  1. I'm calling this one "Forever Undecided"! Well... I finally decided. This is the Revell special edition '49 Mercury custom coupe. Its a wonderful kit and I will be getting a few more. I was at Carlisle two years ago. It was the beginning of the day. I saw this kit sitting sealed on one of the vender tables for ten bucks. I picked it up and looked it over and set it back down. I wasn't sure if I wanted it or not and then have to carry it around all day, plus I knew there were thousands of other kits available I still hadn't looked through yet. If you've never been to Carlisle they have hundreds of venders and thousands of models at good prices. I never leave empty handed. So I walked around the rest of the day thinking about this kit. On my way out the guy still had it so I bought it. I got it home and opened her up. This is a really nice kit with lots of details and options. I decided I was gona build a detailed version. Around the same time I was also into slot car racing. Guys I was racing with wanted to start a 1/25 league. So when I got home I saw this kit and decided to build a slot car out of it. I chopped away at the chassis and started installing a motor pod and such. Well the slot car thing never happened. So I packed it back into the box. My model room flooded over the summer and I haven't been doing any building. The withdraw got to me so I decided that I would take a kit on a make shift table and build a curb side. This kit came to mind knowing the chassis was all cut up. So here it is. Hod Rod Gray Primer with dull coat. Wheels are from my parts box.
  2. It had been a few months since I was able to build do to all this. I was withdrawing form styrene so bad I made a make shift table on the other side of the basement to build a curb side on. My modeling supplies are packed away with the construction going on but I got out the bare essentials just to feed the need to build. I'm working on a 49 Mercury and should have it done this weekend. Here it sits...
  3. Back in the summer we had a hurricane come up the east coast. After that went through it rained for a good solid week non stop. So much water that my waterproofing system installed in the basement couldn't keep up with discarding the rain water and we got flooded. My model room is in the basement. Luckily I didn't loose anything model wise from the water coming in the house. However I did have to go around 16inches up from the floor and cut out the dry wall and replace. Along with insulation and moldings. My daughters and My bed room is in the basement as well so I'm having to rebuild those rooms as well. When I went to remove the drywall I found mold growing and had to deal with that as well. Its been a process to say the least. So here's my room as it sits this morning....
  4. This looks nice Dominic. You did a very clean and classy job. I'd drive it!
  5. I'm not sure about this. It seems as though you need the "rim" and tire assembly. What does this mean for your hubs? or is it that they will make different styles for all cars maybe? This doesn't seen like an cheaper alternative either. Go ahead and scape a curb with that thing while parking and let me know how well that resin holds up!! This design is still going to give your car a more ridged ride. There is no substitute for a pneumatic tire IMO. As stated above forklifts use a solid tire. These tires would not hold up to auto use. The heat alone will cause tire failure. They fail from heat already on forklifts and forklifts only travel about 6mph. Cars travel much faster and generate more heat. Also too road surfaces are much more rugged than what you would find in a forklift atmosphere. But not all forklifts use solid tires. They can also have pneumatic tires. It does give the forklift a much better ride (as forklifts don't have suspension) but they also deal with flat tires. In the forklift industry they offer a slime filled as opposed to air filled for the pneumatic tire. Some folks use it but it is a very expensive alternative. Can't really compare forklifts to cars. Its apples and oranges. I do think that its not a total waist to find an alternative for tires. Tire are getting outrageous in price! I've been finding shops lately that sell good used tires. The treads and manufacture don't always match up but and the significantly less cost it doesn't bother me.
  6. LOL! Well Doc... you bring up a good point as well. So now now we're looking for time and speed!! How old is a 1/25 49 Merc? and How fast is 60mph in 1/25?
  7. I was wondering if the same applies for scale time. For instance, How old would a 49 Merc. be in 1/25 years?
  8. That's too cool!! Great job Emily! Those wheels are perfect for that car and tell your daddy to post the next model you build so we can all see!! That's awesome Wayne! I tried getting my two boys involved in building. But both of them slung paint everywhere and went off to do something else. They didn't have the patients to sit there. My seven year old daughter however, all she does is sits and does crafts. Coloring, painting, scrap booking, ect... I'm hoping she will come to me one day and want to build. Hopefully soon before she gets old enough to realize she wants nothing to do with me Enjoy these moments man!!
  9. Nice collection you have bro! I love dirt racing. I go watch the sprinters run every Saturday night! You can't beat that kind of racing action anywhere!!!
  10. Eric, I always enjoy your work. Nice and clean man!! Welcome back.
  11. I've got one complete as of now and hope to have my second one complete by no later than next week. Its been a slow to no building kind of year for me. Tough year, hard to find time.
  12. In the NASCAR section of the forum. I look forward to seeing those too!!
  13. Very nice collection you have going there. Great job on all of them! The 1970 429 is my favorite. You captured it well with the build and photo. I'm a big fan of the fox body too! Good stuff!! Good luck on your adventure to complete the class. Keep us posted so we can enjoy it with you.
  14. I do the same thing only wrap the cap with tape sticky side out. Same concept as what Don's stand is.
  15.    That's great!!! I almost spit up the water I was drinking!!!
  16. What do you say to that..... I got nothing... Sorry to go off topic on you Doc, I've been building for two days straight after about six months off. The fumes are beating me up a bit Its a fun topic though!
  17. I believe those particular front tires are made of Kevlar!
  18. That's why I never understood the the molded in valves in the heads of some engines. Unless the only reason is to give you the option of displaying the engine without valve covers!?!?
  19. I'm really enjoying your style and builds man! Great stuff.
  20. That's a nice ride you got yourself there! I absolutely love this kit. I had a blast building mine! Great job man. Any interior shots?
  21. Not me. I can't reason with wasting the time or paint to do so. I guess you could say I'm a logical thinker. Its not logical to me to paint areas not seen. If it happens to get painted that's not gona get seen so be it. Sometimes though I will paint a part completely if I'm not sure what will get seen once installed. As much fun and enthusiasm as you have though Virgil, I can totally see you sitting there in some trance and just going nuts painting everything in site!! HAHA!!
  22. I love how this is the ###### they come up with to save money. How much money do you think was spent to come up with/talk about this subject?? I do believe we all need to slow down anyway though. Life moves fast enough. No need to rush it!!
  23. That car is gorgeous! Totally mesmerizing!! Nice work on the photo. Its like I can almost reach into the screen and pick it up! I'll send you my pics from now on!! I know things in person are pretty much totally different then looking at pics. I just painted a car for a buddy and I had to reassure him the color was much darker in person then the progress pics I was sending him. It sucks we can't all see the actual models some of these guys build. It does however make it that much more enjoyable if we are fortunate enough to see them in person.
  24. There are some beautiful paint being splashed around in here!!! I have had an AB for a year now and am too scared to take the dive I guess. With the talk about safety.... where are you guys painting? Outside? In the cold? I see Virgil lives in FL which is nice just about all year round so painting outside wouldn't be a problem. Lonewolf however in PA, I know its cold up there!! For me in MD it gets cold and we have a lot of humidity throughout the warmer months. I've gotten pretty good at handling the spray cans regardless of outside conditions. I don't have an indoor paint booth and really don't want to put one in on account of safety reasons and I have three kids. Any thoughts or feedback?
  25. WOW!!! That's wicked! Great imagination and execution!!
