  1. I cemented some styrene strips at a 90degree angle to the face of the posts to strengthen it while I work on it. When everything else on the body is done and it is in it's final cat of primer, I'll remove them and clean up the posts for paint. I'm worried if I glue brass to the inside, it will interfere with the fir of the windshield. I do appreciate the idea.
  2. Thanks Bob, dark and evil it will be!
  3. I stripped the chrome last night, it looks a bit meaner already.
  4. One of the reasons you see people using things other than water, is to help it the solvent (in this case water) evaporate faster once applied to the surface. The other main reason is to avoid "Tip dry" which usually happens when using a very small spray pattern for detail work. Water base paints are notorious for drying on the tip of the needle to the point that it will build up enough that eventually if comes off and leaves you with a blob of paint on what you are spraying. As far as advancing past Using naill polish, you might want to reconsider this. Thinned properly with lacquer thinner, it works great for spraying. The other advantage is it's readily available and many brands sell for as little as a $1 a bottle. Nail polish is mt go to for painting bodies, although I wouldn't use it for brush painting.
  5. Looks great John. Chopping that top with those thin pillars is going to be fun.
  6. I really like that Pat. I think I'll go black and red where the white is.
  7. Now that I have a basic body shape it's time to put the plane where it doesn't belong, on the ground! I tried to notch the fuselage for the motor mounts, but it sat too high, I want to crush cockroaches with this thing. I narrowed the frame and made motor mounts to let the engine sit high enough to clear the oil pan. The thin crossmembers are just temporary until I have the drivetrain figured out. I looked for the smallest transmission I had. I stole one from an old Beatnik Bandit and cheated a little by cutting most of the bellhousing section out. Next, I made a tunnel for the frame to fit in out of .030 sheet. Then I started on the floor which I made in two pieces. Doing it this way was much easier to get a good fit. I traced the outline of the tranny into the tunnel, then roughly traced that to the interior floor. Once the cover is made, I'll clean up the cutout area from below. There's not much room for seats. Luckily I plan to use small bomber seats.
  8. I like how you think! Dark and Evil it is!
  9. I've got a couple pics of it here. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/131904-reposting-some-finished-projects/
  10. I need an easy project to get the juices flowing. I'm hoping this will be easy as there are no doors or trunk to open and hinge, and hopefully I will only have to modify the suspension a little. Obviously it's a Red Baron, I just don't know if I want it chrome and showy, or maybe dark and evil, one thing I do know, it will be shiny (I have to keep CrazyJim happy!). My plan was to use a nose from a WW2 fighter plane. I did a cartoon car that was a cross of a t bucket and airplane a few years back and it worked out well. For this I'm using the nose from a 1/48 P-40. I needed to raise the cowl to fit the nose and make a filler to widen the fuselage to fit the cowl. The raised cowl gives it a bit of a chopped look. Once I had it where I liked it, it was time to cement it in place and start filling it with SB.
  11. This is just a tiny fraction of projects I've started.
  12. I'm at about 2% finishing rate.
  13. Next up is am Indy car-65 Corvette hybrid
  14. Next up a first gen Corvair
  15. I've got a couple of requests to see something I've finished. Seeing as I too was a victim of the PB hostage crisis, I thought I would post my very few models that managed to get finished. First up, a 48 Ford Woody.
  16. Would making it into a wedge sectioned El Camino work for you?
  17. Once again some beautiful work Bob. You have a great knack at recreating these old 1/8 scales in 1/25. Plus you really got me on the art work, I was saying to myself "I thought those models were called Big,,,,," then after a little bit I realized you redid them.
  18. I LOVE this! The pickup is spot on for a 50s-60s custom and then not only do you add a cool boat, but you put in an inline 6 in it. Perfection!
  19. Thank you Bill, that is a big help. The carb is similar, there is a blob about the same shape, but it has a tube on top running up to a scoop, instead of running under the engine. Also the manifolds going to the cylinders are tiny looking compared to the one in your pics I agree, and would also bet your entire stash of show rods on it.
  20. Fire up the way back machine.
