I think it becomes a problem when it takes over your life. I am not aware of an episode of Hoarders about a model collecting hoarder, but I am sure there are a few out there. A few years back a friend of mine who owns a hobby shop was asked if he would buy as estate of hobby related items. He went to the late fellows home and could hardly walk through any room or hallway as model kits, model railway equipment, and just about anything hobby related was piled to the ceilings. 99% of it had never been opened. He knew the late collector as he frequented his store 2 or 3 times a week. He purchased the contents of the house from the family and had to hire a large truck to move the contents. I was also attending a hobby show where one of the vending tables was selling off die-cast cars, and N-scale model railway stuff from the estate of his late father. He was selling everything for pennies on the dollar. People were walking away with brass locomotives for $10 - $15 and believe me there were 100s of locomotives on that table. I could only imagine that the poor guy who owned all this stuff was screaming from his grave "What are you doing!". Now, this is when one knows they have enough.

I did see that. According to the Revell site it is a 1977 Chevy van. I really like that GMC pickup with the snow plow.

It wasn't me that did this, but my fiance used bleach to whiten clothes in the laundry. Who would use chrome stripper for something like that?

I did that and it cost me a house, Now I keep the majority of my kits in a storage locker because they won't fit in this tiny little apartment. Good news is, I don't have to sneak in new kits. lol

For those of you that don't know or remember Jungle Pam.

Thanks guys. I am going to build it pretty much as it is with some mild modifications. I'll take the advice and replace the wheels with something like a Cragar mag. My intention is to build this kit as a Jungle Jim hauler. I know JJ used a ranp truck in his day but I thought this would look cool done up in the same colors as the JJ Vega. I would also take some of the decals from a donor kit to do the van up. I was concerned that the van maybe post 1977 which wouldn't work at all as JJ died in 1977. I have had this kit kicking around for years waiting for the right project. Now to find a replica of Jungle Pam. Ohhhhh yaaa! Rob

I would say something along the lines that your Uncle who told you the story thought it was very cool that you have the same interest in modelling that your late Uncle had when he was your age. He told you about packing up his kits and supplies and putting them away for a day when someone in the family expressed interest in them. Your Uncle thinks if you build these kits it would be a great way for your family to remember you late Uncle. Best of luck and let us know how it all pans out. Rob
