  1. Todd i will be there. I have been to it before but bever entered here. I have entered in Jaxcon twice and a show down in south fl. Looking forward to it since its so close.
  2. I also had a good time at the show. While i dont particularly like the peoples choice/ voting/ NNL style shows it was a decent show. As a relative newcomer to the shows (past 3 years or so) i didnt notice alot of the builds as " old news". I do think that it would be a great event to have annually with that same 1:1 car show and think the location is perfect and the venue nice. Food and whatnot was very expensive but there are ways around that. My kids had a blast too. I think with some better advertising , more signage at the venue ,and more show space it could be a awesome show. I felt the tables were too close for how many people were passing through. Maybe next time get the show its own ballroom. There were several rooms not used in the same area. The Vendor section was a letdown for me as there were very few kits for sale. Jantrix , will you be attending the Modelpalooza show?
  3. Since I just completed the 55' 300 and thoroughly enjoyed it I am definately wanting this kit. Keep em coming!!
  4. Resurrecting a old thread but never noticed this section. Im in Windermere/Wintergarden area.
  5. Here is one i just built. Finished it the morning of a show this past weekend @ Disney World. The 1:1 show was the Disney Dream Car Weekend and the Model Car Creations club held there 12th annual Table Top Nationals there. What was the best was the 300 that Moebius used to pattern the car was there and setup next to the model show. About 300 model cars made it out. Dr. David Broxterman is the owner of the real 55 300 and was there all weekend and was great guy to chat with and is a builder himself. Heres a few pics
  6. I guess my blatant sarcasm was missed. Simply making point. Nothing more than that.
  7. Wow i guess its too much to ask for something new in a genre you dont (clearly) like. Ben didnt need to "rally" for backup. Us heavy equipment builders show interest and it bothers you? Im not sure I understand your disdain for a new kit for a group of dedicated modelers. Are you afraid they will melt all the general lees to supply the plastic demands of a Cat bulldozer? Maybe Revell will not reissue the 32 ford for the umpteenth time bringing the hot rod modelers to their knees? Yes i am being tongue in cheek but just making a point. What impact does it have to you? Im glad car guys (me included) have had great kits like the Chrysler 300 and 50 Olds coupe tooled. Truck builders just want the same consideration!
  8. Ben im with you 100%. I build a little of everything but would absolutely love to see a 1/25 -24 NEW tool bulldozer , tractor or any new equipment made. I would buy multiples just as i have the Lonestar , Prostar and every Round2 truck kit that has been reissued. Yes the heavy commercial builders are a niche group but , it is a group that is growing every day and the kit makers see this. I was at a IPMS show here in Florida and we had almost 30 heavy trucks in the class. The had to move us 3 times during registration because of how many showed. Heck a FARM TRACTOR won the IPMS nationals Best in Show. People are starting to notice for sure. Regarding the Meng dozer I am wanting to get that kit soon as it hits our shores as well. It may be the wrong scale to some but it will look great on my Hobby Boss HET M1070 and trailer kit. I think some of you guys get a little closed minded when it comes to what to build. I mean how many times can you build a 32 ford. Probably a million different ways but its still a 32 ford. Try a kit outside your comfort zone. Try something you know nothing about! Im sure you will pick up some new techniques along the way. This is a great hobby and alot of the NON car stuff is amazing. Btw I like the 32 Ford. I was just using it as an example...LOL
  9. My sugestion wasnt so much to separate the images from the comments. Under Glass could continue on just how it is with its "good jobs and nice build " warranted or not. I suggested a section where you post looking for HONEST feedback on a build or W.I.P with the understanding that it could be good or bad. If its allowed in Under Glass why does this always come up? I understand that rules dont get followed sometimes but i also realize not everyone is looking to have people tear apart their build. I always appreciate any feedback on my builds because they may see something i missed or may know something about the subject matter that i dont. I can then decide if i want to fix or research the suggestion more. I think the bottom line here is we all want to help other builders but some peoples wording or approach for fear of offending them is what prevents it alot of times. Just a suggestion as i have seen it work on other modeling forums.
  10. Not sure i follow you here Niko. You say it would be the "death" of the Under Glass section but you are looking for feedback? I think if a separate section is not feasible then just asking for feedback in our posts is the easiest solution. I dont post often cause i dont build often enough. I built as a kid up into high school then took a break until about 4 years ago ( im 33). Upon returning to the hobby i trashed a few builds till i got serious and focused on building a clean box stock build. I still try and build over my head sometimes but usually practice major changes on a side project or spare body. I usually try one or two new techniques on each build. Sometimes they work sometimes they dont. Forums like this and other are a great resource as long as you realize who is giving the advice. Also Youtube is filled with good tutorials from well known builders. Going to shows and contests also really opened my eyes to what can be done and also inspires me to build better. I have entered contests and even won a few awards but always look to improve. Honest feedback definately helps. I try to ask the judges (espacially at a IPMS event) what could be done better and what they were looking for. I dont build for trophys but enjoy hanging one by a build ive done. My younger brother also builds and we bounce ideas off each other and honestly critique each others work. It helps to be your own worst critic sometimes and not being afraid to start over or redo something till its right or the best you can do at that time. Its only plastic. Also if your not having fun walk away till frustration subsides. Often a fresh look will fix it.
  11. Good topic and some really great points made here. I think the main problem is most of us dont know who is on the other side of the keyboard. We dont know their skill set, age, desire, or physical abilities. One thing I would suggest would be for the forum to add a section for Criticism. On a aircraft forum they have this. Under Glass would become a "showroom". If you post a build in the "CRITIQUE CORNER" you are EXPECTING criticism good or bad, no complaints or whining. That would eliminate most of the trouble.
  12. Perfect! Im messing around with the same kit but im not going to go as far with the body. I applaud you for taking on this many corrections and look forward to the finished product. Whats the plan engine wise?
  13. If your going this far with this body you should have left the molding line in front of the rear wheel. It follows the bottom door line straight back to rear wheelwell. Your modifications are awesome and as a fox body owner i love what your doing to this kit. Keep at it.
  14. Theres alot of valid points on both sides here. All that really matters is whether the person building is enjoying the build. Some people just dont enjoy hours or even minutes of research. They build what and how they want. In the grand scheme of things does it matter? Are they ruining the hobby for the people who want it right down to every detail? Not everyone wants to spend a year+ on a build while others crank out one in a weekend and move on i think most of us are somewhere in between. Like Dr. Cranky says it depends on how you feel and your attention span, etc... Honestly the first thing i look at in a build on display or posted is build quality not the firing order or if there are the proper amount of tissues in the tissue holder. I feel the overall build quality ie: mold seams , glue joints , paint finish etc. come first but thats getting off topic. Remember this hobby is many different things to many different people. Not everyone has the funds, means , skills or even desire to do certain things to a model kit. If that bothers you then just move on, no harm no foul. I am by no means an expert modeler and mine may have inaccuracies that stand out to an expert in the field. Im OK with that. I had fun building it and if i do go to a show and someone else enjoys it than to me its a success. If not my shelf isnt going to care...lol. Sorry if i rambled
  15. Very cool. My Mach ran 12.90 @ 109.80 with drag radials 17" , longtube headers and full exhaust , tune , shifter , 4:10 gears and some pauls high performance goodies. Also had HPM lower control arms and edelbrock double adjustable uppers, eibach pro kit. Fun car. Broke the rear end housing at the track (had moser axles already) so put a new fully welded housing in it and 4:30 gears in but never got it back to the track.
  16. Best of luck on the purchase. What year Mach do you have? I had a torch red 04 lightly modded. Lost it a few years ago to somebody who thought red lights were optional. Only 22,000 on the ticker. Im looking for 2011-12 5.0 gt now. I have a 92 lx hatch now bit i miss that 4 valve motor.
  17. The smoke grenade chain is not included with the kit. I used some 42 link per inch chain from the ship section at my LHS. Probably a little too big but close enough for me. The stowage straps are strips of masking tape and just some brass rod for the antennas. Thanks
  18. The tank is made by Mitsubishi heavy industries and other than the 120mm gun is designed and made in Japan. The main gun as i understand is a lic. copy of the German made gun on the Abrams and Leopard tanks. Thanks
  19. I usually build heavy commercial trucks and cars but have always been interested in military stuff. I found thus kit at a hobby shop open box for $15 with the Tamiya photoetch kit in the box. This was my first military build. This kit just fell together, very enjoyable build. Comments or critism always welcome. Kit: Tamiya 1/35 jgsdf type 90 tank Paint: Tamiya acrylics / Testors dull/gloss cote Weathering: Oil paints thinned with white spirit and Tamiya weathering kits.
  20. Any idea on vendor turnout. Is this a different one than the pinellas park one
  21. This year was another awesome show and contest. Me and my brother had a good time and found some awesome deals in the vendor section. Thanks go out to the First Coast guys and the organizers for putting this together. We were already planning projects for next year on our ride back to Orlando!
  22. We should be thankful any of these old truck kits come back. I know i am it saves me money by not having to buy them on ebay. I welcome any trucks round2 reissues. You have to understand that many of these molds are 30-40 years old. That alone is going to bring along challanges. Yes you will need to fix ,file, fill and sand nearly every part on the kit but thats part of the fun. They do build up into great looking display trucks if you take your time. Keep em comming Round 2
  23. I got these two kits in a cash/trade deal with a great local builder and wanted to see if anybody has any info on them. I searched on here and google and dont find few builds with them. I heard they are kind of rare. They appear to be great kits. The molds are very clean and have good detail. Has anyone built these or know when they were made and if they are rare.
  24. The body appears to actually be a DG productions piece. I have that same body. It came on a newer International chassis. They also made Gmc Topkick bucket trucks and pole trucks. Great build. I had the same idea for mine when i found it. I will probably put it on a Paystar or S-series chassis.
  25. Thanks for all great comments guys!
