F150 2wd Shortbox
JustBill replied to JustBill's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
LOL! You got that right about those moldings! And yes, those badges are LOUD AND CLEAR! Even after primer. They will hold up to the painting too. I'm gona BMF them before color coat. Here's a pic of the kit Sorry its so small, pulled it off google. -
I have found that the cardboard from cereal boxes is just the right thing to use as a squeegee.! I've struggled with applying putty for body work. The putty always seems to go on too thick. I'm not a fan of sanding. The cardboard is thick enough that it won't bend when you apply pressure to get the putty thin. The cardboard is also thin enough that you can bend it around curves. You can also cut different shapes if need be. I also use big sections of it to mix putties and epoxies. Just a little something I stumbled across and thought I'd contribute. Happy modeling!

1990 F150 4x4 WIP
JustBill replied to Kit Basher's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
When I said you inspired me I pulled the truck out last night!!! I started a thread to follow along to. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=45267 -
I was inspired by Basher on the 4wd build going on right now so last night I dug this out. Cleaned the body up. Sanded the moldings off the side and puttied. Sanded the rest of the body down with 600 grit to pre-pair for primer. Will sand the putty and prime tomorrow. Gona be a pretty straight forward build. I bought a die-cast open tandem trailer that needs something to pull it! Thanks for looking.

How To Make Opening & Functional Doors, Hoods, and Trunks
JustBill replied to nwmud's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Just regular sewing thread you would use to sew on buttons or repair clothing with. You can find it just about anywhere. I usually buy a sewing kit. Comes with lots of thread and some needles and such. Like I said its very time consuming and can be tricky as stated above trying to hold everything. I use a little vise to hold my project in while doing this. Just make a little slice in the door jamb and insert the thread through it. Then work the thread back and forth. This method also works good for suspension parts if you want to separate them. Maybe not the best method, I just like that it removes very little plastic. -

You can also use sewing thread. Its very time consuming and you'll go through a lot of thread doing it this way, but its a very clean cut. Also it doesn't remove as much plastic as the knife will so that means a tighter fit when the door is closed. -
Looking good Bob. Can't wait to see this in person. Did you work on this yesterday? I stopped in and you were off.

Was hoping someone would be able to help direct me in a direction. I was spending time with my grandfather this weekend who is pushing late eighties. We were looking through some old photos and there was one were he was waxing his new 78 Bonneville. So i was thinking as left for home I would like to build him one. So my question is have there ever been a kit produced or a resin body/conversion for this car? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! He's always been a car guy and loved to take car of his vehicles but as he gets older its harder for him to do so anymore. Before that he had a 74 LeManns which he traded for the Bonneville. If I can't get any where with the Bonneville is there anything available for the LeManns? Thanks again for any help!

For me its when I hit a road block. I'll be zinging along and then bam! Can't figure out how to fabricate or assemble something. or when I should have put this part on first before gluing that part on and its now what? Hitting a road block always takes me away from the bench for like a week. I'll go to work and think about it all day for a week and them..... WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I know what I'm gona do!! I always get that high when i sit back at the bench and get over that hump. Sets up for some great modeling!

Very cool! I'm a fan of any piece of machinery that puts in work. Great weathering on the radiator!!

Too cool Doc. You are truly a master. Question, I know your not done, Are the tires on the car now the ones your staying with? I only ask cause a car of such caliber should have some beefy threads for some off road booty smashing! Love the skull on the guns!

'99 Silverado Custom
JustBill replied to JustBill's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Plugging away at it. Trimmed the inner skins on the bed. Attached the sides. I have an idea of what I want to do with the rear just not sure how to execute it yet. Did some more work to the front and thinned out the inner fenders. Wheels sitting nice now. Chopped the top. Didn't have to make as many cuts to the roof as I thought. Its been a pretty smooth process so far. Next I'm gona focus on the rear suspension and get the air bag setup going so I can finalize the rear ride height and get the bed settled on the frame. Thanks for looking and more to come. -
Well, their you are. Glad to see you building. Interesting color. Will this be your first victim on display at work? Ohhhh You got boogies on your hood

Dr., While I think your work is phenomenal, and its hard to offer anything up as far as your work is concerned, after seeing the blood on the bottom of the car I don't believe the roller would be complete without some blood and hair! Love all you do for the hobby and your enthusiasm and you keep me building. Thank you!

'99 Silverado Custom
JustBill replied to JustBill's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Small update, this weekend has been busy and I didn't get as much done as I wanted but hey, thats life! Started working on the bed. Got the sides cut off and ready to go back on. Cut down the floor out of the bed and removed the inner sides to lower it. Started making new inner skins to smoothen everything out. -

I want to thank those of you who shared your advice, experience's, and builds. That finished truck looks beautiful BHarrison! Like the flame work! I see what you mean Tumbler75. In fact, I was able to trim and shape and trim and shape the wheels and lower A arms to get the wheels laid down better. Still a little camber but nothing like it was. LAone I am still going to thin the fenders and I believe that should take care of it. I do agree with what everyone has said referring to the 1:1 trucks having drastic camber. I don't believe my model will be sitting low enough for the camber to look right. Alot of those trucks are sitting on the ground when air bags are deflated. Anyway, like I said, I got the wheels to lay better. Will post pics in a couple days or so. Many years ago I had the original issue of this kit as a kid. This is the one kit I always kicked myself in the rear for getting rid of. Once I saw the re-issue I had to have it. This has always been my original idea with the kit so I'm having a blast with it so far. Always wanted to do these mods on this truck cause its newer and you don't see people doing these mods much anymore. Again thanks for everything. -
In fact, I'll be by tomorrow bro. Now get to work! Take a look at my '99 Silverado and tell me what the hell to do with this camber.

After seeing the model I'd like to see the 1:1 myself. Nice job on the fab work!
