Color and progress looks great. Did I see that you had to cut the side decals in half to help apply them? How well did they go on? I've had this one sitting on the shelf for years hoping to one day squeeze it onto the workbench.

Superb job Chuck. Up to your usual high standard of building.

Hey Chuck, congrats. on the well deserved awards. That finish on your Barry Setzer car is immaculate.

WIP.....69 Daytona Pro Mod..Updated 10/28/10

Well, the interior is pretty much done. Everything is attached and wired. The only thing left is to work up a chute release lever and chute release cables and then the body is ready to be permanently attached. I also completed the front sheet metal around the cowl. I also started working on the header pipes. I will have pics. of those shortly. -
When are we going to put this one to rest?

Central Florida clubs or shows??

Jim, I definately don't think that you are dealing with a bunch of people that don't care. When you try to establish something new there's always some hesitation, especially when you have folks spread out as far as we have in this situation. It's going to be tough to come up with a solution that meets the approval of enough people to make it worth while. If you are passionate enough to want to really get something going then simply keep trying and communicating until you come up with the right time, the right date and the right location for enough people to get together to discuss how to put something like this together. -

Yeah, that's got a nice stance to it. Looks good so far. -
your not going to like this

I guess I am missing something here. I went into Youtube and looked at some of the videos and at no time did I see this person make any claims that what was being shown were his models. He has simply created a few slideshow style videos of assorted models to show them off. What is the harm with that? If nothing else the original builders should be honored that this person would select their builds to feature in his videos. -

First off I went ahead and changed the blower holddown straps as I wasn't happy with the first set that I put on. I also added the dump tubes. For the interior I went ahead and scratchbuilt a Racepak computer along with the control modules that work with it. I found images online and transferred them to decal film. I also got the ignition boxes painted and ready to install. -
Very nice work so far Paul. I have this very same kit that I started a similar project a few years back. No chop on mine but I did choose to go with gullwing style doors. I need to think about getting it back out of the box and continuing with it. I can't wait to see where you go next.

Excellent work Jairus. The paint scheme looks killer. But I've got to say, that first picture is really baaaaaaaddd.
-
Some really nice looking bodies with slick paint jobs.

Here is some of the engine work. The base engine is a resin cast Ross Gibson 440 Magnum with different resin cast valve covers. The distributor and flex fan both come from Pro Tech. The pulleys are from Parts by Parks.

Nothing but good reviews here. Placed an order earlier this year and it arrived within 3 weeks and everything was top notch castings. -
Wow, so much enthusiasm for this cbp when it first started only to have two people finish anything. Sure would have been nice to see more completed builds on this one.

Central Florida clubs or shows??
1320wayne replied to Doug McCabe's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
It seems as if there is a lot of interest in getting something started in and around the Central Florida area. Needless to say, if a club is to be successful there will be some sort of ravel involved for some folks, even if the idea of a traveling/touring club is the way to go. I know that there is a club in the Phoenix, AZ area (Moonlighters I believe) that have club meetings in different locations each month. In some cases they are one end of the metro area or the other, which involves a bit of travel for some. I don't know if it's a successful venture or not but I would be willing to bet that it's hard to get the same group of guys present each month. My idea would be to post a request for anyone interested in throwing ideas around and set a day and time for all those interested to join in a chat session here on the board. That way you get plenty of folks present to throw out suggestions. One other thought that comes to mind would be to possibly create a club made up of chapters located throughout the state. SCMA, South Carolina Modelers Association has a structure like this where they have at least four chapters that I know of and it seems to work fine for them. You create one set of bylaws for the chapters to follow and each chapter is responsible for it's own meeting times and locations. Then, at least once a year, you set up an overall club meeting for all members to try and attend in a central location. Just something else to ponder. -
Jairus, I didn't make it home from work quick enough to beat you to this. My first thought was Richard as well. When I lived out there it was great to get together with Richard and Bob Robinson and others to go to the Boys and Girls club and do seminars for the kids and general build sessions to help them get involved, stay motivated and generally build an overall enjoyment for the hobby. It was/is a great way to help keep them off the streets and from getting into trouble. It was also great to see Richard bring some of the kids to different shows so they could get the chance to enter their work for potential reward. I miss those times. Good to see this collection going to a good cause.

Here is my completed work. Not sure if this is where we are to post the finished item but here it is anyway. Early in this thread someone posted a link for some photo-etched spinning props. I went ahead and copied the image, resized it and printed the image onto decal film and then transferred the decal to a tinted clear styrene cutout to represent the spinning prop. I scratchbuilt a pylon out of styrene tubing and aluminum tubing. I could only find one or two images of what a pylon looked like but I was lucky enough to pull an image of the top of the pylon with the Reno name on it. Again, I copied the image, printed it onto decal film and then transferred two of the images to the top of the pylon after painting it white. I used red striping tape along the length of the pylon. I sacrificed an old award plaque for a base and added ballast and turf and created a post for the plane to be supported on.

Model Car Shows/Swap Meets in WA. State?
1320wayne replied to impcon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gary, check out the coming events page on the IPMS web site. www.ipmsusa.org You will find that there are plenty of shows up in your part of the country throughout the year. There is even one each year in B.C.. The PSAMA club in the Seattle area puts on a great automotive model show each year in May. The show is located in Puyallup (Tacoma area). Goodguys has an event each year at the fairgrounds (also in Puyallup) usually in July, that features a model car contest. There is also a model car contest each Spring in the Everett area. If you fathom a bit of travel you can also venture down to Portland, which also has a few shows throughout the year. It's only about a 5 or 6 hour drive from where you are. -
Scale surf board????
1320wayne replied to cazxr2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I believe the Jo-han Rambler station wagon came with at least one surfboard, and decals to decorate it. One other venue that I found useful (and it was easy living on the coast) was a beachside gift shop that had airbrushed refrigerator magnets in the perfect scale. -
I was only there for about an hour and a half. Got there about 11:30am so there may well have been more entries placed on the table after I left. The venue was very nice. Seemed as if they had plenty of space in the room for all of the show tables as well as vendors. The attendance was down from IPMS shows earlier in the year, in regards to entries on the tables. I took about 260 photos whereas I have taken almost 450 photos on average at shows in Jax. and Cocoa Beach, earlier in the year. I hate to speculate on why but if someone were to ask me my opinion it would have to be due to their new choice of judging formats for this show.

Central Florida clubs or shows??
1320wayne replied to Doug McCabe's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
I can tell you that there are at least six or seven diehard builders here in the Volusia County area that would most likely be interested. Travel would definately be an issue in some cases so the day and time would be critical to drum up interest. -
I only have one body up shot of this car. From the picture it looks as iff the chassis was blue but a shade lighter than the body. And a shot of the restored car.

I just finished adding my photos last night. Here you go. http://public.fotki.com/1320wayne/model_shows/2010-shows/orlando-moldepalooz/

Great job so far Ron. Can't wait to see this one in person in Atlanta. What will be covering the tire tracks?
