  1. That thing gives me gaz!
  2. So what kind of lap times at laguna Seca? How about Pike's peak? I thought so.
  3. I have not even built any of the ones released so far!
  4. Dang it , John! Who let you off the chain? I haven't looked at this since your first couple of posts. I am very impressed. I am pretty jaded and have seen a lot so you know you are kicking @ss when I say that. You are. Can't wait to see it in person at GSL next year.
  5. Hey Ira, It looks great! It kind of resembles the Tasco Sports car that Gordon Beurig was involved with after WWII. Google tasco sports car to see what I am talking about.
  6. It is a great time for the serious model car builder. There are lots of really well built models to look at. The seminars are all great and informative. Saturday brings the trade show/swap meet and visits to the museum. Sunday is the awards breakfast. As far as competition goes - there are a handful of "Oh My God GOOD!" models that compete for Best in show. Then there will be another somewhat bigger group of models that are excellent in all ways that compete for the class awards, especially in Street Rod, Custom, and drag racing classes. Some classes are not as competitive. I would urge anyone who is intent on being or becoming an excellent builder to go. It is inspirational to see all the great models and to talk to the builders. Everyone is very open and friendly. I consider it an essential part of my model car schedule!
  7. Nice job, Hippiedude! That looks really good. On one of the custom cars and skeletons forums (I forgot their name!) A bunch of people started to trash talk this kit. That was like waving a red flag at a bull for me. I started one immediately and it turned out well. I used the VW engine and Monogram American wheels, Testors Jimmy Flintstone tires, and scratchbuilt exhaust. Shot it in pearl orange. Please forgive me for posting my pic here, Hippiedude.
  8. Very cool! I spent a few years of my childhood riding in the third seat of an off-white Country Squire! Loved it!
  9. That is good news. I like those long, long wheelbase FEDs that ruled just before the mid-engined cars took over. I may have to fire up the "jaws of life" to get my wallet open to buy one!
  10. Wow! An Electric Turkey! That sounds like a name for a late 60s acid rock band!
  11. Let's see. All of this is from 73-76 time period. Cars I had: 63 Impala SS w/ 283 4 speed, bucket seats. Traded for beat up 66 Chevelle SS 327 4 speed. 63 Riviera $175. w/two smashed quarter panels but only 60K on it. Put on a 65 clip! traded for my.... ..33 Plymouth 4 Dr w 289 Ford. I chopped the top 4 inches. Never finished it. Someone else did and I do see it once in a while nearly 40 years later on the streets of the Twin Cities. 64 T-Bird Landau missing seats and carbeurater for a pair of chrome reverse rims...sold it for $40.00 47 Chrysler 4-dr and 40 Plymouth 4-dr got both for free from local farmers and sold each one for $40.00! Ones I didn't get: 60 Caddy Convert driver in good shape at a local gas station $200. 62 Plymouth 2 dr with 413 and torqueflite for $225.00 31 Model A coupe hi-boy with a chopped top and full house 300" Merc flathead for $150.00 The kicker - My best friend at the time bought a Boss 429 Mustang for $2000. and offered it to me a year later for the same. DOH! There were more but I was in High School and only making about $2.75 an hour.
  12. I have NEVER had builders block. I always have a million ideas. On occassion I have not had the time or energy to get to the workbench. When that happens I will just sit in front of it for 5 or 10 minutes and go over some of my current projects. I know I will get back to it and I always do. Once, many years ago, a fellow model club member told me he didn't know what to build next - he didn't have any ideas. I stood there in stunned silence!
  13. I have been there during the GSLIMCC and it is well worth it. I would urge everyone to attend the GSL and the Museum in one shot. It is worth it. They run shuttle buses from the show to the museum to make it easy. Don't say someday or one day I will. Just do it. 2013 is coming up.
  14. It is the Ohio Department of Revenue that is killing the swap meet. They are pretty draconian. I won't set up there ever again. Illinois doesn't really go after swap meets and the shows in Illinois are full of vendors! Ebay does have an effect but they are still lots of people who like going to the shows.
  15. I wonder if the hauler might be faster than the racecar. Hmmmm.
  16. This thread sure looks a group free-association excercise! Started with jingoism and ran through Tang and cartoons and ended at mental health. Hooooey!
  17. Big scale stuff is tough. It depends on your interests too. If you are more into American cars I think 1/16 is the way to go. AMT and MPC and Revell all had 1/16 cars. Monogram did 1/12. International and racing stuff would be 1/12. Either way it is slim pickings.
  18. Will you be applying some filth like the real one?
  19. I won't be able to tell. I suppose their will be a bunch of Dodge stickers left over! Do NASCAR engines use any OEM parts or are they all aftermarket or race only?
  20. Amongst other good looking GM cars already mentioned is the '73 Grand-Am in black with 455 and 4 speed. Also '64 Grand Prix. It's a bit more subtle but really well done. My top five would be 63-64 Riv (do not like 65!) 61 Impala 73 Grand Am 66 Toro 67 Eldo
  21. Tamiya Minis! 5 down and about 10 more to go!
  22. That is extra-awesome, Ira! You have such a good imagination which is kind of rare these days. I always enjoy your builds.
  23. Wow. It looks just like the New Zealand version!
