  1. John, I really enjoy following your builds. Your ability to scratch build and detail a model is very admirable. Rob
  2. It's been a couple of weeks since I first posted this thread so I thought it is due time to update it. I have made some progress on the car. I put 7 coats of Tamiya yellow on the body sanding after the 3rd coat. I let the paint sit for 1 week until I masked and added the vinyl roof. I used Krylon Satin Black from a spray bomb for the roof. I still have to finish the front suspension however I think I have the rear setup well. I am open to comments and pointers. I used the disc brake setup from a Revell 57 Chevy custom kit as well as the wheels were donated by the same kit. Engine is at the stage to add details. With the Canada Post strike over now I can add the Photo etched details I just received. Interior has been painted and flocked with a product I found at Micheals called flocking dust. It is much finer than the flock I have used in the past. I am happy with the paint. I am not sure if I should polish it out or just leave it as it is. I have made the huge mistake of sanding through the paint in the past so I am a little gun shy to start on this one.
  3. Happy 4th of July to all of my great friends and family in the USA!
  4. I found a ultra-fine paint pen made by sharpie works the best. Very easy to control!
  5. I discovered this a couple of weeks ago as well. If you go on the net and search for Michaels coupons you will find 40% - 50% coupons which can be used anytime. I have picked up a few kits for $20 including taxes using these coupons.
  6. Interesting thought, we are building models in a unique way when 100's maybe 1000's have built the same kit before us. It really is amazing that we don't see models posted in the "Under Glass" section that look identical. Some of those older kits that don't fit well can take hours of time to build straight out of the box. Fit issues need to be resolved, bad flash, poor chrome, and warped plastic can really challenge the best of modellers. I have always admired those who can build a great looking model OOB.
  7. The 68 Charger kit has both the 426 Hemi and the 440 in it.
  8. Very nice work. Your paint is perfect!
  9. Nice car and work. What color do you plan to paint the car?
  10. Thanks Cliff, I see what you mean by the spindles being an issue. The wheels I chose won't work on either the front or back spindals of the Charger so I'll have to do a little scratch building on them. I just hope I can get them to level out; I haven't done this before. Rob
  11. I join the rest in the WOW!!! category. How do you do it?
  12. Ah yes, a Hemi would be a good choice ,however I have decided to go with the 440 instead. I wish I had one of these when I was in my teens, or even now for that matter. I am think yellow with black top, but I am not 100% yet. Suggestions on color?
  13. As a newbie on this forum I have to send a general thank-you to everyone. I have been building for many years but I lost my mojo some time ago and have not been motivated to get a model on the bench. Also, I have picked up some great tips and just love pouring over the on the bench and completed photos. So it is my turn to contribute. I started this 69 Charger last week. I am moving along slowly even though most of the kit has been built straight OOB. I raided my parts box for the wheels and tires and ordered a MCG detail set but with the Canada Post strike it maybe a long time before I see it. So here are a couple of shots of the build. Rob
  14. I could fall into any of the 4 categories but most often I am a 1 or 4.
  15. Terry, You're daughter has a real talent. What a beautiful voice. Rob
  16. What does it look like? I can't say I have ever seen a jewlery cleaner. Rob
  17. I couldn't agree more. Let me plead my case: 1. I am a new guy here. 2. I was lost in the moment of my embarrasment. Anyway, I do agree. I am a member of another modelling forum and feel the same way when I open a topic which is poorly titled. Geeze my wrist is soar! Rob
  18. Really nice clean build.
  19. I thought this would have something to do with lawyers and corporate greed. Instead of looking at the bigger picture they want to cash in instantly. I guess I will have to dive into my stash to get the lettered tires.
  20. I had to lift my jaw off my keyboard after reading this post. All I can say is Wow!! You are a true master modeller and an inspiration to all. Can't wait to see the finished project. Rob
  21. I haven't built a new model kit in a few years. Most of the kits I build come from my stash and the new kits I buy go into the stash. Recently I moved and my stash has been put into a storage locker. I have purchased several new kits of the last few weeks and started on a 69 charger last week. I just discovered there isn't lettering on the tires. I seem to recall that the tires were always lettered on muscle car kits. What happened?
  22. Things have certainly gone a little crazy here. The riot in downtown Vancouver is a black eye on this city. It really had nothing to do with the outcome of the hockey game. It was planned by a few thugs and the good news is they will all be prosecuted. The police have 1000s of pictures rolling in from the public showing these thugs in action. In this day and age you cannot get away from security of smartphone cameras. Some of them actually went on to facebook bragging to their friends about what they had done. Many were turned into the police. Acually I am happy to see Boston win the cup. I to am hoping the postal stike will end soon. I also have an order in the mail system I am waiting for. Rob
  23. I see what you are saying but I have to say I don't agree with the business model they are using. My daughter loves crafts so I would take her to Michaels to buy supplies. Being a plastic junky, I would always check out the model selection but was blown away by the high prices. I wondered why they bothered to carry models at such a crazy price. I'm sure they sell many of them at the higher price to unsuspecting people who are perhaps buying a kit for a child. This is wrong and could keep people away from the hobby thinking it is to rich for their blood. Anyway, I did print my coupon and did get the 68 Charger for $17.49. And to prove the point My66s55 made, I bought some paint pens at regular price. Duh! rob
  24. I just had a huge duh moment! For years I have wondered why the model prices at Michaels are so expensive. Just last weekend I was looking at the Revell 1968 Charger with a price tag of $34.99. I know most of the local hobby shops are selling them for $10 less. Reading through this forum I saw mention of a Micheals coupon. I went online and discovered they have 50% off coupons. Needless to say, I am printing one as we speak and getting ready for a little trip. Rob
  25. Thanks for sharing that Jim! Chargers are one of my favorite. Rob
