  1. Have you thought about using fiber optic lighting? it's small and you can store the light source can be small considering you can conceal a led bulb just about anywhere. And a 9 volt battery will power a led for a while before draining. You could also try the LED lighting that people use for RC airplanes.
  2. I don't have any pics but my to build stash is currently sitting at 73 with two in progress. 73 kits might not be considered very many but considering I only restarted the hobby on July 18th last year (yes exactly 6 months to the day) that means I have accumulated one kit every 2.5 days.
  3. No one wants to pay a decent price anywhere. I just got back from a toy and model show in my area where dealers were selling sealed kits for 2.50 just to try and move product. Granted these dealers are the estate buyers and flea market finder types but still with AM model market so bad you got to take what you can get and don't list anything you don't really want to get rid of.
  4. First thing I would do is figure out what wheel brands were available at that time. Many wheel designs are iconic to brands so the same wheel you could buy today in a store is the same wheel they could have been selling for 40 or 50 years. Once you have that list I think is all about finding old dealer brochures and calling places. Old mags are right on the money for finding out what would have been available. Craigslist can usually net some old magazines but people might want some money for them.
  5. Everyone, Thank you for all the supportive comments. My sister and my nephew came over yesterday for a few hours and they both were thrilled with all the comments received. My sister even broke down at a forum users offer. My nephew and I have started on a new garage together and when he stays over Friday I hope to have enough of it done to post a WIP in the Diorama section. Thank you everyone for your comments and thoughts. Rob
  6. I have two cats here one is old and just sits in whatever box I have open at the time. Whats fun is when she just randomly jumps in a box with something in it and she freaks out. The other cat ,only about 3, will try to get in my lap, or sit on my desk, or play with parts, or play incubator to small parts I have laid out, or a huge list of things that annoy my models. He makes a good weight but he is long haired and it insane trying to get a nice paint job with him in the room. I have resorted to going out into the shed, 6x4 to do my painting.
  7. I agree but the only way to get more traffic is to advertise the site. e-sales sites are not promoted very well by search engines because ebay keeps them buried. The best way for people to find emodelcars is for modelers to pass the word around at clubs and other forum sites. --- Just since route66modeler posted his challenge The number of listings has jumped up 50 listings and over 30 people have joined. So like it or not it worked at least in the short term. Every modeler has kits they know they will probably never build I only have 29 kits and I already know I have kits that will be sitting around a long time. I don't even know what you guys with hundreds of kits do.
  8. This is really cool. I want to build a small diorama of the local race track here in 1/24th I won't be able to do the entire race track but I am thinking about doing the front stretch and turns 3 and 4. Keep us updated on your tracks developments.
  9. Looks awesome. I like the colors all around.
  10. Honestly, I almost did the exact same thing.
  11. I recognize some of them but some in the back row I have never seen are they custom?
  12. ebay is good for something. Nice find.
  13. Nope. I would think Mike will leave a hint tonight when get gets online. Good guess though that car is insane looking.
  14. That's insane. How do you get all that detail when you are making something so small?
  15. El Destructo Inc usually is on later in the day and since I already know the answer I will tell you it is not a Ferrari. The styling and red color can throw you off though.
  16. As soon as I get my paypal account working correctly, paypal freaked out when my bank merged, I will be on there. I have enough trouble trying to get people complete trades I don't really want to be waiting for money orders. I have about 15 kits I would like to sell or trade off not to mention about 17 parts cars worth of parts I would like to see gone.
  17. Really cool. Was it yours?
  18. Craigslist and flea markets are great for old ho stuff. Honestly so are estate sales. I used Craigslist once to find a old junk ping pong table to put a track on and the lady asked me what it was for when I told her she said hold on and came back with no joke 9 boxes of track from the 60s and about a hundred chassis and more bodies than I ever cared to count. I asked her how much more it would cost and she told me to just take it all. I bought a 10 dollar ping pong table and got about $1,500 in slot car stuff. Sometimes you just get lucky.
  19. Must have been a pretty dull car show for that to win. I see stuff like that happen all the time though.
  20. Ok thanks. It's your turn to post up a pic.
  21. You got it. I was going to blank out the grill because I thought it was to much of a dead giveaway. The information I have on the car is that it is Kenny Irwin Jr's car. Can you tell me where you got the information for it being Foyts? This car is for sale and a friend of mine that races SCCA is thinking about buying it if there is misinformation about the car I want him to know.
  22. Most of the time I think people are honest about others doing the work. It's the few people that are not that bug me. You have the money they have the talent very rarely does anyone have both.
  23. I was seriously reading a Shelby book and about three minutes before I read the post I saw that picture. Ok another race car for you guys it's fairly easy to guess so If want to try guessing the driver you can. He was fairly well known.
  24. I saw that it can have a return lane but from the two people I talked to they never come any more than half way back and they run a 20 ft track What they did was wire up the return track with two AA batteries so they could flip a switch and the cars would come the rest of the way back automatically. 1/24 is expensive I got lucky and made friends with an old guy that was leaving the hobby so I got a bunch of stuff cheap to start and from there I would trade away to get newer stuff. I never was very good at the drag racing my best finish was quarter finals but drag racing is fun when nobody is cheating. That's why I like bracket racing so much it doesn't matter if you are cheating or not. as for the track racing that was a blast I didn't care where I finished just being there was fun. 1/32 scale was probably my favorite in that. You might want to try craigslist for slot car track you would be surprised what people will pull out of there attic for a few bucks you might even be able to get some cars and things too.
  25. Local shops will probably have the info. If you are looking for a place to buy older models you can try toy shows too. Many of those put up posts on craigslist.
