  1. Yeah, a play by play. Not to brag or anything but I get to fall asleep with the sounds of the cars outside as I only live about a mile from the speedway.
  2. Great progress on this one Bob. Your finish is top notch. And although Dave is right about me having a pretty large reference library I don't think that I could do you much better than what was provided above. I can't wait to see more on this one.
  3. GSL is all about fun!!!!! Yes, like Dave, I too am competitive and that part of you wants to come out when you go there. But, you won't have much time to get wrapped up in that because of the astonishing builds that you will see, the amazingly friendly people you will meet and the overall atmosphere of a great time. I've been to three out of the last four events (unfortunately missing the last one due to tight finances)and I can't think of a better time that I've had at any model contest, let alone three of them. My first trip was taken with Bob Paeth. He was my mentor for the event (having been a fixture for so many in the past) and he introduced me to so many folks that I had spent years reading about in the mags.. It started with meeting this mountain of a man out in front of the host hotel after he exited a VW Jetta wagon that you would have thought there was no way that he could have fit. Bob introduced me to Mark Gustavson and he put his arm around me and welcomed me to the show as if I had been there many times in the past. What an experience. The next event I was lucky enough to spend it with my wife as she attended with me. And then the third trip was spent with Dave as we roomed together and had a great time with the whole event. It's all about the people and the experience as a whole. I have been to many shows around the country, and yes there are many great shows, but nothing compares to the experience that you get when you particpate at this one. The people, the builds, the facilities, the secenery, the seminars, the auction, the Sunday brunch, the museum, and did I say the people? An awesome spectacle to enjoy and I will be back for the next one. I hope that everyone who reads this post can get even just a little motivated from our words enough to decide that you must experience it for yourself, even if it's just once. But as Bob Paeth told me on our way to that first one that I attended, once you experience it just once you'll want to return every time thereafter.
  4. Here's my daily driver. A 2003 Dodge Durango SLT 4x4. It's sad to think though, that I had to climb a lighthouse just to get a picture of my truck. It's the only shot I have. The wife drives a 2001 Dodge Intrepid. Sorry no pictures. Nothing special to show off anyway. This used to be the fun project but controlling finances and buying a new house a while back neccesitated selling it off. It was a pro street 66 Valiant with a hopped up 440. It was more race car than street car which made it fun yet difficult to cruise in. Not much in the way of interior refinements so you couldn't carry on a conversation with the passenger because you couldn't hear them. Then there is the weekend fun machine. Kawasaki Prairie 650 4x4.
  5. Fantastic paint work Jim. This build is coming along quite nicely.
  6. As Davezinn stated above, the progress build was posted over on the SA board and it has been a work in progress for quite some time but as they say, "good things come to those who wait" and the finished product was well worth the wait. Awesome detail and clean scratchbuilding. Amazing from head to toe.
  7. I tried them all and Comfy is definately the easiest to view through, IMHO.
  8. Don't worry about the message. The company is under new ownership and is taking orders.
  9. I have used Alumilite resin for quite some time now and when I was new at the process and trying to figure out the mixing forumlas I had this happen as well. It is caused due to having the mixture off. I use a 1:1 mixture and it always comes out fine. Not enough of the part B will bring about a sticky pour.
  10. Very cool build. It looks right at home with the terrain in the background. I've had this kit for years sitting on the shelf and every once in a while I take it out and brainstorm what I'd do with it. Then I put it back away. One of these days it will be done.
  11. So much detail crammed into such a small diorama. Excellent work.
  12. Excellent piece. I don't know what's more interesting, the jet drive and engine detail or the seats. Very impressive.
  13. The only available solution are copies of the original kit decals. There were a couple of sellers on Ebay that were selling the old Billy Gooche line of decals, which is where I got my copy, so you could start by doing a search there.
  14. Those rear tires are actually the rear slicks from any Revell top fuel or funny car so it gives you a pretty good persepctive of just how small an Opel GT really is.
  15. This build was based on using an old Cheez Cast resin body of what was marketed, at the time, as an Opel Pro Mod body. The body doesn't quite suit itself for the pro mod ranks but better resembles something run in the sportsman categories, either Super Gas or Super Comp. The chassis was a cut down version from a Revell 55 Chevy pro sportsman kit. The rollcage was scratchbuilt using styrene tubing. The engine came from the Revell kit along with resin cast valve covers and Protech resin carbs.. The suspension pieces also came from the Revell 55 kit. The wheelie bars were scratchbuilt using aluminum tubing. The markings are strictly fictitious using a myriad of Slixx decals and Testors paint. The finish was covered with five coats of Duplicolor acrylic enamel clear and rubbed out. I am including a link to the build album for anyone wanting to see more photos. http://public.fotki.com/1320wayne/project-...artermilers--1/ Thanks for looking.
  16. Hey Lynn, I just saw this post and would love to help out for a bit tommorrow. I sent you a PM.
  17. This place is so entertaining. It's funny how so many of us suffer from A.D.D.. I mean, this post started out in one direction and now it's gone down a totally different path. I don't understand how............................................................................. ................................................................................ ................. ................................................................................ ................................................................................ .................. ................................................................................ ................................................................................ ................... Squirrel! ................................................................................ ................................................................................ ................................................................................ ................................................................................ ................................................................................ ................................................................................ ............................................................ I'm sorry, now where was I?
  18. The judges were Bob Robinson, local Portland builder with an incredible talent for building, Mike Carroll, the late Andy Kallen and Bob Paeth himself. I also believe that Jim Keeler was involved but I'm not sure. For that time you probably couldn't go wrong with that kind of talent base to determine your winers.
  19. Not many people realize but there is a kit version of the Chrysler small block 273. It's not neccessarily a Formula S motor but the stock engine in the Little Red Wagon kit replicates a 273 block.
  20. Or anyone else who can appreciate this style of building. This Thanksgiving weekend was the Turkey Rod Run, here in Daytona Beach. It is held at the speedway each holiday and continues to grow every year. Somewhere over 5,000 cars on site this year. I work in retail so it's nearly impossible for me to find any time to get away from my job to get to the speedway to check out all of the cars. But, there is a shopping center, on the beachside, that is right across from the events host hotel that packs in the cars all weekend long and it's not far from my job so I was able to get away for a lunch break and shoot a few pictures. O.k., the reason for the post was to show two very interesting vehicles on site. A variation on the rat rod theme. It's a rat rod VW, done up in what appears to be natural metal. The symetrical flames on the hood were amazing as they were done in rust. I'm still trying to figure that one out. The second vehicle is a rat rod style bus. I'm not sure where the body came from but the front end appears to be 32 Ford. Both were drawing lots of attention and it was very difficult to get close enough for photos.
  21. Very nicely done Shane. Hope that's a fancy shelf it sits on.
  22. I have used Michael's for a while now to find useable items for detailing and today I found something new that I am excited about. When you are making the A/N fittings for oil and fuel line detailing you will most likely have hard lines that come out of the engine part before you get to the fitting and the braided line. These hard line 90 degree and 45 degree bends are usually anodized along with the fittings. I've always used soft core solder to make these hard lines in the past. Well, today I found a new item. It is hard line wire that is already anodized in blue and red. It's flexible to create the bends that you need. It will save quite a bit of time at detailing engines from here on out. The red is 20 gauge and the blue is 18 gauge. They had other sizes, large and small but these were the two that I picked out this time. Each roll went for $2.99 a piece.
  23. Here is the link to my album with over 300 pictures from the show. Enjoy! http://public.fotki.com/1320wayne/model_sh...-south-atlanta/
  24. It was early 2004 for it's last reissue. I did a review build for "the other mag" when it came out. It was always a nice kit to build even though it had some finicky parts (like most of the Revell gasser style kits had) mainly with the opening doors and the tilting front clip. Otherwise a great kit with excellent detailing potential. Now we get it again with excellent decals.
  25. Wow!!!!!!!! I have seen the Tiki stencils before and I always wondered what you would ever use them for, until seeing this build. Now I know. This build is absolutely incredible. Your attention to detail and realism is incredible. As an added note, for anyone interested in finding cool surfboards. If you live near the beach where gift shops are plentiful, like I do, simply go looking for airbrushed, surfboard refrigerator magnets. They are usually the perfect size and already prepped to use with cool graphics.
