  1. OK, here's a few pictures showing how I make the hinges for the doors. I'm using aluminum printing plate and, believe it or not, a staple. The staple is bent with another 90 degree angle into a U shape. I make sure the bends are crisp. Also, the distance between the bends must match the width of the cut printing plate. The aluminum sheet is bent tightly around the staple with the shiny side out. With a fine point scissors, I trim the aluminum sheet close to the bend and continue bending the sheet around the staple. At this point, I cut the posts of the staple with a wire cutter to the length I need them depending on how they'll be applied. Then the finished hinge is trimmed to length and applied to the door while being held in place with a tweezers held tight with a small clothespin. I hope this explains the making of these hinges for you John and anyone else who's interested.
  2. O man, how have I missed this?? Glad I got dialed in. Clay - this is looking spectacular. That front end is a thing of beauty. Your brass work is spot on. I'll be following along and be right in the front row. So glad to see you share this with all of us. Such inspiring work.
  3. Back at the bench and not a moment too soon. We all need some Teresi bench eye candy to heighten our modeling senses. I need to now go and refresh my drool tank as its running on empty.
  4. I've been working on the engine and drivetrain for the past few days. Broke off one of the spark plugs so I had to start with a new engine. Also had to lengthen the rear axle assembly so I replaced the driveshaft enclosure with aluminum tubing and the stabilizers with piano wire. Here's a picture of the modified axle assembly next to the kit part. No engine pictures yet, not much to show
  5. The passenger door needs two hinges so I'll get a "how-to" made for you John. Thanks for checking in.
  6. Thanks Craig. Appreciate your interest. Getting more done so I'll have an update for you guys tomorrow.
  7. One more. This one shows the hinges better. made from aluminum printing plate and bent piano wire. On edit: see above photo.
  8. This would appear to not be humanly possible as with your other builds but you manage to pull it off and pull it off with class. At 1/8 scale, I'll bet its really big. What is the overall length of this magnificent build?
  9. Thanks for your comments fellas. They're always appreciated. Was able to put in a few hours last night and got the floor attached to the frame and finished up the hinges on the driver's side door. The wooden panel is only held on with pins at the moment. Here's a couple of pictures to share. That all for now.
  10. I have been wondering what you were up to lil' brother. I just knew it would be epic and this doesn't disappoint. I just can't stop studying each and every picture. You must be done by now.
  11. Nicely done. Good to see a salt flats runner for a change. The removable panels are impressive.
  12. Some really nice builds shown here. Not sure if I posted these or not so here goes.
  13. BTW - Dave - I like the new avatar. Is that a recent picture?
  14. Been working on the hinges for the driver's side door. One is done and the other is almost. Once it's done, I'll post a few pictures.
  15. Not much bench time over this 3 day weekend but was able to get the main part of the passenger side wood side done. Still have the entry door to do and I'm getting to work on that now. More to follow later this week.
  16. Thanks so much for the kind words Tom. Really appreciate you following along. Here's a couple of quick shots of my progress over this past weekend. Got the driver's side wooden panel done with the door just taped in place as I intend to have it open. The floor was painted black from underneath and treated with wood stain on the top. This will probably be painted or covered with aluminum sheet, not sure just yet. And lastly, the fenders and cowl were glued together and painted gloss black. I'll probably dull this down a bit, too glossy. Stay tuned, hope to get more done this long weekend.
  17. No thanks to the Orville moniker please. Over the weekend, I was able to get the driver's side wooden portion done with trimming around the windows and a door that will eventually be functioning. I also got the wood stained, the chassis and front body work painted gloss black. I'll post some pictures this evening.
  18. Me too! Looks good Walter.
  19. You must be about three feet tall and have super small hands. :-D Incredible!!!
  20. I have the popcorn figured out and even have a little surprise for when it is on public display. More on that later when the build is almost complete. That'll be a while.
  21. Looks good Kurt. You've built a bunch of dio's since then.
  22. Looking forward to it Rob.
  23. Here's those pictures I promised. This thing is so fiddlely and all three pieces need to be held together with clips. The challenge is mating up the cowl portion with the fender section and chassis.
