead of glue?

Those displays are amazing. I think I just found a new project. -
Are you a "scale snob?"
ra7c7er replied to ian ashton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I build both 1/24 and 1/25 scale. I don't mid putting them together on dioramas either. -
I don't have a scanner but my girlfriend thinks they might have a scanner at her work. She said she would check tomorrow.

Who else uses this instead of glue?
ra7c7er replied to Groucho's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sounds pretty similar to Plastruct weld solvent. I used that all the time on my slot cars. Not so much on my model kits though. -
Sunday I picked up a Revell BMW 635csi (original 1981 release) still sealed and in mint condition. I paid a bit more than I wanted to for it but BMWs are my favorite cars and they are hard to find in model kits. You should have been there to see the dealers jaw drop when I ripped that plastic off right in front of his booth. I can't wait to build it but I have to clear a couple other projects out of the way first.

Nürburgring is my all time favorite track in the world. Nürburgring is the deadliest race track in the world to date but you have to account for non-racing deaths also. Every year between 6 to 12 "drivers" die on the track. Everyday the track is open to the public for laps. For those of you that watch Top Gear when Jeremy took that Diesel car there and tried to set that under 10 minute time. The motorcyclist that crashed, and Jeremy made the can I have your spleen joke about, actually died in the hospital. One of the odd things is that when you account for all the laps run on the track it is one of the safest race tracks in the world. A bit of trivia for you guys on a normal weekend day at Nürburgring more laps are done than in an entire year at Daytona (both oval and road course including testing and amateur events).

I was going to say the same thing, lol. Car looks nice the details with the tape on the front and the tires are awesome and really add a lot of detail.

Why do you think they pay someone else to do it? I don't know anyone that pays someone else to paint their cars. Most I have ever seen is a friend doing some painting because a guy broke his hand. I see some incredible model paint jobs but I would never say someone else must have done it. ----- You see a lot of insane paint jobs on drag slot cars but not so much on track cars. I raced slot cars for about 6 years in local clubs and on a regional level and I never spent more than about 30 minutes painting a body. Sometimes guys will go all out on them but they are generally just looking to win concourse stuff. Track racers know their stuff would get destroyed eventually so most don't really spend the time to go crazy on a competition car's paint job. Some racers will use lots of futures floor wax/polish stuff as a clear coat and that protects a lot but it is very heavy in the wrong places when you put it on thick so most racers above the club level won't use it. It's different though for home use I had about 10 custom painted cars I used on the track I had at home but they were never going fast enough to do any more damage that maybe a scratch or scuffing and whats a race car without some scuff marks. I think you are probably referring to the cars in the posts by chris4q and Sixx. chris4q builds incredible models for a collector overseas very very few if any of those cars get run at all they are shelf cars that might get run just long enough to make sure they work. Sixx'es bodies are drag cars and they don't generally see any damage unless some sort of extremely rare catastrophic incident happens. Drag cars when they come out of the slot 99 times out of 100 will come out right after the start so the cars is hardly moving.

Good idea, might get more response though if you post this in the community builds section. All you have to do to start one is post in the community builds section and post up what rules you want the builds to follow people will join if they like the subject. Just check through the community builds section and you will see how others have done it.
