  1. I'll keep that in mind Chris. Maybe a more modern engine type of thing, I'm still undecided. I've been sanding my rear off to smooth this thing out. I was gona keep the side moldings that start on the hood and run down the side, but when you see the pic, the left side molding on the hood is washed out from a bad mold. Not a real crisp detail to it so I decided to scrap them. I'm thinking of replacing it with some half round and possibly a little different design but we'll see. Also sanded off the molded in door hinges as they would have gotten lost after paint. The top side of this thing needed a lot of smoothing. When you look at the pics check out the top half at the door. Big difference in the level of plastic. I'm just hoping after all that filing I won't get some crazy reflection thing in the paint. I've smoothed the interior tub all together cause I'm gona make my own interior using balsa wood. I've also started cutting out for the headlights. That's enough talking, I'll let the pics do the rest. If any questions or concerns I'm open!
  2. I'm gona hang my head and pretend I didn't see your question. Haha! I got away from building for awhile there. I got back to building pretty regularly again at the first of the year and had other inspirations take over. Its sitting over in the corner on my to do list. Every time I see a post from you it reminds me to build it. Haha.
  3. Its good to see you active again Kirk. This build is coming along nicely. It looks like those decals are putting a whopen on you! Haha! That Dupli-color turned out real nice. Good luck with the rest of the build bro.
  4. I thought I would add another build to the madness around here. I started this one last night with the intention of making a curbside out of it. However I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I'm doing the motor. I have a few small mods going on here, opened the rear quarters and plan on doing a frenched headlight thing. Also lowered it. Here's where I'm going with it. Comments or concerns are welcome. Sitting stock with my wheels of choice. This last pic shows the cap of the John Deere Green I'll be using. Also have the chrome being striped from the wheels now and will paint them body color.
  5. I dig it man. Its got a nice little attitude with it. Good job on those vents.
  6. Looks to me like he's trying to jump start the economy!
  7. I can't think of a better truck to stair at and memorize! Like I said, I have a '96, my neighbor has a '95, and my father has a '94. Mine is a extended cab with the short bed and a 5.8, Mark3 edition. My neighbor is regular cab and 8ft bed with 5.0 and 4wd. My father has extended cab, short bed, 4wd with straight six. I got all reference materials I can handle! Haha! I bought this kit with the intension of building my 1:1. That's going to be a lot of work so for now I built this one and kept it box stock-ish to learn the kit and know where I need to go with future builds.
  8. Haha! That story is too funny. Great imagination and execution though. How old is your granddaughter?
  9. Monty, I'm sorry man, I have no idea where those wheels came from. Sometimes at our model club meets I will see a set of wheels that look good and I'll pick them up for a "just in case" type of thing, so that could be very well where they may have come from. As far as those holes, Chris is right about the stops being there on the 1:1. I don't know what there trying to represent on the model. Haha! Another one of those things that could use some addressing on the next one. Thanks again guys!
  10. I like the effect you got with the paint. I know you said r/c paint, Was it from a spray can or did you airbrush it? And what did you use for clear coat?
  11. Thanks for all the comments and interest folks! Chris: The kit was good as far as fitment and assembly. Like I said earlier though, there's a few things that bug me about it. The way the bed mates with the cab makes the truck look like its bent in half. Someone brought to my attention while I was building it that the firewall needs to be moved back. The kit is just lacking some details in general. No floor shifter or column shifter. No rear view mirror. The alternator just looked like a blob of spur on a pulley. I'm not complaining just giving some things that came to my attention. I plan on doing several more of these trucks so these are some things that will get addressed. Also, while I black washed the headlight assemblies to show separation in the different parts it consisted of, I think the lines are too big and makes it look a little toyish. Something else I will focus on with my future builds. Hugh: I'm calling you responsible for this build! After watching your build it motivated me to build mine. As far as the mirrors, I striped the chrome all together. Then scribed the chrome cover area, painted the mirrors flat black and BMF for the chrome plate on the front. Thanks again folks! All in all I'm happy with the truck and proud to have it on my shelf.
  12. I was thinking along those same lines Bradley. Not so much of wheels but to use it to mask off parts of a chassis when detail painting. If you thin the glue a little you can work it in detail lines for separation of colors. I like your idea of wetting it too. Removing dry glue with dry paint could pull paint off too. I'm getting ready to do some detail painting on a chassis. I'm gona give it a try. Thanks for sharing this Casey, you've ignited all sorts of ideas!
  13. I believe those to be the years of this truck. They went to the third brake light in '95 and this kit doesn't have it. I own a '96 so reference material was superb. Needless to say this kit isn't 100% accurate and it drove me nuts knowing that. I built it pretty much out of the box. I used bucket seats, wheels and tires, from my parts box. I used the first section of the exhaust system from the kit and mufflers from the '49 Merc. The rest of the exhaust was scratch built. My first on the exhaust as well as my first attempt to weather a chassis. I really enjoyed the process. I also attempted a spray-in bed liner using thin white glue and baking soda. While the process needs perfecting I think its a nice touch. The body paint is all from Testers one coat lacquer line. My idea for the build was to create a restored daily driver so to speak.
  14. I'm curious, has anyone else had this problem of turning brown? I use the Testers stuff all the time, not only to fasten glass but to also use as gauge glass. I will also use it for light lenses. I hate the thought of my builds turning brown.
  15. You got that right!! Asphalt is for getting to the track, Dirt is for racing!!
  16. Your bench certainly looks busy. You got all kinds of things going on there. Very cool!
  17. Very nicely done! I hate little cars and what not but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the work that goes into a build. You did a fantastic job on this!
  18. I just picked this on up from storage last night. Its been awhile and with the F-150 coming to a close I started the sanding, scribing, molding, re-shaping, making a hell of a mess process. I'm having a bunch of fun sanding down styrene again and letting the dust fly! Its all over everything, even in my drink! Am I gona drink it use ask.... of course! How else do you keep the styrene flowing in the blood!
  19. Funny you guys bring that up. I have put some thought into building that model! At least getting it as close as possible. Cash's song car that is...
  20. This is a really neat idea and fun build. Good luck I'll be following along.
  21. The Steelers can do away with there injury problems if they would quit going out every weekend and running around like a bunch of wild banshies!! My son is a Steelers fan so I gotta here it all the time! Being from Baltimore I'm expecting the Ravens to win today and go up against NE. However I'm not confident they will beat NE next week as it will be at NE and Ravens away games are at a high school level. I don't get it
  22. I agree it will be Packers vs. ? in the super bowl. But I'm not saying there going to win the super bowl. Its been a crazy year and anything is possible. I called NE for the win tonight but I didn't expect this display! WOW!
  23. I use white glue like we use to use in grade school. I just put some glue in the area I'm working on, work it around with a paint brush, then dip my brush in water and work it in the glue. You want the glue to be thin so you don't loose details in the model. Thicker than milk but thinner than paint. As you thin it out you won't really see the glue anymore it will be like a tacky glaze. Just have fun and experiment with it. Its really easy and fun and adds a nice touch!
  24. Yea pretty much. Pinched it out of the box and sprinkled it on till I had about a 1/8inch or so covering. Didn't pack it or anything. Just let it sit a good while and when dry knocked the loose stuff off and then went over it with a dry brush to get the loose stuff out of the details. Then brush painted it testers flat black. Here's I pick of how the bed is sitting right now while I'm waiting for it to dry... I'm doing the bed in sections so the glue doesn't start setting before I have a chance to cover it all evenly with glue and sprinkle the baking soda. Looks like snow. It would be some good stuff to use for snow if you figured out a way to work with it in that aspect.
