WIP.....69 Daytona Pro Mod..Updated 10/28/10
1320wayne replied to 1320wayne's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Here's just a bit more. Another quick mockup to see how the body in color will look. The engine is really starting to take shape. I've started adding the fuel and oil lines. All of the bolthead detail on the valve covers is done. -
That is just simply incredible work.

So, I finally decided to get to work on the body as I got tired of looking at a body in primer. I cut out the doors and prepped the body for paint. Applied the aluminum followed by masking, cutting and painting the Limefire Green color coat. This is a Dupli-color engine enamel. It's not as neon as it might look in the pictures as the flash added some of that effect. This is just in the rough stages still as I have to wait a couple of days and then wet sand any masking edges left behind and then start outlining and adding shadowing to create a three dimensional effect of the color coat being peeled away. Then I can start on the decaling process. The rear of the body will have a black Daytona wraparound stripe and the spoiler will also be black. -
That is looking great Charlie. You're clean detail work is superb.

Very nice build. Finish work looks great.

Very cool. That is some stellar body work and the chassis build in slouch either. Can't wait to see more.

Hobby Lobby- Lots of Clearance Model Kits!
1320wayne replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've only been into one HL store within the last few years, simply because we haven't had any around here. But, I pulled into a local shopping plaza last week and low and behold a banner now hangs from a store that was just vacated and that banner says....coming soon, Hobby Lobby. So, we are finally getting one. It will probably be a couple of months before it's opened and ready to accept my hard earned money. -
That looks great Chuck. I just hooked up with Chuck Boerner on the classic funny car board and learned of his decaling talents. I am looking at getting some of his decals. How well did they go on?

PERFECT....OR NOT?????
1320wayne replied to Peter Lombardo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The "Human Factor" is part of, or should remain part of all sports, for the most part. It's part of what makes the game what it is. The "electronic strike zone" would be the worst mistake baseball could ever make. Having different umpires, with different perspectives on what constitutes a strike is again, part of the game. That should never change. That being said, an umpires call is final. Right or wrong! The call in last nights game was a travesty from the standpoint that a "Perfect Game" is a milestone that only so many players can lay claim to in the history of baseball. So that bad call is proportionally larger than if it had just come down to the last out in any other regular game. Be that may, major league baseball can not change their rules, for any reason, especially because the outcome was so important. If they were to reverse the call just so this pitcher could receive his justly deserved perfect game then they would be opening themselves up to have to reverse other bad calls down the road. Two things should be observed from this incident though. First, the umpire coming forward and openly admitting that he blew the call and apologizing for it. Secondly, that Gallaraga has absolutely no bitterness towards the umpire at all and is handling the situation with a positive attitude. Both people are to be commended as to how they are accepting the situation after the fact. You know, I once read in a book about Pete Rose that he stated that during a game he was trying to stretch a single into a double and used his textbook headfirst slide into second to beat the throw. He was clearly safe but the umpire called him out. Pete got up and tried to argue the call with the ump.. The umpire looked him straight in the eye and said to him, "Pete, you know you were safe, I know you were safe, but 50,000 people just saw me call you out, so you're out!" Pete said, how can you argue with logic like that and turned and walked back to the dugout. -
Very nice build. Great extra detail added.

WIP......Prudhomme 72 Hot Wheels Cuda

Here's a few more pics. with all of the decals in place. I went searching through the decal spares box and found a couple of red graphics for the rocker panels. These decals went on so smooth. -

Ben, the source of these decals, unfortunately for others, wishes to remain anonymous. This person even had reservations of making this set for me as they were not prepared to mass market their talents. What you see in these pictures is all vinyl, with the rest of the decals being waterslide. The cost factor for doing it this way can become a bit pricey. The set was designed for a 1320 diecast body, and yes it does come with the grill and taillights decals but for this body they are slightly too narrow so I have to make some adjustments to make them work. The Mongoose decals that you speak of are available through Slixx. -
What's modeling life without numerous projects going at the same time. While the Daytona pro mod is still active on the workbench I had to get started on this one as I just got the decals custom made and I have been waiting to be able to attempt this car for many years. The resin body is from an unknown source. Whoever produced it is very good quality. The chassis you see in the pics. is strictly a donor chassis for the mockup stages. There will be a totally different chassis built for this build. The body was done up in Krylon white followed by the custom made decals. This is where I am at so far.

Here is another mockup picture to check that everything clears where it should. The bellhousing and Lenco is installed along with the added bolt heads for the floor sheet metal panels. I have also started on the sheet metal dash. -

Here are some new updates. I went ahead and rebuilt the magneto as the first one I did was too small and I wasn't happy with it. The Lenco and bellhousing is complete and ready for assembly into the chassis. I added bolt head details as well as photo etch linkage for the reverser. I might have to re-do the push buttons as they are very fragile and have broken off multiple times already. I was also able to get the center floorboard piece in place for the interior. -
Very sharp build. It looks perfect for the time.

Here is a quickie build that I did. It's an AMT Dodge Ram Dually pickup done as a curbside. It has added parts box wheels and parts box decals with an added styrene tonneau cover with a decal from a Slixx funny car sheet.

Click on the link provided. Halfway down the page you will see a black and white photo of Leal kneeling by his T-bolt. This car, with the California Flash text on the side, was the black car. The car did exist. I have seen photos of it in color but have no idea where that may be at this time. If I stumble across any in color I will let you know. It's pretty simple to replicate as the car was all black with the chrome trim. The wheel combination was the same as the maroon car. Five spokes up front and black steelies out back. http://www.butchleal.com/history2.html

Progress looks good. Can't wait to see more.

Surgical tape painted flat black. I cut it into different segments to get the pieces where they needed to be. -

Well, the carbon fiber decaling has been fighting me every step of the way to get it to lay down just right over the primered aluminum sheet but I was finally able to make some progress and get the first few sheets done and attached. There will be bolthead details added as well. I was also able to get started working on the wheel tubs, also made from aluminum and a bit of thin styrene. -
Parts that go MIA!!
1320wayne replied to tuffone20's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's one for you. I lost a part some time back, under my workbench in the garage. Two days ago I was cleaning the garage and organizing it for better use of space. I was sweeping the dirt and debris out into the driveway. As I'm getting ready for the next sweep of the broom I look down and there it is, the part that I lost a while back. But, what my eyes saw wasn't quick enough to register in my brain to tell myself to stop the sweeping motion and as luck would have it the part is now somewhere in the front lawn. -

That is almost exactly what you said it was. This is a photo etch bracket for applying the holddown straps for both the blower and the blower hat. It comes in a blower detail set from Model Car Garage. -

Well, since I'm on vacation I figured that I could spend some quality time at the workbench and get some more progress completed. Updates to the engine include the fuel pump and fittings, blower belt, blower hat and oil pump. The front spindles and springs are all attached as well.
