  1. ah ha image code edit it worked (this time at least) LOL Thanks so much
  2. My Bad I went back to look at the other build that someone sent me a link too. 3/16, 1/16, 5/32.
  3. OK. Thanks for the advice....If I go with brass, what size? Someone else mentioned 3/16". Would Aluminum be just as good? In the pics, it looks like you solder this. Same as wire..heat the wire until the solder melts when it touches the wire? Or, melt the solder straight onto the tubing? Electric gun or some sort or device that uses fire? Is there a "How To" here in this forum? Man, Thanks for all the help. David
  4. Tried both. When I try to load a picture I get errors The link seems to work, but, I think others prefer to see the picture. I know I do.
  5. Thanks for the replies. Actually,it will be more of a drag inspired street/show car. Supercharger etc. I built the old Lindburg 1/8 Exterminator Front engine dragster as a single engine dragster. So, I have the leftover motor and parts, I think it even has a front mount type supercharger. I really like the Corvette kit rear suspension so I plan to use it and most likely the front also. Probably a mostly stock looking interior with a right had drive if I can get it right. I have almost three complete old kits to work with. I played with some 3/16 tubing and rods, but it looks a bit small to me. I plan to use styrene, not brass or aluminum tubing. My Christmas present will be a shopping spree at "HOBBYTOWNE" in Baton Rouge, La. they have a fair supply of Evergreen stuff. I may have to order what I need afterwards. i am working on a list...LOL. I hope to fabricate a '63 split window type roof line, widen the fenders, add spoilers, etc. several paint schemes bouncing around in my head. This will be my most abitious build yet and will take a long time I am sure. Thanks for the help. I will be taking pics for those interested, but, that may be a while. I am spending an awful lot of time of my 1/16 Tommy Ivo FED I plan to try to paint the oragne panels panels and pinstripe instead of using the Slixx decals I have. But, I may have to use them if my plan fails. Thanks all.
  6. Thanks Here is my box of parts..LOL http://public.fotki.com/davidchampagne/18-corvette-project/
  7. I am sure this has been answered numerous times here but I am unable to find the posts. I am beginning a 1/8 scale '85 Corvette. I will be testing my skills to new limits as I have always just built straight out the box. This time, I want to try scratch building a frame. Will do some serious body mods and hopefully a great paint job. What sizes plastics tubing or rod should i use for the frame? I am trying to decide a paint scheme like the old Corvette GTP or Don Gays Rainbow Firebird. The car will be a drag type car. David
  8. Wanted one of the real ones since I first saw one in high school..1968 +/- Great job
  9. This is beyond cool. You have great vision. I have seen kits like this and just blew past them. Thanks for opening my eyes. I think this is a big part of what this site is all about. Can't wait to see finished product.
  10. Scale-Master, They look great. I have the transparent version of the Willams to build. Thinking about painting one side, leaving other side clear. Built a 1/20 Tyrrell 6 wheeler. Have the 1/12 version to build. Have the 1/12 Maclaren also. I also have about 8 or so more F1 kits and 3 Ferrari street cars to build, all Tamiya. Dang, I need to finish my 1/16 Tommy Ivo dragster and get back to my F1 cars. One question though- I only buy the Tamiya F1 kits. Fortunately, I have a good job and great wife so the price of these kits has never been an issue. Are there other kits of similiar quality out there? I am reposting links to my F1 builds. These are more 1/12 and 1/8 builds: http://s1103.photobucket.com/albums/g473/davidchampagne/F1/ My 1/20 builds: http://s1103.photobucket.com/albums/g473/davidchampagne/More%20F1/ Edward, try the build yourself..you may be surprised. Dave
  11. Well Edward, Seems you got quite a thread started here. Pity it is more about F1 than the actual models. I am enjoying the pics from Darin and Marcos. I have several more Tamiya kits to build. 2 in the 1/12 scale. Pricely but good stuff. Hope this thread lasts until I start them Have you decided on a kit? Hope you will post. Good luck. Dave
  12. What scale are you building?
  13. I started the 1/12 Tyrrell 6 wheeler a few years back. Then put it back in the box. This thread has me wanting to get back to it. Thanks everybody...I knew there were F1 builders out there.
  14. Hey Matt, Where you from. La.? I am in Lockport. Is it the picture ? Looks more like LSU colors!
  15. Edward Here are my F1 models Hope you enjoy. http://s1103.photobucket.com/albums/g473/davidchampagne/More%20F1/ http://s1103.photobucket.com/albums/g473/davidchampagne/F1/
  16. Edward, I am also surprised at the small amount of F1 cars here. I have followed F1 since the days when almost every team was running a FORD Cosworth engine. F1 is not so big here in the U.S. I guess because there is no U.S. team. Not even a U.S. driver. Austin, Texas is building a track for F1 and New Jersey is trying to get a race also. From what I have been reading, the Austin race may not happen because of money. My wife and I made the first 3 F1 races at the Indianapolis Raceway. It was awesome. But, that too did not last. I have several F1 models built. All are TAMIYA. I could not believe how much more expensive they were when I first noticed them at a "TOYS R US", but, I bought one anyway. Half way through that first build, I went back and bought several more, like 7 or 8. I have also built some on the 1/12 TAMIYA F1 cars and still have two more to work on. There is a very good reason they are so costly. QUALITY. The fit is almost always perfect and the details are great. The instructions even tell you each and every color to use where for detail painting. In my opinion, well worth the money. I am trying to set up a Photobucket account to put my pics in. Oh, by the way, as I said, I have two more 1/12 scale TAMIYAs to build and I think 8 more 1/20. Check back soon. I may have my pics posted.
  17. You will most likely never get a perfect model in your own eyes. You will always know what is wrong. My models come out pretty good, in my eyes. My wife and others always tell me they look as good as ones in magazines. I highly disagree. I consider myself pretty fair at box stock or kit bashing as long as I stay with plastic. I am not good at all with Photo Edge and find resin difficult. I am just now starting to experiment with scratch building. It sounds like I am putting myself down, but I'm not. I have a couple of suggestions for you: 1. If you can afford it, get an air compressor and good airbrush. You will be amazed at how much better your paint jobs come out. 2. Look into some TAMIYA kits. They are more expensive, yes, for a very good reason. HIGH QUALITY. Things fit like they should and requires a minimal amount of glue. They will usually come out good. I am working on a 1/16 Tommy Ivo front engine dragster. I have already spent numerous hours on just getting the body panels straight. Some things just take time. Do not compare yourself to what see other guys here doing. They are amazing. If you do, you will most likely give up. But, you can learn from these builders. It should be fun after all. There is something special about seeing something you just finished building. After that, you have to keep dusting it...LOL Good Luck
  18. Do you read R.A. Salvatore's books about the character Drizzt and his magic black panther?? You may enjoy it.
  19. The first "Cannonball Run" "Vanishing Point"
  20. Please...keep "Show Boating" ! This stuff is amazing and helps generate ideas to others. Beautiful
  21. So glad to see the that Gold paint go on. This is probably one of my all time top 5 cars. Of course, another is the Munster's Coach. Great job, anxious to see finished job.
  22. I built one Box Stock and painted it to match my 84 vette. The kit is a 85. It is in my closet someplace as well as a punch of extras I got from ebay. I have parts left over from a Lindberg !/8 dragster set I plan to use and try some major body customizing. But the kit is easy to build.
  23. I have played with my new Dremel and extension a bit. The handle on the extension is small and palm size. Hope I can explain this correctly: the extension is just a bit awkward due to the stiffness of the extension. I can't say if it is better than a real small Dremel type tool, but it is easier than a regular Dremel. I realy like it. Like anything else, it is good for some things, maybe not for others. I think it is well worth the $30 though.
  24. I just bought a new Dremel, Model 4000 I think. It was the most exspensive Wal-Mart had, I think about $70. Then, I bought the flexible extension ($30) which has a nice small handle. Not used it yet but I think it is going to work nice. I know this set up and the stainless steel wire brush is great for cleaning up the spokes on my Harley.
