  1. Personally, I'd use a piece of styrene about the same size and put the decal on that instead of using the paper backing.
  2. I've been using the "One Coat" paints for a while. Duplicolor primers work really well, as do the Testors Lacquer primers. I also recommend their "Wet Look Clear".
  3. Born in 1970. Gotta say the GM A-bodies (Buick Skylark, Chevy Chevelle, Pontiac Tempest, Olds Cutlass)
  4. Awww.... no Cadillac V-12? This looks really great. That would make a wicked race car.
  5. I'm getting ready to build a model of my first car. I'm researching a lot for this one, pictures of details I can only vaguely remember. The car was kind of a hodge-podge of parts, so I'll have to do some heavy modification to get it to look right. I'm not planning on any major weathering, more planning to make the car what I always wished it could be. It's difficult finding pictures of some of the details, like the steering wheel, interior, hood, front and rear bumpers, etc.
  6. How about the current Xb and XD from Scion? I liked the original Xb, but once they stretched it and changed the nose it wasn't cute and boxy anymore. The XD was always hideous. What they did to the Xb is actually why I like the Nissan Cube. Never really had a problem with the Lincoln Town Car. I do have issue with the MKX. It's a Ford Edge with some extra chrome, but little else to make it stylistically different from the Edge. Not impressed. I do like the MKZ.
  7. I've been to the Packard museum. My wife and I went a couple of years ago. It's really fantastic. The cars are all beautiful. I used to have really good pictures until my last camera was stolen, but I've got one...
  8. Overall, it's not a bad design. There are some elements I would've done differently. It looks like there's about a foot of extra space on the nose, looking at the gaps between the engine and firewall and the engine and grille. I would have tightened those up. And it seems the frame is almost too flat, there's no curve to it at all. It gives the car a stance like a lawn tractor. The grille is just someone's attempt at a Model T-type radiator. But the main thing is that if it makes the owner happy, then it's perfect.
  9. For my birthday, a couple of my dearest friends gave me a $20 gift certificate for a local hobby shop. I went there today and got a Revell 2006 Dodge Magnum SRT8 and only paid about $2 out of pocket. It was a good birthday.
  10. Got some money for my birthday this past weekend and went hobby shopping today. I got: Tamiya Nissan 300ZX Turbo Tamiya Mini Cooper Racing Monogram 70 Buick GSX AMT 69 Chevy Corvair Plus 2 packs of BMF, a vinyl top kit and a bottle of Ceramite white paint. It was a good day.
  11. I'll definitely watch this one. I'm just finishing up the Supra kit from this line. I'll have to post pics.
  12. I know this is probably a stupid question, but looking at the parts, is this a new tool? It looks fantastic.
  13. That's gorgeous. I love the paint job!
  14. Just got this one in yesterday. I remember this one being a fun and detailed kit. I hope my memory serves me correctly.
  15. I haven't had one really fight me yet. I figure I'll probably have one before too long. Right now I've got a Jo-Han 1970 olds in the dip, that might be the one. I've noticed the plastic is awfully brittle.
  16. Check Hobby Lobby or Michael's if you've got one nearby. Michael's usually has the black flocking, and HL recently started carrying black embossing powder which is even better.
  17. Neat custom work, there. Is it gonna be a V8 or V12?
  18. My all time favorite would have to have been Hobbyland in Proctorville, OH. One of my friends and I used to make treks there from Portsmouth every weekend. They had everything you can imagine. RC, Models, scale railroading, etc.
  19. Very nice build.
  20. The Europa always looks to me like they stuck the nose of a Dino onto a ute rear end. I'd definitely have to remake the top if I get one of these.
  21. Had that happen twice recently. First with my F&F Supra, missing the lower gravel shield and top suspension mounts. Took me forever to find a cheap enough gluebomb for the replacement piece. And the 2007 Charger police cruiser had all the clear pieces missing for the light bars sometime between when I got it and when I went to put it together.
  22. I did the panel lines on my police Charger with a grey brush pen over the white paint. just wipe off the excess and it looks awesome.
  23. I think this is why I haven't bothered with any contests yet. I build for me, mostly. If the guys at the model car club like them too, great. I'm really not interested in taking home awards. But each build gets a little better than the last, and I always try new stuff on each one, so maybe one day I'll try a contest.
