1/16 scale Pro Tech part
Rdkingjay replied to Pro Tech's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Another winner Charlie, thanks. I am putting together part #'s now for the wifey to order for me for christmas. Parts for my 1/16th dukes charger. BTW my profile pic of the hemi engine has one of your distributer/wire/wire boot kits on it. Best I've used in a long time. Here's another angle. -
Thinking of doing a 1/16
Rdkingjay replied to scubadiver411's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Scuba, I am 75% of the way through a re-issue 1/16th dukes charger. It, along with the "street charger" are re-pops of the original kits from 30 some odd years ago. Under the bodies are all vintage nascar, as stated earlier, with the exception of the full interior with the street charger. It is NOT a good kit for a first timer or builder with limited experience. Aside from a mountain of work that I have created by making my kit to a more street level/tv series appearance charger, there are numerous fitment problems right out of the box. Specifically with the suspension. When you buld your kit, take extra care to remove mold flashing from the suspension parts and test fit/mock them as much as you can. You should also be prepared to modify (cut/file etc.) some parts to get the proper tire/wheel well clearence. Good luck with your kit and feel free to ask questions. MR 1/16th, do you have detail goodies for that will work/fit this car? -
This is Johan Styline kit. In order to closely replicate one of our cars, I had to remove a ton of molded in chrome/stainless do-dads from all over the car. I also turned it into a sedan by adding window frames/"B" pillars. I built this to closley replicate cruiser #201, which is pictured. There are some inaccuracies, such as the rear glass, wheel covers and I had to wing it as far the interior goes. Era correct plates are custom made decals. Thanks for looking.

Bult this one about 13 years ago. We never used these in 77, save for a few unmarked/admin ones at HQ. We had LTD'S in 77 and at the time only a few turnpike cruisers would have had some type of push bar.

Pro Tech 1/16 - 1/18 scale part
Rdkingjay replied to Pro Tech's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Charlie, I am knee deep in a 1/16th General Lee build of the re-issue kit and making to a more street level appearence. Already fabbed up an engine bay, dash and back seat. Working on a center console. I am looking for a gas cap, wiper blades and interior goodies like window cranks and handles. Any suggestions? -
A '77 with a twist for you highway scofflaw types. An unmarked with a Hemi. If this were my assigned cruiser, I'd never come off duty!!

WOW! The first few pics make that thing look real. Great job.

These S/E kits from Revell are just beautiful. Very well detailed and cast. I recently bought the '68 Charger kit. Looking forward to seeing this one done

1/16th Dukes Charger * 3/28/15* Update, **DAISY DUKE AUTOGRAPH**
Rdkingjay replied to Rdkingjay's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Aside from a few touch ups from handling it while building and adding detail, the engine is complete. I added, fittings to the fuel lines at the carb and a fuel filter, as well as supply and return lines at the pump with fittings. The block is painted in Testors Chyrsler Engine Red. I de-chromed a number of items, including the oil pan, timing chain cover, oil filter and mount, as well as the ignition and coolant over flow can, which are not pictured. Hoses/wires left dangling and yet to be attached are the red positive cable going to the starter, upper and lower cooling hoses, ignition wire and supply return fuel lines. This is the big key to finishing the chassis. Once mounted, I can then mount the new exhaust, hard fuel lines to the tank, and rear suspension. [ -
Vent!!

Wow, for a first timer, you paint like a pro!! Your detail painting on the suspension and drive train gear is awesome.

1/16th Dukes Charger * 3/28/15* Update, **DAISY DUKE AUTOGRAPH**
Rdkingjay replied to Rdkingjay's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Fabbed up an exhaust system. The header collectors are styrene tubing that I stretched out on the header side, to get around the headers, leaving the tip with a tapered appearence. The pipes are stainless tubes, as are the tips and the pipes around the rear end are actually made from the thickest pipe sweating solder I could find. The mufflers are made from aluminun tubing that was actually shaped like an airplane wing, so they required a little re-shaping. I then added styrene ends and drilled holes for the pipes. The whole system still needs to be cleaned up, painted etc. But I will attempt to polish the tips. -

Front suspension is complete, except for the shocks, which will be mounted later when the modified engine cage/shock towers are painted and installed. No big surprises with the front end. The upper "A" arms were painted in an aluminum shade to give them an aftermarket appearence and the rest of the suspension either got satin black with a light coat of gloss or a shade of raw cast. The front wheels will be poseable and the suspension has some up and downward play. The thin steel line coming up from the drivers side is the rear brake line that has yet to be trimmed and bent and mounted to the brake booster. Thanks for looking. -

Got the chassis painted. Decided that since this is a "custom" built car, I would paint the whole under-carriage, rotary style, as opposed to just fogging the color in, like it would appear from the factory. I then airbrushed in the black "undercoating" that a builder of a real car might do. The orange is real EV-2 Dupont Hemi orange. The rear axle has my first attempt at a chalk mark, a scratch built sway bar and brake lines going to both sides with a proportioning valve in the middle. All the suspension components are painted and ready to be assembled, this was the last piece. Once assembled, I'll set the ride height and look for clearance issues with the new engine bay. Hopefully, there won't be any. Thanks for looking. -
Also based on a 2001 #4 Kodak car. I stripped and sanded this car in decreasing grit sandpaper unitl it was almost like chrome. I then decaled and cleared it. I built this because I could not afford the platinum cars qvc was selling at the time for $200.00. The actual car was raced at Rockingham, 1 week after Earnhardt was killed and is the only race with black numbers. Like my AC Delco car, it has a few battle scars from a move and storage. Thanks for looking.

Very impressive work Ryan. I love resto's and prefer them to new kits. Your ingenuity with mold making for the hood pins and rocker panel guard for roll bar padding is terrific. Looking forward to the finished product.

1950 Ford F-1

I'm sorry, I truly am, but I don't remember the color name. I built it so long ago, I don't even remember for certain, who's kit it is. Sorry. -
Built from a 2001 Team Caliber diecast of the #4 Kodak car because real ones from ARC of Harvicks second year in the NBS were impossible to find except for the championship car. Built about 10 years ago and survived a move and a couple of years in storage, with only a few battle scars. Automotive grade paint custom made decals and three coats of sanded and polished clear. Thanks for looking.

Doing something wrong again??
Rdkingjay replied to Rdkingjay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Good info gents, thank you. -
Went to start a new topic in Nascar yesterday. All my pics have been re-sized to approx. 640x480 and I kept getting an error message saying they are too big. I also noticed a a line next to the "attach file" button that says " Used 1.91mb of 1.95 mb global upload quota. ( max single file size 47.25K)." Now despite re-sizing, most of my files are bigger then 47.25K. If I shrink them down, they will be harder to see and Ive' seen many big photos here. Am I doing something wrong again? Thanks in advance.

I built this truck at least 10-12 years ago. I believe it is a Monogram or Revell kit. I think I bought it with the intention of pro-streeting it until I saw the perfect color for a stock build. It has survived a move and about 2 years worth of storage. The only dissapointment is the door decals, but a little character never hurt any model. The book on the seat is a shrunken down version of the owners manuel.

Very impressive work Greg. I was looking through projects, trying to find inspiration for my dukes Charger, when I found your Camaro project and it is just amazing. While my project is no comparison to yours, I have a lot to do to it, in my opinion, to make it presentable. If you don't mind, I may need to pick your brain if I get stuck. Again, wonderful job so far. I will be following this as it progresses.

Now that is a hell of a nice looking car!! I would love to see more pics.

Great looking car, love the paint work.
