Ditto what Art says! It is just inert dust. Urethanes resins are pretty mild and when cured they are no more hazardous than styrene plastic dust. In other words - not!

New Beetle Hebmueller

WHAT!!!! That is a shocking revelation. You must correctify that misunderaquisitionning. Bob and Dave, I am seriously considering doing more vintage beetle and bus stuff. People like them, I like them, what's not to like about them. I like the Heb Hi-Boy. Very, very cool! -
New Beetle Hebmueller

Thanks for comments, guys. I consider it successful if you thought it looked like it was from the factory. It was a fun one to do. I also have a New Beetle Split Window in the works. -
I just finished the molds for this one! I have them on Ebay or you can contact me by PM. It fits on the Tamiya New Beetle and has had the front and rear ends smoothed out for a more custom look. Thanks for looking!

I love the Durachrome bug. It is one of my favorite funny cars and your body looks good. That car ran an older Logghe style frame , not one of the narrow "digger styles, however. I suppose it could be the '73 Durachrome bug! That would be cool. They probably would have switched to a hemi by then - everyone else did .

salt for a salt flat race car
Modelmartin replied to lilsceamer's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I glued actual salt onto a base and a car and it looked great for a while but when it gets humid out it will dissolve as mine did. I like the ground up chalk idea. You need something inert so forget the flower, baking soda, etc. That will attract insects! -

I voted with my wallet! I have 2 of his Willys and the Tucker Street roadster. Keep your hand in it, Ed! Even part time! -
Question about reverse light lenses?
Modelmartin replied to 62SS's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I like Novadose's idea but another trick for fast and easy "clear" lenses is to get some gloss white enamel and mix in a tiny bit of chrome silver to gray it up a bit. I think it looks pretty good for minimal effort! -
Very cool models! Thanks for sharing.

I finally got my act together and have these kits ready for sale. You can either grab them on Evilbay or PM me if you want one. They are $24.95 and include all of the pieces needed to make the conversion. There is no scratchbuilding required. It includes frame, wheel, and primary spacers, a new fender and of course a really nicely done treaded Metzeler tire courtesy of the artistry of Clint Williams aka Steamboy. Thanks for looking.

Any good hobby shops in the Twin cities?
Modelmartin replied to locoengr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hub Hobby is good but Scale Model Supplies is a place you can get lost in. Huge, huge selection of kits, diecasts, supplies, tools, magazines. If you like Model RR you need to add an extra hour to look at that! Around here we lovingly call it "The Dungeon" because it is in the basement of a 40s era row of stores. It is easy to get to and is only a few miles from the X where the Wild plays. We always take out of town modelbuilders there for a little "Shock and Awe". I have been going there for 25 years and still like to wander around! -
I share your pain!! I also built this kit. If I were to do it again I would mask and spray the dark blue and then cut out and lay down the red and light blue stripe decals. Oh well! That's how we learn.

Most diecasts are made from a zinc alloy and conventional soldering techniques won't work. I once tried to use a propane torch and I puddled a 1/43rd!! Jb Weld, epoxy putty, various auto body fillers are all good ideas.

Giro d' Italia 1979

Great stuff! I love the 935s with a full rack of rally lights! The BMW 320 Group 5 car was cool also. I loved the Stratos high rpm launch. Made my day! -
I have actually built hundreds of resin kits. All of the cleaners mentioned so far are fine but I recommend in addition to very thoroughly wet-sanding (400-600 grit) the body being very careful, obviously, to not sand off the detail. It helps very much. If you are painting with spray cans be sure to use very light "dust" coats of paint to start with. You can use wet coats later to finish. Good luck.

Thanks very much, guys! I very much appreciate your positive comments. I will most likely do some restoration work on this one - returning it to it's original paint job and fixing a few things like windows, etc. I will post more detailed pics in color when I get around to it - hopefully before too long. At the time I built this I was going to build a top fuel car with the same engine set-up and a 928 pro-stock! I started them but didn't get too far. Right now I am building one of my resin Bugzapper funny cars in M&M Crispy - Purple with purple polka dot paint - and a new one ; a 50 Buick Woody Funny Car! That one will be called "The Tree Hugger". I will post some more of my oldies as time permits.

Excellent looking car! I particularly like how the rear deck and fenders turned out. Very fun model!

So that's where the missing 7th Bugatti Royale went to!!

It is amazing what the right builder can do for a kit that most people wouldn't look twice at. You did a great job - you obviously have some knowledge of what vintage cars are supposed to look like.

I built this in 1979. It has a flat 12 and a compressed air induction system. It has four compressed air bottles mounted on it. I found an article and schematic for this system in an old Car Craft article about a similar system that Mickey Thompson installed on one of his funny cars. It also has a ground effects tunnel and skirts on the nose and side of the body. The wheels are 928 phone dial style painted red. It took 3 Revell 928 kits to stretch the body. I still have the model and am considering restoring it (I repainted it in the 80s and it does not look as good as this original paint job). Sorry for the bad photos but it is all I have of the model in its original paint scheme. It was a real fun model to build. Enjoy.

Does that make it a 951? -
Making a chrome roof

That high price for foreign kits right now is partly the exchange rate. The dollar has really sunk this year. It accounts for probably 1/3 of the price now! Nice job on the foil. That's what the airline model builders did back before Bare Metal Foil came out in '79. -

I am putting a 427 in mine! I was thinking SOHC but that would be too much work.
