What's ur favourite build?
1320wayne replied to cazxr2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is a tough call as I take a lot of pride in almost everything that I build. There have been so many projects over the years that I have really been happy with. But, if I was only allowed to save just one build it would have to be this one. My Jeg's Pro Mod Mustang was a real joy to build and the pride that came out of it for so many reasons. It was my first scratchbuilt master that I did for a resin body. It was also my first attempt at working with a brass chassis. It wasn't the greatest of paint jobs as the Alps printed decals did not come out all that great, but I am still very pleased with this one overall. -
I found the perfect name and image for my entry online. I transferred it over to decal film and here it is. Now I can apply some clear, let it cure, and then rub it out and do some final assembly work. I've also created the markings for my pylon, which I will be working on while the clear coats set up.

What on earth IS this?
1320wayne replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Since there is so many differing opinions as to "how stupid" it is to shift an automatic transmission let me add in my two cents. I don't know much about Fords and Chevys but I can tell you about Mopars and what was popular back in the day (and maybe even today for that matter). If you wanted better performance from a torqueflite you simply swapped in a manual valve body into an automatic transmission. This required you having to shift through the gears. You couldn't avoid it. You were basically reversing the shift pattern where high was now low and low was high. It was a performance edge and really served no other purpose. It was primarily a drag racing application but could also be utilized on the street if wanted. It gave a definitive advantage to racing the four speed cars as you didn't have to coordinate your left foot with your right hand. -

The driver in this case is most likely doing four things. He/she is looking straight ahead, catching the shift light out of the corner of his eye and listening to and feeling what the car is doing on each pass. I doubt (as you have hinted towards) that he/she will have any time to look at the speedo.. -
Marty, here is what you need. Either the WJ kit decals or the Slixx sheet mentioned above. Those will give you the basics for completing this paint scheme. The other sheet you need is an older Slixx Nascar sheet, #9552/1092, which is for a Ken Schrader Lumina Nascar. The sheet comes with two large, white printed AC Delco logos for the side of the car and one smaller one, also in white, that can be used for the spoiler. Two things, though, you would have to add the blue overlap on each AC Delco decal with a marker or hand paint it and you will have to find another source for the hood decal. I do not know of any decal sheet from any form of racing that has that three part AC Delco logo that shows on the hood of this car. You could probably do an online search for a good one dimensional view of this logo and size it to fit the hood area and print it onto your own decal paper. If you want to attempt this and are in need of the decal that I mentioned let me know as I have a few extras.

WIP.....69 Daytona Pro Mod..Updated 10/28/10
1320wayne replied to 1320wayne's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Well, it's been more than a month but I've finally put some other temporary projects behind me and gotten back to this one. All of the graphics are in place on both sides and I was able to get back to the wheel tubs that are made from a combination of aluminum and styrene. Next is to add the carbon fiber decals and clear coat and they will be ready for install. -
I don't have any mirrors but the front bumper is yours. Send me a PM with your address and I will get it right out to you.

If you need any extra parts to replace anything broken or missing let me know. I have a few extra parts from a 78 that I am working on. They are: glass dash firewall radiator support and radiator grill front diamond plate bumper for mountable winch

Here's a little bit more of an update. I have added the red pinstripes for color separation as well as the no steps on the rudders and since the numbers I used came from a Monte Carlo Nascar sheet I figured the plane ought to carry GMAC sponsorship.

European " Lucas Oil " Top Fuel Dragster WIP
1320wayne replied to NitroJunky's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Good looking WIP. Love to see more people attempt more modern subjects. Can't wait to see more. -
Here is the beginning of the graphics. The red, white and blue flames decals are graphics found on the internet and transferred over to decal film. The numbers are from a 1/32 scale Slixx Nascar decal sheet. I am currently working on the graphics for the plane's name and will have that done shortly. There will be some added stripes to the color separation as well. Thanks for looking. Not too much time involved here but it's fun to do something outside the box and change the pace of all of the everyday projects that I have going.

You would think that being a British plane that I would be leaning that way, but I'm actually adding a U.S. flare to the paint scheme. I should have the graphics complete by the end of the weekend.

Nice progress so far. That color combination does work well.

Stellings and Hampshire C&T F/E dragster
1320wayne replied to Fuel Coupe's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Shane your work so far is stellar. Your metal work is both excellent and inspirational. I keep telling myself that I will one day attempt something like this on a vintage build. Can't wait to see more. -
Revell 1968 Hemi Dart - They're Finished
1320wayne replied to Len Carsner's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Very nice progress so far. Lots of great info. being shared by so many. I plan on picking up a few of these kits to do multiple versions, of old and new. If no one minds me adding on here I'd like to provide some inspiration. Plenty of doable paint schemes for both old and new versions of Hemi Darts. How about a Super Stock Dart with side pipes? -
Nice job so far, Bob. Those injection lines look great. That's one of the hardest parts to detail on a fuel motor and get them to look uniform. Great job.

Here are some progress shots of mine so far. Like I stated already, this is a rather crude resin cast kit from days of old so it doesn't look like much yet. The white base coat is in place. The cockpit canopy will eventually be sprayed a gloss black, as this will be a "slammer" style build. The canopy was so far out of plum on it's vacuforming that the only way to salvage it was to glue it in place and then sand it smooth to fit the sides of the fuselage. I have the lines drawn out already for the next color that will be added before the graphics. This one will be done with the landing gear up, flying around a pylon. I have the graphics planned out already but I'm still working on a name. To show my timeline on this one I snapped these pics. on the latest issue of Model Cars that I just received. More to come this weekend.

Revell 1968 Hemi Dart - First Look
1320wayne replied to Len Carsner's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
For those thinking about future projects for this kit, regarding racing subjects, decalsbylucas is a new decal site with some interesting subjects including a 68 Hemi Herb McCandless car and two different variations of the 68 Hemi Shirley Shahan cars as future decal sets. As well, and this one is a long shot, when Bad Habit Motorsports was around Kevin Ellis had a nice set of decals to do the modern Ray Barton orange Hemi Dart. Those decals may be very hard to find if anyone was lucky enough to get any sets before he dissappeared. Here is the link. http://decalsbylucas.com/ -
I've got two lined up for this. First is a 1/72 scale Spitfire. It's a rather crude resin kit from overseas that I could never forsee doing anything with until this idea. The second, although not the best choice for an air racer, is a Revell 1/48 scale P47D Thunderbolt. I have some really cool graphics planned for both. I will have pics. of the Spitfire sometime on Sunday.

This one looks good in black as well. Very nice. And, I almost forgot to welcome you to the forum. Thanks for showing off some of your builds.

Another nice build. I've seen a few Mercedes pro mods and they build up nicely this way.

Very nice build. Those decals look good on a black paint job.

I don't know if my testimonial will help or not. I picked up a roll as I was curious to see if their claims were justified. Now, I have only used it one time (see picture below) but I was very pleased with the results. My two concerns (when masking) are always whether or not there will be any bleedthrough and if the tape used for the masking will peel off any of base color as sometimes the knife cuts for the masking will cut into the base coat and cause this to happen. I am happy to say that neither happened. The paint that I used for what you see pictured here were both Acrylic Enamels. I know that a lot of people swear by the Tamiya masking tape and it's success but I have never tried it. I can tell you that so far I am happy with Frogtape and I will keep using it in the future.

I'm definately in on this as well. I am currently trying to weed through the best options that I have onhand to use. Most of my WWII kits are radial and wouldn't be the best choice for an air racer. I'm trying to figure out the best inline kit that I have.

That's a good looking build.
