  1. I forgot about Dirk's build. He did an excellent build up using the same resin body with a fuel injected engine combination. I also forgot that Don Fahrni did one as well. If I can find a picture I will add that one here also.
  2. Springs from old dried up ballpoint pens for coil over springs. The silver tapered cone shape from used up ballpoint pens for either exhaust tips or the ends of zoomie headers. Something already mentioned above but a different use. The wheels from Tek Dek skateboards for wheelie bar wheels for drag subjects.
  3. Yeah, I just got #153 today as well. The only problem is, I never received #152.
  4. I'm sure that there have been plenty of built pro stock trucks done since the class came to be although I can only recollect seeing two in print. One was a Dakota conversion that appeared in a model magazine a few years back and was featured as part of a review of the model contest held at the 1:1 Mopar Nationals. The other is pictured below. It is a phantom Grumpy's Toy build done by a builder in Arizona by the name of Dave Mauldin. The detail is second to none on this build and I believe it may have even been judged as best in show for the Copperstate Classic from the year of this photo, but don't quote me on that. I have seen plenty of projects in progress shown online but not a lot of finished pieces. I believe that there is only one existing resin body available and that is a Chevy S-10 from Comp Resins.
  5. Thanks for all of the great comments guys. I really appreciate it. It was a lot of fun but now I think I need to spend a little time building some out of box type kits before I decide to tackle the next heavy project.
  6. Absolutely amazing looking build. The graphics are just out of this world. The overall detail is superb.
  7. Mike Dowd, of Mikes Scale Speed Shop, might still have some of the JWTBM Miller Lite decals left for sale. Check with him.
  8. Wow, what a finish. Superb job indeed.
  9. Well, after 8 months (not counting the two months to create the body) this one is finally done. I say done, even though there are still a few things that I might go ahead and add to this in the near future. The glass work was not much fun at all. And , after all of this work, I decided to put myself behind the wheel. The build photos of this one are located over in the drag section, if interested.
  10. Well, the engine is done and ready to be installed. If I hadn't mentioned it before, the flex fan and distributor are both from Protech and are some of the best pieces that I have ever used.
  11. Nice build. Great work on the fade paint.
  12. Great site. The simplest way to resize an image, especially for anyone that has no graphics program is really easy. Save the image to your computer in a folder. Then, open Word and insert any image from your folders. Once the image is in the word document simply click on the image and it will highlight the image with a box around it. Place the cursor over any corner and drag the image to a smaller size. There is no technical form to properly resize to a certain dimension so you will have to play with this a bit to get just the right size you are looking for. Once you figure out the correct sizing you can continue to add more images to the same document until you have a full page of whatever you want. I have used this technique to create pages of license plates, posters for the walls of diorama buildings, contingency decals for race cars and many other types of images. It's easy and it's fun.
  13. I did a built up of the Revell Gene Snow Vega kit a number of years back, before I had a better focus on paint work and basic building skills. The shelf model has been sitting, collecting dust ever since, just waiting for me to re-do it. The chassis on this one is already done, and plenty good enough for a shelf model. I stripped the body and reprimed and repainted it. The kit gives you decals to do the 75 version with the red to blue fade paint job. In my wealth of research photos I have always seen pictures of the 74 car, which was all red. I chose to do this one, although there are currently no available decals for this car, which has the "Gene Snow" markings, along the side, done in a golden yellow paint scheme. I chose to proceed anyway and simply use the blue letters that are available on the Slixx sheet for the 75 Vega or Monza. This one has been sitting at the back of the workbench collecting dust just waiting to be completed. So, I spent the last few days, in my spare time, getting it finished. Nothing special. Simply an out of box shelf model. That's one more 70's era funny car to add to the shelf. So many more to go.
  14. Excellent paint work.
  15. Superb job. The finish is awesome.
  16. I made three in a row but unfortunately missed the last one and it sucked not being there. I definately plan on being there again next year.
  17. Sorry Tommy, but this is the kind of narrow minded, anti Christian thinking that has gotten this country into the position that it's in today. If you think that this is the way people will treat you if you look a certain way then you obviously feel the same way. And based on your comments about Middle Easterners in full Arab garb then I'd say that's pretty much true. People shouldn't think this way. It's called profiling and profiling is wrong. I have worked in retail loss prevention for over 15 years and one thing that I've learned is it doesn't matter how anyone is dressed. You never know what anyone is capable of, or not capable of for that matter, simply based on their appearance. I've had people rip off one of my stores and go out to the parking lot and climb behind the wheel of a Mercedes and drive away. I've also seen the most destitute looking individual come in and drop a couple of thousand dollars in one shot. You never know. It's peoples actions and behaviors that tip off what type of character they are, not how they look or how they dress. The person at this hobby shop is definately the type of person that is not long for his job if this is how he will treat customers.
  18. Well, I'm getting down to the smallest of details yet to get this one finished. The only major construction left is to scratchbuild the headers. You will see here that I have a mockup header done for the drivers side. When I do individual tubes I usually make a throw away set of headers in order to get all of the measurements and bends in the right places. They usually have flat spots or nicks from pliers or finger nails so even once I get the header done it can't be used. Once I get this done then I can create a good clean header without any of those issues. Both doors are hinged and working and I went down to the local Radio Shack and picked up two packages of "Rare Earth" magnets to insert into the door jambs to help the doors stay closed. This is the first time trying to use these and they work perfectly. The ones that I used are 3/16" in diameter and just fit inside the door jamb and door panel. They hold the doors in place when shut but aren't so strong that you can't get the doors back open. A pack of two magnets only costs $2. Now that they are in and working I can clean up the area and paint the door panels. I also finished the front suspension and added the fire extinguishers.
  19. I was talking to a fellow modeler the other day regarding clear bodied models that have been issued over the years and this one came up in the list and I mentioned that I had never seen one built. Now I can change that. Very nice job.
  20. From what I can see your chassis and suspension work look superb. The body is no slouch as well. If I may, my one and only suggestion would be is to add a little more of a wedge shape to the profile of your body by adding a tapered section of flat styrene to the lower rocker panels. It gives the body a more aggressive stance. That's just me. Either way it should look just fine.
  21. O.K., so the interior is done and the body has now been permanently attached along with the rear wing. The taillights have been painted along with the rear bumper. Now it's time to line up and hinge the doors. The drivers side door is done and working. I am definately in the home stretch at finishing this one now.
  22. So I guess if anyone is still looking for a Chrysler 300C and didn't get any when they first came out then they should simply wait for them to make it to the shelves of Big Lots, like the last batch ended up, for $5 bucks each. Seems like someone didn't do their research before coming up with this one as a reissue.
  23. I definately plan on trying to be a part of this. I think it's a great idea to get something organized around these parts. I was unable to even try and plan to make this meeting but with enough lead time maybe the next one. Any update as to how today went and how many people attended?
  24. Yeah, I guess it doesn't really matter about getting any votes. We all know that we had fun doing these builds and that's all that matters.
  25. Thanks for all of the compliments guys. It's always nice to hear that you may have inspired someone to do something although I feel like I am the inspired one with all of the great builders here on this forum.
