  1. Sorry you're not going to make it Misha. I'm looking forward to the new digs. I'll post some pictures to this thread of the event.
  2. Great progress on this. That shelf looks great. Following closely. It always seems that make some good strides and something arises to trip you up.
  3. I would be interested in hearing about Dave's set up for the axle and caster angle, possibly a diagram? How about a picture or two of your soldered up spindles too? I know I ask alot but us mere mortals want to see and learn from the masters.
  4. So who's all coming to this event? I know I'll be there. Mooneyez, Danno, Art Laski, Curt Raitz, and a few others I know about from the forum here. Who else?
  5. Had a busy weekend and not much bench time. I was able to apply some black fabric to the bed cover late Saturday night. Truthfully, I liked it better without it so now I need to make another bed cover. I like the idea of it covered in fabric but the piece of a black graduation gown just wasn't cutting it. A bad decision in the middle of a sleepless night. I think I'll try to find a much tighter weave material without any sheen to it.
  6. Uugghhhh....I can't see any photos.
  7. If you live in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, Texas or anywhere else for that matter, you will not want to miss DSC this year. All are welcome. A new venue with more space to spread out and also a cleaner facility. Check out the webpage at: desertscaleclassic.com. See you there.
  8. Tim - I did a little PhotoShop work and yes I think stance looks right on given you have taller tires in the front, which I personally like better. What do you think?
  9. Hey Tom...any more progress on this amazing creation of yours? Its museum worthy and I hope you're continuing to work on it.
  10. Ed - so glad you're sticking to it and not letting this make you throw it in the box and back in storage. Many times I've just had to walk away and come back another day. Has this build been completed? Let us know of your progress.
  11. Yep, same thing for me as Chris. Been I a while since I've checked out this build and now I can't see any photos. I'm not sure what's happened but based on others' responses to your photos, I can tell I'm really missing out. Help!!
  12. This is really progressing nicely Dave, especially for an office build.
  13. Danno - man I hope the floor's OK. :-) Bob - thanks for checking in on things. Works been slow since I've been finishing up my Willys. Tim - thank you for following along and also for posting details on your cool altered build. Can't wait to see what's next. Have not been paying much attention to this build because my Willys is so close to completion and I want to make sure I have something on the contest tables and not just the project table at DSC next month.
  14. I may just have to get some "Dip-It" myself. I've seen stuff like that at one of the home centers or hardware stores for dipping your tool handles in so they get a rubberized coating on the handle. BTW - the name of my flux is "Lucky Bob's" and I get it at HobbyTown which is now closed on this side of town.
  15. BTW Tim, I forgot to mention that I noticed your tweezers with the white tips. I see what you did there, you used heat shrink tubing. Very clever.
  16. Man Tim, your knuckles look so much better than my hand made ones. As for a secret, I wasn't sure if it would solder together or not so I tried it. I think the secret maybe the liquid flux I was using. When applied with the brush in the cap, it goes into all of the nooks and crannies through capillary action and when the solder is applied to a heated part or parts, it sucks in where the flux is residing. I don't apply the soldering iron directly to the solder, I heat the part(s) with the iron and when it/they get up to temp, the solder melts. Sort of an indirect method.
  17. Thanks Danno. Not much left to do to call this one complete. I can't believe I started this thread in January of 2012. Wow!! 7 years is a loooong time for a build to get done.
  18. Thanks so much Dave. It needed something back there. Will we be able to hook up at DSC this year?
  19. I'm going to use the kit front dropped axle so I cleaned it up and drilled it out. I made a pair of matching steering knuckles from rectangular brass tubing, brass rod for the spindle and some RB Motion stainless steel tubing all soldered together. After cleaning it up a bit, I added an RB Motion rod end. These still need a bit of cleaning up and polishing. As you can see in the last photo, I angled the ss steering rod so its away from the tire / wheel assembly. These knuckles are so strong and sturdy. Tanks for your interest.
  20. By no means am I trying to hijack Tim's awesome thread but I wanted to show my most recent steering knuckle. It was made from brass rectangular tubing, brass rod for the spindle and stainless steel tubing all soldered together. This still needs a bit of cleaning up but you'll get the idea. Its really strong and sturdy. As you can see in the last photo, the steering arm was soldered in at an angle to get it away from the tire. Now back to your regularly scheduled program.
  21. On my '25 T build, I made the spindle and the steering knuckle out of brass and soldered an RB Motion stainless steel tube all together and its really strong. Once cleaned up, I think it looks great. I'll get a picture posted tonight.
  22. Thanks Chris. That will be at DSC next month. Got all of the windows in but the rear which I'm still trying to get to fit. I used thick clear acetate from one of my grandson's birthday presents. Driver's side is partially down and the passenger side has the class number painted with flat white enamel to represent white show polish. This is the second front window as the black trim on the first one was blotchy from painting by hand. I masked this second one with a relatively new masking film made by TruColor paints. I got the windscreen installed and wouldn't you know it, I got glue on it when I was gluing in the passenger side. Luckily, I had a third clear windshield in my stash. Its all painted up and ready for install but I'll be danged, I can't get the second one out. May just leave it. Onto the pics. Work continues, stay tuned.
  23. I was finally able to get some bench time in last night after the busy weekend. I used a portion of a telescoping radio antenna for the rear bumper and some aluminum printing plate for the bracket. Here's a couple of pictures. Thanks for following along on this build. I know its been a long haul.
  24. Tim...as a functioning front end guy, I really love your work and the selection of an example. I'm really interested in seeing how you'll be doing the spindle and steering arms.
