Hollywood Star Cars Museum(Gatlinburg Tn.)
1320wayne replied to samm1970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey Sam, here is a link to my photo album from when my wife and I stopped in Gatlinburg for the day as we were traveling across country from Oregon to Florida. It was a cool stop and not very pricey. This was about three years ago so I'm not sure if all of the cars are the same. http://public.fotki.com/1320wayne/museums/star-cars-museum-ga/ -
Pager motors are one of the best options for creating a spinning prop. on a plane kit. They are single speed but are usually the perfect size to conceal in the fuselage.

One that wasn't discussed, and maybe it never did make for a formidable racing component, was the P-40. It had an average top speed of 362 mph (based on 22,000 ft elevation testing) compared to the P-51 at an average of 430 mph based on the same guidelines. But for the sake of this challenge, a suitable option for someone like myself that simply loves the p-40 frame. I have built a few of these, over the years, with quite a few left to go. And for anyone, like myself, that appreciates the history behind these planes from WWII, there were some interesting stories behind certain actual planes from that time. Like this particular plane flown by Colonel Robert Baselar in the Pacific theater, with the 325th "Checkertail Clan". The plane had seen lots of heavy action and was torn up pretty good but since Colonel Baselar had made a name for himself as a quality pilot he was chosen for some PR duty to help boost support for the war effort back home. His plane was refurbished and repainted for PR use and even still saw some battle action after it's transformation. By today's standards it even has a bit of a rat rod/hot rod feel to it. Even though I can't hold a candle to any excellent plane builders I had a lot of fun building this one. I might just have to take one of my remaining P-40 kits and join in on this as it has been some time since I opened up a plane kit.

Very cool looking race car. It's got a bracket racer feel to it. Love the whole setup. Lots of good detail.

Purple Power - Where Can I Get It???
1320wayne replied to impcon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lowe's and Home Depot both carry the Purple Power. I get mine at Lowe's because I work there. I have been using Purple Power for a number of years now and I haven't had any less results from that as I did with the regular Castrol Super Clean. -

Gareth, if you are the same Nitrojunky on the classic funny car board I asked you to send me a pm with your email and I would email you the pdf of this process. -
WIP.....69 Daytona Pro Mod..Updated 10/28/10
1320wayne replied to 1320wayne's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks for the comments. I am using a Sony 8.5 megapixel Cyber Shot. I use the setting for the highest quality images. I am by no means an expert with the camera. I've had it for at least four years now and I know that there is probably so much more I could be doing with it to enhance the quality of the pictures. -
Not in prison--need plates
1320wayne replied to Bruce Poage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You can try this link. One whole page of legible, printable license plates. I believe that I founf it soemwhere else on this forum. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pernod/models/licenceplates.html -
John, very nice. I've seen this build before and I think that when you posted it elsewhere you mentioned the color that you used. I am curious what it is? Also, didn't you say you had some problems with this particular set of Slixx decals?

Another cool looking build. Very creative.

Joe Amato`s "Superman" T/F dragster

Very nice build John. Are those rear wheels machined? -
Unfortunately the decals were not scaled out perfectly so this was the only way that they would fit. The Arrow decal on the front passenger side was there originally but when I went to wash the body before clearcoating it decided to leave, and I didn't have a replacement.

How do you delete a double post?
1320wayne replied to 1320wayne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am not seeing any grey bar at the bottom of the page. -
Here are pics. of this completed build. This is a basic shelf build with adjustments made to the chassis to correct the ride height. The body is a resin piece from PDP as well as the decals.

WIP.....69 Daytona Pro Mod..Updated 10/28/10
1320wayne replied to 1320wayne's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Here is another mockup with the decals complete on one side. It's getting harder to get anything done as the heat index down here in FL has been murder over the last week or so. Even with an A/C unit in the garage it's hard to stay cool while you are working. -
Some added food for thought as a possibility. My father bought a rather large collection of unbuilt kits from a designer at Revell a number of years ago and there were a large number of kits that were molded in colors that were never released, or meant to be released in those colors. There was a S'cool Bus (Monogram kit) that was molded in orange. A 1/16th funny car kit that the body was molded in a blue and white marbled pattern. There were plenty of others with different colors. That would be something to consider as I'm sure other manufacturers possibly had the same thing happen.

Very cool John. Out of all of your older builds that I have seen in the past this isn't one of them. Great job!

WIP.....69 Daytona Pro Mod..Updated 10/28/10

The graphics are really starting to take shape. I roughed up the aluminum just a bit before adding the panel lines just to make it look slightly weathered. -
CHALLENGE to Jairus, Harry and whoever
1320wayne replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You made a statement about the new Charger had better have improved performance numbers over the 68 version insinuating that it doesn't. That is what I was disagreeing with. If that wasn't your point then I simply misunderstood. Granted, there really is no comparison between the two and if I had my choice between owning either or there would be no question. But I feel that the new Charger could outperform a 68 model in so many ways. And that is simply my opinion as I am no expert on the matter. -

1320wayne replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just to clarify, I didn't miss Harry's point. I simply disagreed with them. There's a difference. -
If you've been around drag racing all of your life then you would have read the original post and known what he was referring to. If not, then it's easy to see where the miscommunication was. Old Coyote would be the best point of reference to ask of this question as he is the authority on vintage drag racing. I wasn't around until 67 so I missed the real early days so I couldn't tell you with any certainty.

Dave, that is some stellar work you've got going on. I've always liked the look of a white car with blue rally stripes. Really makes it jump out at you. I'm sure the finished piece will be up to your normal, insanely phenomenal standards. Hope to see it in person real soon.

CHALLENGE to Jairus, Harry and whoever
1320wayne replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know, I can appreciate the fact that so many car enthusiasts today are looking at the nameplates of days gone by with a retro feel in mind. It's a great concept and helps to sell some of the top makes today. But, not everything with an older namesake has to be based on a retro look. The Charger name has taken on many different shapes over the years. It has morphed into many different styles over the years. Some good, 66-74; some not so good, 75-77, 83. So many people were disappointed when this new bodystyle was introduced because it didn't resemble something from the past. But that's obviously not what Chrysler was after. They came out with a totally new style, love it or hate it, that has become very popular with today's auto enthusiast. It is one of the top selling cars on the market today. Harry, you say that a new Charger better perform better than a 68? I tell you what. You take your 68 Hemi Charger and pit it up against my modern day police interceptor Charger and we see who runs away from who. Afterall, there has to be a reason why most mainstream police forces are running around in all of those new Chargers today. I feel that this body style has one of those looks that when you first see it, it's not the best looking car you've ever seen, but after a while it tends to grow on you. It's kind of like when the new Dodge Ram pickup body style came out in early 90's. It's one of those looks that has to age a bit and then look out as it becomes one of the best known styles in the history of the nameplate. That is my two cents on the matter.
