What do you drive?
DavidChampagne replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We have a COBRA kit car for special occasions, (going to the "FROSTOP" for a burger and root beer). The kit is from "Classic Roadsters", South Dakota. It has a 351 Winsor (400 hp??). Five speed. Ford 9 inch. I bought it already assembled. I am actually the third owner. Replaced the brakes with a set from "Stainless Steel Brakes". -
Very nice. One of my all time favorite cars.
-
Thank you Kevin. Actually, I had covered it in Gold Bare Metal Foil. But I lost patience on a couple spots, etc . The gold is Tester's little bottle with their airbrush thinner. 1:1. The trim work was done with Tamiya's clears: Orange and Yellow mix.

Jason, you should be able to get one at Hobby Lobby if you want one. Don't forget to bring a 40% discount coupon. Thanks Scott and Harry. Thought I had a duplicate set of chrome from my "ED ROTH's OUTLAW" kit somewhere and planned to use those. Can't find them. Been seeing posts here and there about scratch building wire wheels. Been wanting to try using some fishing line for the spokes. Will have to give this some thought.
-
Yep,,,just one piece wheels for the front. Just returned from checking the instruction sheet. Can't find my stash of left over parts...I fear they are resting in a landfill somewhere.
-
Thanks to all of you. One of my fav TV cars. Yep, that is how the front wheels set up and no tie rod. I may change the slicks to something bigger also. Except for those things, not a bad kit. The fit was easy and as I said earlier, the coffin is excellent indeed.
-
Grandpa's "DRAGULA" from the "Munsters" TV series. The best thing about this kit is the detail on the coffin. Beautiful indeed. Almost worth the price of the kit. The wire wheels for the front are a disgrace in my opinion. One piece and ugly. If I can find my stash of extra parts, I will replace them. They are not glued yet. Did not like it with a parachute so I put a "BARRIS" decal there instead. Mixed some Tamiya clear Orange and clear Yellow to detail some of the chrome. Not exactly true to the original. but I like it. OOPS...noticed in the pics that I need a slight touch up on rear axle. AND, should have used a cleaner towel for the backdrop...LOL. Thanks for looking.

And....this is only the beginning...LOL

brass rod for roll cages ?
DavidChampagne replied to CrazyGirl's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
There are several detailed builds here using both brass and plastic. I don't know how to do search for that but they are in the "On the workbence" section. Look for subjects that contain Pro Mod and go from there. Good Luck. -
Looking forward to updates. I love building the Tamiya F1 cars. Have built 2 of the 1/12 scale (2 more to build, including my McLaren). Built about 7 or 8 of the 1/20 scale (6 more to build). What scale is yours? Youtube has several vids of building Tamiya models, including a series on the McLaren (pity it is in Japanesse. F1 starts this weekend in Australia. How far from the Austin track are you?

spray can or air brush
DavidChampagne replied to CrazyGirl's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Air brush...hands down. If you can afford it. If you plan to continue this hobby, I would suggest a good air brush ( $150.00 - $200.00). I have a 5 gallon air compressor from Sears. I am thinking about $200.00 when I bought it. But, you can go with a much smaller one. I use mine around the house for airing up tires, blowing dust off parts from sanding, etc. I have seen the complete package with a small compressor at Hobby Lobby, etc. (Don't forget to get a 40% discount coupon on line). With the coupon, you may get away with around $150 - $200 total. I was amazed at much better my bodies look, even the first one. What king of models do you build. Good Luck Anne_and post some pictures. -
What Revell should put out as Kits...
DavidChampagne replied to TheCat's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't think they ever will, but: 1/16 or even 1/8 "Smirnoff" Front End Dragster. Does anyone know of any after market suppliers that offer a conversion kit and decals? Now, that would be a great birthday present for me..LOL -
I still have to paint the cover for the gas filler on the painted side. Other than that it is done.

First completion this year. Tamiya's Williams F1 W/ transparent body. I decided to paint half the body and leave the other half clear. the paint took three attempts. I don't know if it was old paint or the winter weather( I paint in my garage) or air brush problems or what. I am lucky the purple bond did not damage the transparent body. Had difficulties with the decals splitting on me also. Not one of my best. I am thankful to the usual great fit Tamiya is noted for. They are realy great kits.

McClaren MP4-7 paint question
DavidChampagne replied to jhuntsman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have Tamiya's 1/12 McClaren driven by Senna. I am actually thinking of Candy Apple Red over white. Will do a spoon test one of these days I am about to start the Tamiya Toyota GT car that raced at LeManns in 1999. It is red also. may try it on this one first. -
PEGASUS! Flying Mustang A/G Racer...WIP 3-29-13
DavidChampagne replied to Ira's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I may have missed it, but, I am wondering about how you plan to paint it. My two cents worth: every time I look at it, I envision a "Sox & Msrtin" type paint scheme. Can't wait to see it finished. -
Tamiya 1/12 F1 car..anyone of them. May have to spend a bit more though. When you first look at the all the parts and the instruction sheet you will think "What have I got myself into?". I promise you, everything fits so well that it is not hard at all. I assume the other 1/12 Tamiya models would be the same fit and quality.

Red Metal Flake 56 Nomad Revell
DavidChampagne replied to Model Car Kustoms's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I started playing with this paint today. I think you said 13 coats. I believe it. Question: How many bottles per car? -
Truly, a beautiful build. Perfect paint choice.

1:12 Matra MS11 1968
DavidChampagne replied to maysula's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Curtis, You should try one the Tamiya 1/12 F1 cars. Once you start building one of these, you realize how much easier and more fun it is to build compared to less expensive models. I have built 2 and have 2 more to build. "TRY IT! YOU WILL LIKE IT!" -
