'78 Olds Cutlass Supreme
exnyman replied to Chuck Most's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Here is a long shot but, maybe try using a combination of the 86 el camino and 80 Monte carlo? the hood, front fenders and doors on the Elky are a little closer to the Cutlass in shape, but the Monte yields a more correct wheelbase, roof, trunklid shape. This would be a lot of work, and way beyond myskill level. As the owner of a 1:1 79 Malibu, 80 Monte and 86 El Camino, I'd love to see more G bodies from the 78-88 era. -
Gotta give my Kudos to Steve as well. Fast delivery, exceptional communication and he even notified me when a kit I wanted wasn't in stock, then notified me when it was to see if I still wanted it. If all businesses were this customer oriented, dealing with them wouldn't be the hassle it has become.

It may not be dead on but it sure is pretty close! looks great! Nice to see something out of the mainstream.

A beautiful build! Unfortunately, looks like trumpeter screwed up the grille, looks like they added a center divider to the 64 grille, which is incorrect. The 65 grille was convex, not concave as it was in 64, and only the horizontal bars showed through. Too bad they couldn't get something that noticeable correct, especially at this price!

Need info on 66 Chevy interior colors
exnyman replied to oldscool's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm thinking it would be black, but cannot find anything to verify that either. I know the 68-69's with the parchment (white) interior did have black carpet and headliner. I believe that started with the 65 model year but again, have not been able to verify it. -
I have to agree with Mark Taylor on this one. In essence, to me, this looks too much like the old Sebring coupe, which never sold in huge numbers. But I agree, the challenger is probably on Borrowed time. Since it is based off retro styling cues, and the original Challenger only had one generation to draw those cues from, where do they go next with it? It would make more sense probably from a cost standpoint to revisit the Charger as a two door as it would share some parts with the 4 door. And therein lies another thing I never understood...why did they all start making the two and four door versions of cars have almost completely different sheetmetal? Makes no economic sense. Back in the old days, say, a Chevy Impala Coupe shared its entire front clip, most times trunklid, windshields, rear bumpers and much trim with its 4 door linemate. Then by 1988, a Chevy Beretta and a Corsica, though identical under the skin, shared no body panels whatsoever, though they bore a resemblance to one another. It became more expensive to tool up a coupe in an increasingly smaller market. I wouldn't mind seeing a Charger two door in addition to the Challenger, as I am a two door fan and have owned nothing but coupes/convertibles. It is so boring seeing the sea of mouse grey four door sedans that litter todays roadways.

An excellent build! If the color you were going for was to match the car in the photo, I have the book it was published in and it is called Tahitian Turquoise. For some reason, on my computer screen, the picture and your model look like Dark Blue Metallic. If that is actualIy correct, then the color is Danube Blue. had a 65 Impala Sport Coupe that color from 1978-1980.

The MCW kit really isn't too bad right out of the box. My example actually was pretty close to Modelhaus standards, was very pleased with that. Actually, although the roof isn't 100% accurate to the actula 1:1 car, a keen eye to the 69 sales brochure indicates it does match the illustrations in it, since they were not accurate to the actual car, as well.

Gorgeous! Perfect choice of color combination

Looking Good! Resembles a car a friend of mine had back in 77 when I was a senior in high school.
-
You've inspired me to get moving and work on my MCW 69 Biscayne again. I don't have the skills to make teh corrections to the roof like you have done, but hopefully, it'll look good anyway. Mine will be a replication of my Dad's 1:1 company car he had from 69-71. It was FathomGreen, light green interior, 6 cylinder, powerglide and nothing else. I don't have an extra 70 Impala kit around so will improvise and use the chassis from the current Revell 66 Impala SS. With suble differences from year to year, the frame was basically the same from 65-70 so It all lines up and serves the purpose.

In late 1974, I learned how to drive on my Dad's then brand new 74 Impala, not as well screwed together as our 68 impala was, but still a nice car. I own what has to be one of the most unusual 70's cars optionwise: a 79 Malibu Classic Landau Coupe with factory 4-speed manual and V8, and factory electric sliding sunroof. There were only about 1902 4-speeds built in 79, and only 842 79's had a sunroof....I have only heard of two others with both the 4-speed and sunroof. I love this car every bit as much as my 60's Chevys, even if it is a 70's car. Personally, cars from the 70's get a bad rap but just look at what you could still get in the 70's, that is now gone or almost gone.....convertibles? in an American brand, other than the Mustang, Camaro and Corvette, gone, Wagons? gone. Coupes? almost gone...4-door hardtops...gone, bench seats, gone......mix & Match options...gone, annual model changes, gone....Whitewlls, raised white letters....gone. Chrome bumpers, chrome trim, vinyl interiors, vinyl tops, all gone. So to me, while the cars from the 70's may have been slower than their 60's counterparts, may not have had the best workmanship, and many had big bumpers, they have far more personality than the generic Asian silver/gray/black/burgundy blandmobiles or the just plain uglymobiles that pass for cars today. Park a 70-73 Gremlin next to a Honda Fit and tell me the Honda isn't the uglier of the two.....I'll take the Gremlin any day!

STILL OUT THERE: POST YOUR ROAD GOLD
exnyman replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here is my lineup awaiting the transporter taking them from my former home in Ohio to my home in Arizona, 67 Impala, 68 impala, 68 Nova SS, 69 Impala coupe, 69 Impala convertible. In addition, already in AZ are my 79 Malibu Classic, 80 Monte Carlo, and 86 El Camino SS. -
There is a gap and I think the GTX actually DID have those gaps. Here is a link to the 68 Plymouth Brochure showing the Sport Satellite's tail panel. It has the gaps but not all of it is in red. If memory serves me correctly, the GTX had this same panel but had the extra red... http://www.oldcarbro...%20Line-13.html

Looks exceptionally nice! Love the color combination. And your foiling job is outstanding! I was building one of these but got stalled because the foiling didn't come out right, then I broke one of the rear axle shafts tring to put the tires on, so I set it all aside for a while.
-
Looking good! I have been trying to come up with something that would be a close match or a good startoff point for those wheel covers but so far, not coming up with a suggestion. It does look good with the sport wheels though!
-
Wow! This is looking great! Just goes to show that you don't always need a kit with a ton of parts to make something look good! Ya just need talent, and you've got it! That headliner is a dead ringer for the one in my old 68 Chevelle 300.....I'll have to try that tip!
-
The AMT chassis may be better but the Johan Body is far better than the AMT. The AMT doesn't capture the rear quarter panels or the rear wheel opening shape very well at all, looks like they used a car that had extensive bondo/patch panel work done to it as their master.....
-
This is gonna be a looker! What color will the body be? I know you mentioned it will have a white top.
-
And to add to the confusion, there was from 75-77 another "road wheel" that wasn't......it was used quite a bit on Century models and was actually a wheel cover which looked very much like the full-sized car road wheel, was a 15" cover but I think it was also used on the large cars into the 80's. http://hubcaps.org/century.html
-
Thanks for the info, I have a few of them in my stash but never looked that closely at the seat! Actually, it looks like the interior tub from the Revell Monte is closer to what my '80 has as far as seat/side panel material, than the actual 80 kit interior.
-
Looking good so far, always liked the Monte LS models. Where did the front seat come from? I am building a replica of my 1:1 1980 monte Carlo which has a bench seat with a very similar pattern. The kit has buckets so I really want to match it to my real car.
-
beginning in 74, the side molding on the Impala Custom was glue on, my dad's 74 had it and it was a constant source of annoyance to him as the ends would start falling off and droop. Some Impala models with the metal moldings, and Caprices, had clips. I think that by 76 though, all the B body Chevys had stick on trim on the sides.
-
Looks great! Love the comversion work and the color! I agree with you on the dash, I did a conversion to replicate my 1:1 68 Nova SS, but left the dash alone...even with the actual car sitting in the garage, as a reference, I still don't know that I can get the dash right, my scratchbuilding skills aren't that advanced. I did have to fabricate front and rear bumper guards though,as my car has them. I used the chrome headers from the AMT 70 Impala kit, cut them and filed the back to fit.

What kits can I use for a Chevy Celebrity?
exnyman replied to Agent G's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The other base you might consider for the project would be the 82-83 Cavalier from MPC, they seem to be relatively cheap to obtain, and even though it is the hatchback, the general shape of the wheel opening flares, the windshield and rear tail panel areas are somewhat a good starting point. the side profiles are similar with the lower tuckunder as well. The Chassis should be the same save for the wheelbase stretch, Maybe combine the Citation, Volvo and Cavalier to create a Celebrity? This picture shows A hatchback and convertible along with a Celebrity sedan and wagon, when seen together, you can see the similarity in the basic design of the Cavalier and Celebrity http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Chevrolet/1987_Chevrolet/1987_Chevrolet_Cars_and_Trucks_Mailer/1987%20Chevrolet%20Cars%20and%20Trucks-01.html
