  1. I'm not an expert and different resins might be easier than others, but I think this might work for you. Cut two pieces of sponge to fit the cowl, one for above and one for below. Soak them in hot water and sandwich them on the cowl with some tongs, let it transfer the heat to the body for a few seconds and see if it becomes pliable enough to bend. Didn't work, try hotter water or holding it longer. No guarantees this will work, but worth a try. If this idea does work, I would use the firewall or a similar shape to push the cowl up. You want to push the whole area in one shot to prevent waves in the panel.
  2. Bill, Why would you want to waste money on decanting spray can primer? You must have a supply house you deal with for paint at your shop. Why not just buy a quart of primer and some lacquer thinner?
  3. It's about time I got to see you working on something! Looking good Bob.
  4. I tried my best not to disturb the area around the hood, but I guess between the mods on the body and the hood it didn't line up very well. I'm getting close to having it fit with acceptable gaps. I was going to graft a Willy's split window into the back of this, but I've got the window molded in close enough now that I might as well just cut the windows into my filler piece.
  5. Now that's a Lowrider interior!
  6. You won't put stripes on a model by putting it Purple Power, but it will remove the paint. As long as it's not a resin kit you're OK. I've found that keeping the stripper warm will work much faster.
  7. I found the hood. After looking for it all day, I found it in the interior stuck to a piece of tape. Back to work.
  8. Other than curiosity, is there a reason for asking this?
  9. The drops shadows created by the decals through the transparent body are very cool.
  10. Right now I can't remember where I put the hood. So I'm stalled until I find it.
  11. That's the site I found last night. Thanks
  12. The link is broken Allen. I did a little research last night and found some engine pics, looks like it was the 4 carb engine.
  13. The biggest problem in signpainting, oops I guess it's signprinting now, is the lack of knowledge of what it takes to make a good layout. For the most part, what I see is a new breed of sign makers that grew up with photoshop and think filters are the greatest thing in the world. So lets add a diamond plate filter, some fire, and whatever else they have, and forget about a readable sign.
  14. I just noticed that there is not an exhaust outlet on the turbos. I was so engrossed in trying to figure out the "exhaust manifolds" that split to either the turbos or bypassing it, that I didn't even notice there is no pipe coming off the turbo, in fact there is no outlet on the turbo at all. I really need to pay more attention.
  15. You're doing a great job on this kit. If yours is as bad as the one I'm working on, you have certainly put some time into cleaning up this poorly molded little bug. Those Centerlines look really nice painted to match the body. And those bumpers really give it an older look.
  16. It's definitely a Corvair and I realize the fan has nothing to power it. But I'm really interested in the turbo setup.
  17. X3, it doesn't take nearly the amount of heat in the water compared to styrene, so work slowly and cautiously.
  18. I keep telling myself this, but to be honest, I think my brain is broken.
  19. I actually do some of the stuff in vinyl, phone number, DEP numbers, and such. I do try to stick with paint as much as possible for the main layout. I specialize in airbrush lettering, so doing the lesser copy in vinyl doesn't bother me. Stuff like numbers are monotonous to paint.
  20. Cool looking, has potential, or just downright ugly and unsalvagable? Is this engine real? I see no way to power the fan, but what I really want to know is the turbo set up functional or a model fantasy? Are there supposed to be valves of some sort to divert the exhaust to use the turbos at will? Was the real car functional and did it have this setup on it?
  21. Holy Cowinkydinks Batman! I just started a topic on this very same subject on the General board.
  22. I've come to the sad conclusion that finishing a model is not really my goal anymore. There is a great satisfaction to finishing a model, but I've learned that my goal is seeing how much I can alter something that in the end still looks good. At least to me they look good, I'm sure a lot of people think my ideas are stupid or ugly. I've found once I get a project to the final coat of primer I lose interest. Getting a model to final prime is fun for me, paint and finishing all the little details is almost work. Is this some kind of sickness? Part of my job is custom paint, so you would think that's my favorite part. Maybe it's because when it comes to paint I try to be a perfectionist. So is your goal to finish a model?
