Very Nice!!!! I love the F1 cars and it is always interesting to see the different designs thru the yrs. I was at the LB GP in the early 80's while stationed there and fell in love with the JP Special, I just wish I had my old kit from when I was a teen, not even sure who made it but it was 1/16 scale i think.

The 2011 Race Season starts this weekend
gunner replied to Tommy Kortman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll watch all the F-1 races and ALMS and anything else other than Nascar. I think this season will show Nascar for the boobs they are. they will not be happy until they drive all tv viewers away. -
bodybuilding
gunner replied to MikeMc's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
I used to work in a boat factory and helped build the molds used for the various parts, it was a lot like the pic, build up with wood as close as possible then bondo and primer to the design specs. Lots of work that ended up in the trash after the mold was pulled from the plug. I remember spending hours and hours sanding on the molds to get them to production quality. -
Paint Strippers - What to Use?
gunner replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I found this stuff at the local Meijer but it seems expensive for the the size. I will say it did strip everything off after about a day. -
In lovely Grand Rapids here freezing my tail off, I grew up on a farm not far from here and other than 14 yrs in the Navy have lived in MI my whole life. I'm just getting back into the hobby and looking forward to meeting others in the area.

Wow, fantastic job! What did you use for reference? What did you use for the clear fuel line on the engine?
-
Very nice job!

Quick update, 3rd and final coat of primer, mounted the engine. Not to bad for my first car in many yrs.
-
Interesting car, well done.

And people say my Juke looks ugly?
-
This looked interesting so I picked one up and have started some basic fitting and such. Starting to trim out the front wheel vents on the hood, only a little bit of blood loss I look forward to seeing how you do yours.

Much respect for the military
gunner replied to wgflatliner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the kind words to the Military. I got out as an E-6 after 14 yrs in the Navy, I have done many good things all over the world and felt ###### proud when I wore the uniform in a foreign port. I knew that I was likely to be the only American that some of these people saw in their lives and I did my damnedest to treat everyone with respect and give them a positive view of Americans. Myself and fellow shipmates did a variety of things from giving out books and cookies at a refugee camp in Hong Kong to repainting an orphans school in Latvia. I won't gloss the other side of coin though either, it was a lot of hard work and many many many days away from my family. The military life is not for everyone, it did help me grow up and I've seen things I would never have seen had I stayed on the farm. To all the Vets here in this forum I want to add my heartfelt THANK YOU for all that you did and know that you did HAS made a difference. For those that have given their all for this country all I can do is Salute you as tears fall. Thanks again for letting an old Vet rant and having this forum here so we can all enjoy the small things in life GMG1 (SW) Gavin '81 - '95 US Navy -
Nice! I didn't know anyone made a Sunbeam model, I'll have to keep my eyes open for it now. These were the poor mans Cobras with the V-8.
-
Very very nice build, I love the LeMans type of cars and yours really does them justice.

What is your dream model kit?
gunner replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, since I now own one I'd like to see a Nissan Juke model but safe bet I'll be waiting a long time for that one. -
Show Us Your Stash!
gunner replied to Bluzboy66's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have no pic of my stash but I've only been at it again for a month or so. I have 4 cars and 1 Navy ship in my stash with one in progress, I don't have the space to do more than one at a time. -
Absolutely one of the best interiors I've seen on any build, everything is just top notch.

Because you can doesn't mean you should
gunner replied to Greg Cullinan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No offense taken, I know the looks are "unique" but I hate having cars that blend in with the crowd. And yes this car is a blast to drive, it has a CVT transmission that you can select 3 modes. The turbo really kicks in after 2000 rpm, it has been tested at 0-60 in 6.8 sec. Not bad for a 21k car. -

The design definitely has no middle ground, either you like it or don't. My old car was a 04 Scion Xb so I'm used to "odd" cars. The 1.6 turbo makes it very fun to drive though -
Stunning work!! The detail is unbelievable, do you have some secret shrinking ray gun or something?
-
Nice job, I liked how you did the underside for texture.

I've been told that my new car is questionable at best
