  1. Well...it does look like a Dragster...sort of
  2. Beautiful. What did you use for the white??
  3. R.A. Salvatore has a long series of books involving a dark elve named "DRIZZT", with a magical black panther. Great fantasy reading. The first six "TARZAN" novels are great. I have read several books on drivers, BILL ELLIOTT, TONY STEWART, DON GARDLETS, DARRELL WALTRIP, DALE SR, all good. If you like jet fighters, DALE BROWN. And , of course, "MODEL CARS!"
  4. 1/16 and 1/8 are the greatest no matter the cost...within reason, lol
  5. I know a lot of you will say "SO WHAT?". But i still enjoy the builds, especially the painting parts. And I agree that most of the show is just plain rediculous...but, I can't help myself. The commercial has a bike under a cover and says this is where it all began and they are going to rebuild it. I think it is "OLE SUNSHINE", Paul senior's first bike. Any other guesses? I saw the commercial as I was watching the Belgium Formula 1 race. Now, that start, talk a mess. Cars "FLYING" all over. I am sure this will get a lot hate mail, so to speak...LOL
  6. Perhaps we should ask "Dr.Who"
  7. Try this youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfnzgPU28aQ Supposedly how they created the movie car-regardless- a good video
  8. I love this. Any idea where I can get one? Is it in hobby stores? Very similar to my all time favorite internet model pic below. Would so love to build one.
  9. I usually watch these shows with no volume. I am certainly more interested in the building..and most of all..the painting. I do actually enjoy the show on speed called "Gearz". Lots of good products too. Here is a great idea: Lonewolf and Dr. Cranky doing a show on model building.
  10. built one straight out of box-nothing fancy but nice disply
  11. Thanks guys. I plan on using the extra engine and potvin blower setup in a 1/8 85 corvette.
  12. Good Kit..built mine mostly box stock
  13. If you like the "LORD OF THE RINGS" movies, you may enjoy the "Forgotten Realms" series by R.A.Salvatore about the Dark Elve "DRIZZT". I am reading the entire series again as I wait for the next book to come out. If you enjoyed "TOP GUN" and other jet movies, you would most likely enjoy any of the DALE BROWN books. He is retired air force and his books are exciting. Not to be confused with DAN BROWN that did the DeVinci Code books. Different author. If you are a longtime "TARSAN" fan, the first 6 orignal books are great. Also, I have read the books on: TV Tommy Ivo, Tony Stewart, Bill Elliott, Don Garlets, Dale Sr., DW. All very interesting, especially the ways the NASCAR boys found to get around the rules. Best of all, Bill Elliotts fabulous Thunderbird that he made up 2 laps under racing at Daytona was actually 2 inches more narrow than other cars. Lots of good stuff out there.
  14. I use and old empty paint bottle of the same size. I fill it up with thinner and use that amount to rinse out the actual paint bottle. I get as much paint out as possible, use half the thinner to get the residue out then the other half to finnish it of. If you going one to one or two to one, whatever..seems very accurate to me. Hope this lo-tec method helps.
  15. Do you need to sand it? I would not sand it just to sand it because it is one of the steps. If you don't have orange peel or specs of dust or anything like that, why sand it at all. I am certainly no master of the airbrush but have seldom if ever sanded after painting, and I am satisfied with the results. Sounds like you are impressed already with the finish. Plus, I think black is one of the harder colors to get good results. I know that when I wet sand primer for the last time, I start with a fine fine sandpaper and go courser if needed then work up again to a finer grit. Good luck. Hope to see the pics soon. What car is it?
  16. Anything special needed on the fan, like explosion proof or anything else? I want to build one also. Looks like they are set up in the house. No fume problems in other rooms?
  17. I collect my wife's empty water bottles, I prefer the smaller ones. I let them air dry completely. A day or two later, I peel off the labels, grab rubber or latex gloves, grab a bottle and my spray can. I take this outside and just spray the paint into the clean dry water bottle. Really not that messy unless your hands shake, LOL. Very easy to get it all in the bottle and not all over the outside. I then keep an eye on the bottle and remove the lid every so often to let the gas out. I hardly ever use anymore thinner. Cheap and effective I think. Plus, you can see what color the left over paint is without having to mark it. It will keep for quite some time also. I made the mistake of trying to spray directly into my airbrush cup...but only once. Have not tried the straw ideas, looks good though. I do wait until the paint has gassed out before using it with my airbrush. For clean up, throw the gloves and empty paint can away.
  18. I am surprised no one has mentioned the heart throb of all us older guys....Annette F. Does anyone remember ever seeing her bellybutton? Youtube has several clips..just type in BIKINI BEACH 1964
  19. BEWARE "THE FINGER"
  20. The book is: "TV" Tommy Ivo: Drag Racing's Master Showman The cover shows him doing a fire burnout in a rear engine dragster. I picked up mine at a "Books-A-Million" in the "Transportation" area. Just ask at the info counter. Although it does have a lot of pictures, don't buy it just as a reference book. You will be disappointed. Buy it to read and use what pictures it does have. As I recall, it does show every car he was involved in, from his first hot rod to his last funny car. Dang...I think I will read mine again...LOL Enjoy it...he was one of a kind.
  21. Yes.."TV" Tommy Ivo had a few of his cars in this movie. I would like to reccommend the Tommy Ivo book. Seems he was quite the innovater. According to the book: 1. He was the first to actually make a living off drag racing. 2. Built his own cars. Including his twin and four engine dragters. 3. Was quite the jokester. 4. Don "The Snake" Prudehomme used to paint his cars. The Snake got his first dragster from Tommy. Is really a good read. If you like drag racing, you will like this book. It also has everyone of his cars, year by year.
