Two Little DR1's
Bastardo replied to JHDrew's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Crosses are not a problem - they are a part of the kit, but they are ment for the Red baron's plane. I want to do one of the versions with stripe-style camo - that's secksy -
Two Little DR1's

Great looking "drei-decker"s Is the first one painted or are the stripes a decal? If painted, what technique did you use? Been looking for that Eduard stripped Dr. I for a while now... And curently I am working on an old Revell's Dr. I in 1/28, adding 95% of the detail in scratch and it's been going on forever... And I want it in the same scheme as your Dr. I, so I'm asking about the technique above -
Dang, I'd love to turn the key in that definition of mad and evil... LOVE it!

One of the most jaw-dropping dragsters I've seen... Ever! -
Wow, that's a wonderful build, mate! Good work with the scratchbuilt parts

Darn it... My PB account got out-band-with-ed-thingy, so I had to open a new one... But some progress has been done and here are some shots: Upper left: A machinegun Upper right: The machinegun with a bracket, mounted on the dash Lower left: 2 pulleys Lower right: Air intake Upper left: Fire extinguisher (I probably misspelled this one...) Upper right: First aid kit Lower left: CB station Lower right: A slingshot... Don't ask... And EVERYTHING is scratchbuilt

Thanx, guys There are PLENTY of ideas in my head, but the problem is that a day doesn't have at least 56 hours... Got some progress done: New exhaust: No, it will NOT be pink in the end New exhaust on the car: Helicopter-transport hooks are mounted: Tow hooks are mounted to the front and back bumpers: Started work on the pulleys (not sure this is the right word...): To do: - Add some hand-held weapons into the car - Fire extinguishing system - CB station - Add some details to the dashboard - Aerials - Some other small bits 'n pieces And then she'll get her first primer coat

Wow, that tube-work looks awesome...

Since the roof-gun will be operated by the gunman, I had to provide a toy for the driver: The radiator: The engine cover got the last pieces of wire: Started work on the fuel tank: Tank's place in the car:
-
Abused some wire lol and got this: Inner door panels got replaced with some more serious stuff: The way the cage will (not) be seen in a car: Gotta protect the gunman : Engine cover started getting some texture:
-
All this...: ... turns into this: The gun moves up and down and the whole roof platform is on a bearing so it rotates freely 360° A quick dry-fit:
-
Rear-end bull-bar: Rear bumper: A floor-piece: Added some pieces to the mount to make it stronger:
-
Added some protection to the door: A few more pieces of styrene on the body: Evergreen profiles turned into a base of the front bull-bar: Mount for the bull-bar: A dry-fit:
-
Almost square footprint:
-
Butchered: Just thinkin.......... On the wheels already:

Ok, so I started this monster on 01.02.2011 as my 5 cents to a group-build on some other board. The theme is something like "Your own interpretation of a death-race vehicle you'd like to have". Or something like that... Anyway... Quite some progress has been done and I'll post some shots here. I hope the pics will scream loud enough, but in case they're too quiet, ask me anything you'd like to know The model is a 1/24 die-cast from Maisto. In case I haven't mentioned before: I LOVE modifying die-casts The wheels are from some toy-car, most of the stuff has been scratch built using the Evergreen profiles and all kinds of junk that lies around my hobby room Ok, the pics Out of the box:

Now, that's a head-turner

Ok, I know that 2-part rust thing, one of my friends used it before Thanx for the answer! About the chromed rims: I'd go for some strongly thinned oil-paint-based wash, and before it dried completely I'd scratch some chalk pastels (brown, black, grey, ...) onto the fresh oily stuff That would make it look like some dirt got caught in the rim's lines, holes, ... You can also try simulating scratches on the lip of one or more rims (I still remember the moment when my Seat Ibiza's almost new 15s with polished lips hit that curb a few years ago... Pain and agony...).
-
Rims 'n tyres need some dirt, but appart from that she's sweet What technique did you use to replicate the rust?
-
My 5 cents: For my at-the-moment WIP (something between a post-apocaliptic and Death-race Hummer HX concept ) I used a whole bunch of different metal bars (approx 1 - 1.5 mm in diameter) and some quick glue for the roll-cage (I know - you need info on the chassis, but I'm posting this because I'm going to use the very same technique for my next custom build and that is going to be all-tube chasis, a huge V8 and some attitude to it... ). Here's the result: The WIP: Link
