Repainting a Diecast 1:18
martinfan5 replied to GeeTeePee's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes, I have used it to strip diecast in the past , and I would say it took less then 10 minutes to strip it, I used Rustolem Air Craft remover, can be found at Wal-Mart for a lot cheaper then at an auto parts store I would strip it, some diecast paints are usually really thick and hide a lot of detail, and if you are paint over that, it wont look that good, its up to you, but its a simple lets say 10 minute process of removing the paint, maybe a little longer, just depends, but it will be worth while -
Repainting a Diecast 1:18

You dont need to sand blast it, get a can of Air Craft remover, that will remove the paint , it wont take very long, and that will leave the body smooth -

$700 For Model Rims...
martinfan5 replied to MikeyB08's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have two sets of fours of those those wheels/tires, I need to list them , I could make $1,400 real quick -
I take it you are not o board with the color either SWMBO- she who must be obeyed
-
It looks pretty darn good in a flat color
-
Thank you, I am using Turtle Wax Rubbing/polishing compounds
-
Ok two stooges , I did not pick out this color, SWMBO picked out the color, so there Tom, thank you for the encouragement
-
Yes, nice paint Tomo, is that out of a can? or Air Brush?
-
about another mock up shot showing the new ride height, this time with the body on frame, and I was able to get close to the true color to show up in the pic and after I rub out the roof , this was just using rubbing compound, no polish yet, and the rest of the body is done now, just no pics yet, when the can of pearl clear coat arrives, I will get the body cleared with it

Doug, nice start on the dash Oscar, good job on the decals, she is looking decent Juan, after all the work on the decal's, the rest of the kit should be a piece of cake, looking good I think I got enough done on the Olds build that I can take a few a days and get back to work on the Minolta, I had some blue over spray on the white on the body, and no decals were going to cover it up, so I did mask off the body and re shot to cover up the over spray, now with out of the way, I can continue with decaling the body, and I still need to finish the engine, and the interior.
-
I have been using yellow frog tape to supplement my use of tamiya tape, I use tamiya for the lines, and then frog tape to cover the rest of the body.
-
Got the body in color, but it dried with a lot of texture, I thought I had crazed the body , it was that bad, so here is the body after I finished wetsanding it with 1000 , so up next, another round of paint, this is a very hard color to get the correct hue to show, even outside in sunlight, the color is a little darker , and a little more purple
-
Looking good, nice color choice for the body
-
Nah!, no bumping of the head is needed , I do like building American stuff, although it may seem like I dont at times Chassis in black paint, and thats it for the detailing, I still need to paint the exhaust pipes and get them installed and the interior now on to the body color, after several flips of the coin online, I decided to go with a bright color, so I used MM lacquer Hemi orange over white primer stripped the chrome from the wheels, and painted them with Tamiya Gunmetal and the body after a few coats of Future
-
Painted the brake drums, I used MM brunt metal on them and here is the rear axle with the springs , getting ready to a ride height mock up Here you will see the kit stock ride height and here is the ride height that I was at, I have since lowered it a little more and here is where the ride height sits right now, I dont think I am going any lower then this and I think this will be the engine I am going to use, the 396 from the camaro convert kit

Time for a little update, there going to be a lot of pics in this one Starting with the floor pan, its painted and the frame in body color, now this is not the correct shade , I will have to do an outdoor shot to see if I can get it to show fire wall in place, and in body color and body ready for the black base coat Working cutting down the springs, after this pic, I removed a little bit more
