Watching the paint dry. Rat Roaster (It's dry! Well sort of.) 3/20/13
rmvw guy replied to rmvw guy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
While I'm waiting still, has anyone noticed the great article about the Meyers Manx in Hot Rod Mag. latest issue? I couldn't resist taking a couple pictures with my model coming out of the pages. -

Maybe while I am waiting for the paint to dry I could build this '50 Chevy I put away last summer waiting for the paint to dry, if I can still find all the parts, another risk. -
I forgot how long these old cans of Testors Boyd's enamels took to dry. I sprayed it on with my airbrush which didn't help. I had the idea to do a quick, easy build after watching others finish one of these in a week or less. I was thinking of Schwinn colors from the sixties, that's what Stacy's ride makes me think of. Green, purple, gold, yellow and red come to mind for me. This is when I wish I still had a dehydrator. And this is how they end up back in the box and never get built for me. Here's a few pictures.

Nice work, I see a theme going with '32 Fords although, there is one '34. My favorite is the one with the guy working on the back and peeking at the Hot Rod mag.

Nice job on both. I have often seen pictures of the Nomad but, never the Coupe. It has kind of a Ferrari look in the back. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing, I would be real proud of that one. One suggestion, I would rotate it 1/4 turn before hanging it.

It looks pretty good to my eyes but, I'm not trained on Plymouths to well. I tried to make a '55 Chevy sedan out of a hardtop once and realized the top on the hardtop was lower. About a year later AMT released the sedan body, maybe they will do that on the Plymouth some day. I guess this is similar to what Allen is saying about the Plymouth. I still like it though and appreciate all the effort you put into it. .

I wish they would make a low level Plymouth to ad to this collection and yeah, I would have to do one in black and white. Thanks for the compliments guys.

Thanks guys. Here's another driveway shot, I think I like these kind of shots the best.

I like it a lot. The engine looks perfect. I can't wait to see the body painted. Nice work so far.

I love the look so far. Keep it going please!

This gets more awesome every time I look at it.

Monogram '53 Chevy

I think this is the same kit I once had only it was boxed as being from the movie "Grease". I remember it had decals that looked like rust and I thought, "Why would someone want to put those on a model?" This was back when rust wasn't cool. -
How do you display your models?

It looks good Bruce with those doors too, and you're right it seems like you can never get enough of those shelves. It looks like you have a pretty nice collection going there and all the cars I like. Thanks for sharing. -
Thanks everyone else for all your comments, I am truly overwhelmed.

You're welcome Blair. Take your time putting the first one together and the rest will be a snap. They also have really nice hinges included, I placed my hinges where I thought I could maximize the amount of shelves used for models. The glass shelves are two for ten dollars I think and come with the pins. Good luck. -
Nice job, I love it!!!

Very cool, makes me want to try one of these. Did you just have an extra engine or did you make that too? I can kind of see where the rest of the parts came from. Nice job, congrats.

Blair, I've purchased them over the last 3 to 4 years, most resent last summer. The first one I bought was red and too dark for models. They still come in different colors I think and usually run around $49.00 and go on sale sometimes. The glass doors are around $100.00 a pair and come with removable black and white switchable panels. They come with solid shelves and the glass ones sold separately. Everything is sold flat with assembly required. Easy to fit in the vehicle that way. They are not completely dust free but, I think you could add thin weather stripping around the doors to help. Hope this helps you. -
Allen you will love this kit, I just finished mine with no problems other than the small delicate parts. The fuel line and steering link are really super delicate. Revell has given us a top notch kit once again. I will give you the link to my build, it may help although I don't know what direction you will go, mine is basic stock. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=68233&hl=

Every time the Forum goes down for a few hours I go into PANIC mode. I know I'm not the only one when I start receiving emails from others asking what is going on with the forum. No other forum that I know of is this easy to navigate and when you need help someone always steps up to the plate. Please keep it going!!! I hope you get any problems sorted out in time. Thanks Gregg and to all the moderators who I'm sure you couldn't do without.

Family interest in models?
rmvw guy replied to johnbuzzed's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My kids, Son and Daughter both built a few model cars growing up with 'Ol Dad. They are now 29 and 31 and have moved on to bigger projects. I'm the only one stuck with the likes of a 12 year old still at 62. My Granddaughter is working on her third car with Grandpa and I have a Grandson that loves cars already and has, all his one and a half years We just started getting out the old Hot Wheels to play with, which he loves. I have never seen a little guy this small push two little cars around and make engine sounds like he does and has for a long time. I think he might be a future model builder. Ironically it was my Mom who encouraged me to love cars at an early age and purchased some of my first models. She even bought me the BigT for Christmas one year and also one of the early Roth Weirdos. I think she wanted me to become a car designer and even taught me how to draw cars.
