Scalecoat 2 Wash Away Paint Remover
Rob McKee replied to Evil Appetite's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was going to ask today but the owner was busy on the phone when I was leaving. I would like to try it because I hate the caustic nature of Easy-Off. Regardless of how much I protect my hands I always seem to get some on my skin. It really dries the skin out instantly. Can't be good. My other addiction is Model Railroading and I have used Scalecoat paints. I never noticed the paint remover but then again I wasn't looking for it. -

Gregg, Do you know if it is carried by anyone in Vancouver Canada? I would like to read the magazine but would prefer to pick it up monthly after hearing all of the nightmare stories from those who are receiving it in the mail here in Canada. Rob -
6th Annual 24hr Build
Rob McKee replied to Wildrice's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Alrighty then, I am in with a Revell McDonald's Firebirde funny car. I maybe nuts to try and build this kit in 24 hours but it should be fun. Besides I picked this kit up yesterday for $10, so nothing to loose. Of course this will be built box stock. Maybe I'll add wires to the engine. Rob -
2012 is now here and I decided I better get going on a new fresh build. I picked up the old 1940 Ford Pickup which is an old tooling repop. The kit sure shows its age with molded in exhaust, pleated interior panals, and an old school engine. I decided to update this build kitbashing several parts from the 1937 Ford Good Guys kit. I stole the wheels, engine, interior panels, and complete chassis from the 37 kit. I have started test fitting parts together and have built the chassis to see how it lines up with the body of the truck. It looks like I will need to extend the frame a little to line up the wheel properly. I am removing the louvers from the hood. I prefer the a smooth look. Lots of filling to do on the inside of the truck bed.

Scalecoat 2 Wash Away Paint Remover
Rob McKee replied to Evil Appetite's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I thought I would try a LHS that sells model railway stuff and although they carry Scalecoat paints they did not have the paint remover. I guess I will stick to the Easy Off. -

Scalecoat 2 Wash Away Paint Remover

Well, I couldn't find Scalecoat paint remover in any of the LHS in my area today. So, it must not be available in Canada. -
Scalecoat 2 Wash Away Paint Remover

I haven't tried scalecoat paint remover before but I sure am convinced that it works well. I'll check my LHS tomorrow and see if they carry it. If they do, they must list the ingredients by law here in the great white north. I understand it is very difficult to get any item like this into Canada unless the ingredients are listed. -
Sweet build, nice save on the paint to!

I have that Chevy Van and trailer kit and have been looking to build it. Geez, maybe I should reconsider and wait this out. Maybe I could retire a little earlier. lol -

An Age Old Question I'm Sure
Rob McKee replied to Dirkpitt289's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There are a few aftermarket companies out there for car modellers. Check out Model Car Garage for a start. There is much much more available to the aircraft modeller in the aftermarket. -
Cheap flocking material...
Rob McKee replied to Scottnkat's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can secoond what Frank said. Michaels does have flocking in a wide variety of colors at reasonable prices. I think I paid $5 for a good sized container of flocking with the shaker on it as well. -
I to prefer to drive an American car with a V8. As a matter of fact I have never owned anything import in my life. I know that doesn't put me into a position to judge import vehicles with 4 bangers and I am not trying to do so. This is just my preference and I think Andy is trying to say the same thing. I have a good friend of mine who owns a Mazda CX and I have seen him clean the clock of a GT Mustang. It doesn't mean I am going to go buy one though. Rob

There is a lot of truth in the attached cartoon. I was in Mexico last year and visited the ruins at Coba. One of the highlights of the tour was a visit to a Mayan village where the decendents of the Mayan civilization still thrive today. They live a simple life with no modern ammenities. When asked about the end of the calendar, the answer was "that was as far as the got".
