  1. Finally a moment to get a bit of bench time on the Jeep now that Jim's wheels and hubs came in. Here's a mock-up with the hubs on and a better shot of the wheels. These are real beauties. Jim's stuff is flat-out awesome. Thanks for following along and comments welcomed.
  2. Yea Chris. Thanks for the offer of the stencil. I'll probably redo them later since it now is a must. I'll not let this get the better of me. I will prevail.
  3. Well, the final details on this build are driving me nuts. Mostly its the Goodyear decals on the tires. I'm on my fourth set and after applying them two days ago with a coat of dullcoat, these decided to peel up too. Of course I noticed it when i was resizing these pictures. I'll need to break off the rear tire and wheel combos again, sand them down to bare rubber and reglue them. I'll probably go without decals. The front tires, O rings, have dry rotted so I'll need to replace those too. DSC9 is this Saturday and I have tons to do around here before then to get ready for the BBQ after the show so I'm quickly running out of time. Here's a few pictures. Painting the inside of the body flat black made a huge difference.
  4. I'll take some of that too as I can't even finish a 1/24th scale build in a year.
  5. I have to agree, that Mickey Thompson is really cool. Looks like the belt is missing. Did it disintigrate as some of this old rubber stuff does over time?
  6. Hot dang...that's cool. I can't believe how fast you're blowing through these two rails and with all of the little details, I figure you must not ever sleep or even leave your bench. Hope to see these both soon.
  7. Hi Derrick, thanks for the thoughtful words. Here's the build thread on the stalled vintage camper. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=48138&hl= One day, I'll get back to this.
  8. WOW ! Tom, thanks for the kudos. I saw your interior a few days ago and thought it must be the maid's day off. Did you see the vintage camper I've been working on? Here's a peek.
  9. Thanks Danno. One more additional item to go which will reside on the window sill then this one's buttoned up. Stay tuned for the results.
  10. Most excellent builds Mike. What's up on the bench next?
  11. I'm looking forward to it as I have freed up my schedule to attend.
  12. Thanks Ira. I really appreciate you following this build. Its been on the bench for some time, off and on. Well, this morning, I got the windshield in and tonight I'll look at putting in side windows, maybe just the front half. Also, got the hinge pin worked out but I need to make sure everything inside the body is done before putting it in place. I'll post some update pics this evening.
  13. Nice work Chris. This gets better with each bench session. Looking forward to seeing this in person next weekend. BTW - you need to make a scale model of your avatar. Its so cool.
  14. With the rate you're going, these will be done by next weekend and you'll have another stellar build almost completed by the time you head out to DSC next Friday. Really looking forward to seeing these as well as your other amazing creations on the tables at DSC9.
  15. Thanks for the kind words gents. I really appreciate it. As mentioned, just a few more details to go with one of them being the pivot rod for the tilting of the chassis. Still trying to work that out. Other tasks include windscreen and fixing the rear tires where the Goodyear decals caused an issue. I did get the inside of the body painted flat black and it looks so much better. I'll get some pics loaded up tonight.
  16. That is completely cool. Nicely done. You're really breaking new ground with these body mounts. A question: will the solder connections be strong enough for you to put strain on when you trim down the rod ends?
  17. Masterful work John. At this rate, you'll have these done for DSC9 and then us AZ boys will be able to marvel at these in person. Glad I'll not be entered in the same category as these.
  18. That color scheme will be off the hook. I may be able to help you out with drawing up the decals but I'll need to find better reference. Let me see what I can do. Some one on here surely has an ALPS printer. Anyone?
  19. Thanks for the comments and following along fellas. I have a few more added details to share with you. A made a horn and put it under the extended side of the cabin to keep it out of the weather. Added a damp looking towel over the edge of the sink. Crafted a derby hat that I wanted a bit of texture on so I shot it with some automotive undercoating from a distance and then added a fabric hatband. Also put in a window sill. Finally, created a folded up newspaper and put it in the rafters along with the whiskey bottle. Also weathered the underside of the roofing material. I need to figure out a way for the separate steps I made to fit under the vehicle for traveling then this one's about wrapped up unless more ideas present themselves. Thanks for following along.
  20. Someone DID say BBQ. You're more than welcome Bill. If so, bring that awesome Cuda of yours. I'll get a better picture of those rims because they are awesome. Jim did a superb job again and they'll really look great on this Jeep.
  21. Thanks Chris and Bob. Yea, I was disappointed that I rushed through the Mango paint job for last year's Desert Scale Classic. I was just plain running out of time to redo it. I've never been a good painter, better at fabricating. That's why most of my builds are either bodyless or in primer. Yup, I hear ya Chris. I have a few ideas for a 1/16th scale or two but I still have a few smaller ones to finish up first.
  22. My rims finally arrived from Jim @ MicroNitro this morning and they will look so sweet on this Jeep. I haven't been doing anything to this build until they came in since so much resides on how the frame along with suspension and running gear look mocked up or assembled. Here's a teaser photo Jim sent me. They do look alot better in person as this was a phone photo. I'll get back to this one after DSC in a couple of weeks. Too much to do around here with a couple builds in the finishing stages and getting the homestead ready for the BBQ afterwards. Stay tuned.
  23. OK, new paint is done. Its not the best but I'm satisfied with it. Still need to paint flat black on the inside of the body and add some body glass inserts. Plus I'm still having issues with Goodyear decals sticking to the rear tires. In these pix, I have one on and the other one curled up so I pulled it off. Just means more sanding on the tires. Here's some sunlight pics.
  24. Chris is right, those tires are amazing and I know they're a bit of a challenge. I also like how you spot color marked them for the chassis they go with. Nicely done. Carry on... Will we be seeing these in a few weeks at DSC9?
