Need more specific thread titles
Rob McKee replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Is that wrong? Good to know, I was just getting the frozen bread out. I agree with you Skip. There are a few on here that leave me guessing. I hope mine isn't one of them. Rob -
Painting in the snow
Rob McKee replied to Rob McKee's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hi Liam, we only got a couple of inches but it is cool out here in Coquitlam. Thanks guys for all of the suggestions. So, if I have this straight I should: Write my name in the snow. Avoid eating it. Warm the paint. Warm the body to be painted. Spray quickly out side. Light coats Bring it in as soon as possible and keep it warm. I have tried steps 3 - 7 with the primer and waiting for that to set up. Once it does, I'll try the black gloss coat. Thanks again guys! Rob -

Smokey and the Bandit Trying to finish a 78 Black Trans Am in a nice gloss black. Primered and ready to go.

Does anyone have any tips for painting when it is cooler out. I am spraying tamiya laquer which isn't something I can't do inside. The smell is to stong and I get complaints from my significant other. I prep the body, warm the paint, and step outside to spray bringing the car back inside to dry. The gloss finish doesn't turn out the way I would like it to. It is really flat in some areas and shiney in other areas. Not shiney all over. Has anyone else experienced this?

wheels and tires for a porsche carrera
Rob McKee replied to h3ae86's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is to bad. I don't think I have ever bought a car kit from RoG. I find most of the American cars boxed by RoG become available as Revell US. So I just wait and save money. -

Man that is disappointing. Why would they package those crappy tires? -

What an amazing work of art. I would love to go and see that in person. -
Seems like everyone is trying to complete a kit this weekend. I grabbed a 78 Trans Am at the shop today and started in on it tonight. I would love to finish this one off by Monday. Go for it Dr. Cranky! You can tame that AMC!

Thanks Darrick, I am thinking a 2 tone paint. Just not sue which way to go yet. Could be silver and black, white and blue, red and white. Rob -
I have to get one of these now. After reading through this review I have come to the conclusion that this kit is just awesome. My father used to drive these on occasion to help out his friend at Double Deck Tours in Niagara Falls Ontario. I was just a little fart at the time and often would go with him. I would sit on the turn signal box to the right of the driver. That was my job to work the turn signals. Many fond memories riding around in those beasts. Unfortunatly my father passed away 4 years ago. I wish I could build on for him. I know he would have loved it. Rob

40 Ford Pickup
Rob McKee replied to Rob McKee's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I managed to get a little more done on the truck today. More and more sanding to remove molding on the hood, cab and doors. I don't have to much more to go, just the back of the cab. I got the wheels mounted to the chassis today as well. It is sitting just the way I want it to but I need to shorten the front drivers side axle a little to pull the wheel into the fender a liitle more. Thanks to Rommel's tutorial on door hinges I finally managed to make and install the drivers side hinge and door. It took a bit of tweaking but the outcome is great. Maybe a couple more days of body work left to do and then I can start preparing for paint. I am still undecided on the color but have it down to 2 different schemes. Rob -

Nice work on both the Audi and the Mercedes. I think I may have to grab the Audi kit you showed me at Imperial hobbies.

Funny, I have been lurking over this kit at the LHS. I went back to Burnaby Hobby (the one that was closed) last week. They had a lot of the new kits out including the Manx Dune Buggy, the AMT Gremlin, and the Double Deck Bus. I was so close to buying the 56 Nomad as well. Maybe next week. Chuck at Cameo bought a 4000 kit collection. He is getting it on Sunday so it will take some time to go through. There is a mixture of Military, Planes, and cars in the collection. Should be interesting to see. -

Thanks, I guess it isn't an origional idea to do suicide door on this beast. It just seemed like the thing to do. I also started work on the Manx dune buggy today. Cool kit.
