40 Ford Pickup
Rob McKee replied to Rob McKee's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Well, it's been a few days since the last update. I have been sanding, filing, and shaping the fenders and now feel I have what I want. I decided to open the doors suicide using Rommel's tutorial on how to build the hinges. Working away at that today. Lots of filling is required to remove the old notches designed for the hinges at the front of the door. I also removed the think trim piece molded into the door. I am really going for a smooth look on this puppy. Also you will see the block for the new 5.4L engine sitting under the hood. The only other idea I am toying with is chopping the roof. I haven't done this before and may wait until a future build when my skills are a little more refined. Rob -
Hi Ross, I'm glad to see you enjoyed the kit your uncle picked up for you. Looks great! Rob

Today I Lost My Best Friend!

My deepest sympathy to you. I to have lost my best friend and know how bad it hurts. Nothing in the world can replace the bond a man and his dog can have. It feels like your heart has been ripped out when you loose your buddy. -

I really didn't have any skin in this game. My brother is a Steelers fan so I was pulling for them. I guess not this year. -

Thanks Paul, It really was a pleasure to meet you and to talk model cars. My only regret is I should of had you show me how you get your cars so shiney! I may take you up on that offer one day. Rob -
I love it! Nice job on a stock build.

Paint and interior are looking great. Nice job on one of my favorite cars of all time. Rob

It`s tough to pick just one. They all are very nice models. The Ferrari stole my vote in the end.

Alyn, that is incredible detail on the door panels. I have never seen anyone do that before with a realistic looking outcome. I can't wait to see more.

I can only chuckle now. I really do love this site though. I have met a fellow modeller from New Zealand through it. I have had some great conversations with some great people online here. And I have seen some unbelievalbe talent and skill from so many of the modellers on this site. Thanks Harry for letting us be who we are and not locking this thread. -

I think we are all cool here. I am in my 40s and just feel terrible when kids are treated poorly because of a few bad apples. As for laws. I have 2 really good friends that are cops and they don't agree with every law. Perhaps I would look at this differently if I had someone in my family who suffered huge damage from inhaling paint. Anyway, I wasn't trying to start anything here either. group hug now -

I agree on your statement about being underage. Completely. And no, I don't disagree with every law. I think we may have had some confusion on this heated topic. I just feel bad for a kid that wants to build a model but cannot buy the supplies because of a few bad apples. Rob -

Harry, I thought this was a discussion. I am way over 18 and this does not impact me. Furthermore this is not the law where I live. I am a law abidding citizen. I am stating the facts of what happens in real life. Laws are broken every day. I am not complaining about the law. I just think it is wrong. I trust that I can have an opinion? This is not about the law though. I am supporting Austin in being treated like a person. Not a druggie, or a tagger. We should all be happy that the kid is into our hobby. It is obvious that we are not going to agree here. -

I trust that Austin is telling the truth. Read through the thread and it really is his point. He is not arguing the law either. -

I am not against the clerk for enforcing the law. I agree that the clerk had to do so. The clerk did not have to be "He also wasn't very nice about it either" as Austin says. He is a person with feelings and was not aware he was doing anything wrong. I myself feel the law is rediculous. I know it is a law, I know it will not go away. I think often when laws like this are imposed they cause a whole black market. Hence, why I mentioned drugs and alchol. I didn't realize a person could get high on a can of paint. Maybe I have and didn't even no it. -

Harry, I am not assuming anything. Austin mentions this throughout this thread. -

Austin says the clerk wasn't very nice about it. I understand that as he was rude to Austin. My other point is about the senseless law. If a kid wants to get a can of paint they will get it. Any kid that is going to get spray paint to get high on will do whatever they have to do to get it. Marijuana is illegal, kids still get it. Rob -

Let's face it. If a kid under 18 wants to get high on a can of paint they are going to find a way to get it. Just like they do now when they want booze or drugs. I am sure we have all tasted the forbidden nectar before we were of age. As far as those who are tagging or vandalizing. Punish them. Why should a good kid like Austin not be able to spend his time building a model because of a few idiots out there. Turning 18 or 21 doesn't change everyone. Most who are up to no good at a younger age are still up to no good at the legal age. The clerk at K-mart had no right to treat Austin the way he did. I think the store should be made aware of how this clerk is treating customers. Austin is a customer regardless of his age. -

I am watching the game right now. Pittsburg just tied the game up at 23.
