With the boot lid done and the nosecone done, I am keen to move onto the roof. I was going to shape the roof from the 2 mm styrene that I have been using for the rest of the body until I realised this would take too long and it would not be evenly contoured. I have come up with a solution to this problem by using something else. All will be revealed tomorrow.
-
Another thing I have started working on is getting extra detail around the doors now that I have worked out the gaps and outline. I carved out the opening for the handle and lock and deepened the bottom edge below the belt line.
-
In oder to finish the nose cone properly I need to re attach the other body side. With that done I used white putty to fill in any difference in the hood and nose cone height.
-
With the symmetry gauge completed, I moved onto the front. I have been wanting to make the nose cone for a while so the first thing I did was trace the basic shape.
-
I double checked it against the body to make sure it was as tight as I could get it.
-
In order to to do this I needed to make a symmetry gauge. A symmetry gauge is basically just a template that allows for both sides to be the same. After tracing the shape onto 2mm thick styrene, I carefully cut it out and added a balsa wood frame to keep it rigid.
-
And here is how it looks in relation to the rest of the body. You will notice I have added the lip to the rear wheel arch as well as the front. I am more or less happy with the shape of both arches so I decided that it was time to reproduce these arches on the other side.
-
As well as the contour the edge dips in slightly again this follows the convex shape of the rear window. This is the underside, like the hood I am yet to make the inner skin. This will be the hard part and at the moment I am more concerned with how the boot fits externally.
-
Once I had finished folding down the rear I needed to shape the leading edge. There is a slight contour on the leading edge so the boot that follows the flow of the windscreen.
-
The other thing I have been keen to create is the boot lid. This was a very easy task. The first thing I did after getting the measurements and cutting it to scale was to fold down the rear. I used an old vice to do this. The base of the vice was broken but the upper part still worked so I am glad I did not throw it out.
-
The other thing I have been wanting to do is finish off the front wheel arches so I ended up creating the basic lip by using white putty.
-
The other thing I did was add the belt line.
-
Here is how it looks after deepening the cuts.

With that done I transferred it to the other side so that I could get the outline on this correct.

Hey Guys. I finally have internet back and a backlog of photos to put up so here goes. The uploads may have been delayed but the build has continued. The first thing I did when I got back was take a template of the door.

Hey Guys. Just a quick update. In case you are wondering why I have not been uploading anything lately, its because I have no internet at the moment. I am in the process of getting a new ISP but they will not be able to install the equipment until Thursday next week. That does not effect the progress of the build however and once I am back online I will have plenty of new images to upload. Cheers !

Hey Guys. I have started back to work on the project. Sorry no photos because I have no internet at the moment. I am in the process of getting a new ISP and I will be back online in about a week or so. Sorry for the hold ups but my internet has been failing every six weeks or so lately. The new ISP will solve that problem, I hope. Anyway the build will continue as normal. I have started adding the lips to the wheel arches and I added the door to the other side. I am still documenting each step of the build so when I finally up load all the images at the end of next week, there should be plenty to look at. Cheers !

Hey Guys. Just a quick update. I just got yesterday so am looking forward to getting back into the build. While away I picked up some .8 mm square tubing that will be used for the gutter rails. That will be the next task and all going well I will have photo's up in the next few days. Cheers,

Its pretty basic but its starting to look more like the ones in the 1:1 images. After sanding the first coat of putty a second coat of white putty was added and sanded as well. The next task will be to remove the hood, clean up the inside and and add a belt line. While away I will buy buying some more half round especially for this task. You may notice I have cut away an area at the front for the radiator. Anyway when I get back next week I will wrap up the the hood and move onto the interior.

Hey Guys. I was glad to get this out of the way before heading off tomorrow. Another trip is not something I really want to do but while away i will be able to get more materials for this build. Anyway I made up the top of the hood today. I cut a piece of 2mm thick styrene and before I attached it I glued in a piece of tubular sprue to the top of the hood front face. This sprue is to simulate the rounded edge. Once again automotive putty was layed over the top. I was unsure of how I would do the corners so I decided to lay on an extra amount of putty into the gaps where the corners were going to go.

Here is how the contour looks in there cradle jig. There is still some filling to do on the lower half but that will be taken care of with the addition of the belt line. But before the belt line can be added, the door lines will need to be scribed in from the template from the other door. That will be the next task. Unfortunately that will not be until next week, I have to go away again, sorry guys. Once back the build will be back in full swing and you can expect some major contraction over the next few week including the roof and trunk.
