  1. I am not offended at all if you or anyone else purchases a model or anything else from Walmart. I agree that if a model is cheaper at another store you should buy it. I am lucky enough to have several really well stocked hobby shops in the Vancouver area that I can choose from. I have been going into these shops for years and years (40+) in some cases and have built good relationships with the owners of most of them. They have rewarded my loyalty with discounts everytime I make a purchase. Anywhere from 10%-15% is the discount I usually receive. If I add up the savings I make on tools, paints, glues, and kits I think I save more on average than I would if I stuck to big stores. There are or certainly have been hobby shops that carry a poor selection and don't really seem to care about their customers. I let them know with my money and never return. So having said all that, it is a free world and we all can buy what we want where we want.
  2. I am another fan of supporting the LHS. don't forget the big box stores don't carry the good paints, tools, after market accessories, etc. They are also very limited in selection. I think most of the kits they stock are the kits Revell is just trying to blow out fast.
  3. Thanks for the tip. I haven't seen this tape before but I'll have to keep my eyes open.
  4. Hi Paul, I live in the Vancouver area. There are a few more shops that I would recommend. Burnaby Hobbies is a great shop with a good selection of Model Cars and tools. Imperial Hobbies in Richmond has a very large selection of Model Cars. Here is the real gem though. Cameo Hobbies in Maple Ridge has a massive stock of pre-owned kits and new kits. If you are looking for a kit that has been out of production you may just find it here. When are you coming? If it works out I would be happy to meet for a coffee and take you on a little Hobby Shop tour. Gee, I may have to pick up a kit or two as well. Rob
  5. Nice work. I agree this is one of my favorite kits of all time. I have built so many of these I can't keep track of how many.
  6. I like it. Keep the updates coming!
  7. That looks great for a first build. Man, I know my first build didn't look like that. Take your time with the body and you will be fine. There are plenty of great tips on this site on how to paint the body. Remember, the more prep time you put into it the better the paint will look.
  8. I am really upset to hear the concept isn't making it to production. I had a space for this car right next to my 1998 Pontiac Aztec. I am sure I won't have to wait long.
  9. Nice looking Impala. I have to crack open one of these one day. Nice clean work Felix. I am looking forward to see it in Under glass. Rob
  10. What you are looking at is GM's new retro corvette design.
  11. That is remarkable! I thought I was looking at a picture of the real building in your first post.
  12. Hi Randy, I pass on the same words of praise already mentioned by the others. I joined this forum a couple of weeks ago and this is the first time I have had the pleasure of looking at your work. I could not imagine there would be people like yourself and Rommel on this forum with such amazing skills and so willing to share with others. There is no doubt in my mind there are others as well and I am looking forward to learning more. Thanks for sharing your work. Rob
  13. Great paint on both cars.
  14. Really nice Felix. How did you do the woodgrain on the Speedwagon? It sure looks great. Rob
  15. Romell, I think you should run some live workshops. I could hop on the i5 and be there in no time! I spent hours last night going through your 67 Chevelle build. All I could do is shake my head, amazed at the way you fabricate each small piece with realism. Your builds are museum quality. Thanks again for sharing. Rob
  16. Good Golly Miss Molly! What can one say other than you are truly an inspiration for many of us. That 454 looks really mean! I'd love to see the outcome of the 67 Chevelle as well. Thanks for sharing with us. Rob
  17. Really nice job Brandon. Your paint is flawless. Did you clearcoat and polish it? Rob
  18. I have a couple of great memories from my childhood around model building. When I was sick and stayed home from school, my dad would bring home a model for me. I remember waiting all day eagerly awaiting him to return from work with a kit. I guess his logic was it gave me something to do while I recovered. I am not sure, but I may have faked an illness on occasion just to receive a new kit. The other memory I have was going to visit my grandparents in Nova Scotia. Every summer all of my cousins, my brother, and myself were sent to spend 2 or 3 weeks there. Usually the day after our arrival my grandfather would load us all in the car and take us to Kmart where we each would pick out a model kit. This would keep us occupied for a few days sitting around the kitchen table fighting over the glue and paint trying to build the best model. I am new to this forum and have made a couple of posts of my current build. (69 Charger) Progress is slow due to a busy job and personal life. Why did I post my project here? To get feedback and learn. Some of the members of this forum have incredible skills and knowledge while others like myself only have basic skills. Hey, we all have to start somewhere. What is wrong with some constructive critism? Nothing in my opinion. I also play the guitar and when I get together with others I learn. Some aremore advanced than I, and others are not. Who cares? So, why do I build models? I love the challenge of making a nice clean car, plane, ship, or whatever. I learn about the subject and its history. Most of all, I just like to build models! I love going into a hobby shop, I love buying a kit, and I cannot wait to get home and open it up and look through it. I am glad to have found this forum where there is a large group of people sharing the same enjoyment of the hobby. Rob
  19. For the most part I am calm and cool while building but I have to admit I have lost it when I have made a stupid mistake. Some kits remain in boxes and I doubt I'll return to them.
  20. That is one sweet looking Mustang Marc. I can't wait to see the end result.
  21. Really nice work. I like the way the hood is coming together. Keep at it. Rob
  22. Nice work on a great subject. The doors look great.
  23. Nice work! I love this kit. I built it about 15 years ago painted midnight blue. I used HO scale wood for the box floor. It was one of my favorite builds and proudly sat on a shelf in our family room until my wife decided it was time to clean up and chucked it in the garbage. I no longer have the wife. I am going to have to get another one of these kits. Rob
  24. Thanks for the nice comments. Cliff, I think I will take your advice and move forward with polishing and clearcoating. Nothing ventured nothing gained. It is great to be back into building again! Rob
