  1. If you have never built a Tamiya model...get one. I can only speak about the F1 models, 1/20 and 1/12. Well worth the price...both in finished product and pleasure to build. The fit is fantastic.
  2. WOW....now that is a compliment. Thank you much.
  3. Hope others will post thier F1 cars
  4. I love F1. Have built a few of Tamiya's 1/12 kits and 1 of Entex 1/8. I will post so your cars have some company.
  5. Some hardware stores will have a selection of very small springs. I live in a small town, went into what used to be a "Western Auto" store and found a wide assortment of small springs. I brought with me the shocks for a '85 1/8 vette and found what I needed to make coil overs. I even found one to use for a return spring on my injector linkage. I am building it with a Potvin blower setup like on the "Mooneyes" FED.
  6. So, you coat the chrome with straight Future and do not scrape it before glueing. I am guessing you do scrape the painted surface? Or, do you coat that with straight Future also? Thanks for the help. I don't mean to sound so stupid but I have never used Future before. I am trying to take my models up a step. I am recently retired (63 years old) and finally have lots and lots of time to work on models. My builds are almost all exclusively "Box Stock". I am currently working on a Tamiya F1 1/20 Williams with a clear body, a 1/16 Tommy Ivo FED, a 1/8 85 Vette, and a wooden surfboard that I will use with a 55 Nomad. I am so happy I found this site. It is rrealy great..and very helpful. You guys do some amazing stuff.
  7. No prob...I appreciate the help..I know I will probably regret it, but, I just gotta try it anyway..as they say: SEEING IS BELIEVING I have some jack stand type things for my Tamiya Williams FW24 to try it on..no big loss if it does not come out good. Thanks all, will update as I progress
  8. I just got my first bottle of Pledge with Future. I saw a video on Youtube where a guy let some set in an uncovered container for about two weeks. It reduces down to a honey like liquid which he calls Future Glue. He said he uses it to glue chrome to paint without scraping the areas. Like install a grille or windshield. Sounds too good to be true but I will try it. He did say it was not as good as glue for holding but good enough if you don't handle it too rough or knock it etc. I can live with that. My question is: Anyone try using Future as a clear coat over Alclad Chrome? I hope to try it in the coming weeks and will post results here.
  9. Really enjoyed the race. Massa is my man..they sure screwed him bigtime..but he did greattttt.
  10. I agree with Wayne..if not for Nub's painting, I would have quit watching long ago. And Jr's bikes with all the crazy exhausts? No way. As far as Mikey, well, no comment. They need to bring back Biker Build Off. That was cool. Anybody know if Billy Lane is still in jail?
  11. Ya know..sometimes, even new paints need to be stirred a lot. I use those little flat wood stirrers. Break them in half, you don't need a long stirrer. Sometimes must add a bit of thinner also. Don't be concerned if they separate in the bottle. I lost interest a while back (2-3 years ago) but am back into it now that I retired. I have paints that are years old and they still work fine. Like you said though, a bit of stirring is required. Good luck.
  12. I only use a credit card and only over the phone. Good Luck and keep us posted please.
  13. I have been a F1 fan for many years (1980) or so..My wife and I went to the first three F1 races at Indy (Stayed in a flea bag hotel right across the street, saw it on COPS one night)..I hope F1 can make a go of it this time. I have a friend 40 miles from Austin, think I will go for a visit next year. Have built several of the TAMIYA 1/20 scale F1 cars, two of the 1/12 cars and have 2 more 1/12 and about 8 more 1/20 to build. Working on the clear body version of Montoya's Williams as we speak. Lee, I hope you go. The sound of these cars is remarkable and the colors on these cars are so vivid. Have a good time and please give us a report
  14. Question: Do the judges pick up a model to look under it or open the hood, etc? Or do they just judge it as displayed?
  15. Thanks for the nice words.
  16. Just about done. Needs clear coat and may have to mess with motor mounting..it ended up a bit low in chassis. Out of the box except wheels and plug wires. Should have used red, black or blue wires And..here is my next build- Tamiya's Williams F1- with a clear body. Thinking about painting one side and leave other clear. My favorite driver too...Montoya.
  17. John, The build looks great and shows great talent. I build for me, not accuracy. I just want it lookin good man. You have helped me already in my build of a 1/8 85 Corvette..I am going a bit out the box on this one.Especially for me. Keep the pics coming please.
  18. I built several of these. All are great. Go slow, follow the instructions and watch the glue. Tamiya kits fit is excellent. The first one was bought at ToysRus. I got maybe half way through and went back to buy one of each. Hope you enjoy your builds , I did.
  19. You can test it on a white plastic spoon and see what happens.
  20. Mine are 100% box stock. Both of them. I did not even paint the Ferrari red...LOL On the other one, Tamiya had the proper lines for tape off molded in the body already. Expensive but worth every penny.
  21. I have built 2 of these. Great parts fit so be careful with glue. I have 2 more to build.
