  1. I have this kit sitting in my stash. I'll be watching your build. Great start, the paint looks great.
  2. Very nice Dave. I like those wheels and the color you chose.
  3. Congratulations on being asked to build for someone else. I agree it is a real compliment to your modelling abilities to be asked. Having said that I think it is really difficult to charge enough to cover your time. As you have said you will have to put a lot of time into the model. I guess you could estimate the amount of time you will need, add costs, and determine how much to charge.
  4. I would do this again in a heartbeat. It was fun and challenging but now I have a completed model for 2012. That is 1 more than I had last year.
  5. I was crazy enough to sign-up to do the 24 hour build as well. Doing a 3 day build was tough. I think I will have to have a stradegy in place for the 24 hour build.
  6. Well that's a wrap. I will spend a little more time on this build cleaning things up a little and polishing but I am happy with what I have now. This was a lot of fun. I guess at the end of the day I prefer to take a little more time to complete a build. I like to let the paint cure fully before I start working with the painted parts of the kit. Thanks Dr. Cranky for getting this going. Rob
  7. Getting very close to being finished. I have to finish wiring the engine and get a little detail finished under the hood. I also have to install the headlights, shocks, radiator, and shaker scoop. Just taking a little break for dinner but will be back at it soon.
  8. Our power has been out for the last couple of hours. I was working by flashlight for a little while but had to up. Now I can get back at it.
  9. Doctor Cranky, that is one mean looking machine. Looking forward to seeing everyone done by the end of today.
  10. I have been up early and working away. Decals are done, most of the small parts are painted and ready for assembly. I am just finishing of the chassis with a little detailing. Once that is done it will on to the engine for detailing and wiring. Rob
  11. Thanks Paul but after hearing about how expensive it is to ship there I'll keep trying. The hair dryer technique works really well. Of course you also must prep everything properly and warm the paint and body. I am happy with the outcome on the T/A and will do some polishing to the car to see if I can get it a little better.
  12. I don't anymore but I have a good friend who has build his own race track from plywood and copper tape. It is a real nice track complete with scenery, lights, people, etc. I have a collection of 30 or 40 cars I bought just because they are so darn cool.
  13. Thanks for the link Skip. The tutorials are very easy to follow.
  14. Yes, it did come out all the way around. I'll do a liitle polishing once everything is dried well.
  15. I just couldn't wait until tomorrow to lay this paint down. So taking all of the great advice I sprayed several thin coats of warmed Tamiya gloss black onto the warmed body. In between each coat I brought the body inside and warmed it with a hair dryer on a low setting. The last coat was a little heavier than the others and gave me a really nice shine. The body is sitting under a lamp to keep it warm while it gasses out. I really want to thank everyone for the great advice. It solved my problem and I have not been told to move out of the house because of stinky paint. Next time I will try to write my name in the snow.
  16. There sure are some great models being built on this thread. I couldn't get started on the painting stage of my 3 day model until 4 this afternoon. I am pleased with the outcome of the paint on the body. I have almost finished painting every piece so tomorrow should just be assembly and decals.
  17. Some great input here guys. I am a little behind on my painting today but will continue tomorrow. I am going to keep the paint warm, the body warm, and try the hairdryer when I bring the model in. The primer has gassed out and I gave it a quick sand with 2000 grit. Washed the body and now waiting for it to dry.
  18. Very impressive work Jim. I am looking forward to seeing the end result.
  19. It's funny you say that Greg. I would do same except it was in the basement of my parents house. I would use any spray bomb my dad had laying around to paint my models. Most of the time it would be tremclad rust paint but it seemed to work. I painted a Chevelle with Tremclad Black, no prep at all and it was super shiney. Do you think I can do that now? It must be the humidity here in BC.
  20. Yup, we have snow here today. lol Steve, that is a great idea. I recall an old friend of mine said he would hold a hair dryer over his wet paint and I sure do remember some fine paint jobs by him. Thanks, I'll give that a try tomorrow when I paint the gloss black.
  21. LOL, Maybe later I'll try writing in the snow after a couple of brews. This is where I need Paul's expertise here. I'm going to spray it tomorrow with the gloss black. I'll likely try to give her a buff anyway but I like to start with a shine. I would think after a buff and some clear coat would all be well but I haven't tried this before. I used to have a nice warm garage to work in and never ran into issues with the weather before. Now I am working with a cardboard box. Did you talk to your doc about the gout?
  22. Oh, I was just having fun with your respnse to Ian's post.
  23. Actually, nothing gets said by my significant other if I bring it in right away so I have been doing that. I am going to let the primer gas out until tomorrow. Just to be safe.
