  1. To be honest, that's a bit more green than I prefer... But aside from the personal preference, that's a very sharp, crisp, clean model. Well done!
  2. What would the benefit of a lever steering system be over a traditional steering wheel? And why two independently-movable levers? You can only steer in one direction at any given time; I don't see how two independently-operable steering levers could possibly work, or why they would be needed.
  3. Well, yeah, if what you want is a social experience, of course you're not going to get that when shopping online. I get that. But for me, when I shop for kits and stuff, I'm not looking for a gab session... I'm looking for what I want at the lowest price I can find. And for that, you just can't beat shopping online.
  4. In Photobucket, when you click the "Share" link of a photo, you get a pop-up window with three lines of info. You need to copy the third one, the IMG info (the line of info that starts with URL...), and paste that here. What you did is post the Email/IM link, which is wrong. If you copy that third line of info and paste that here, your picture will show up here.
  5. Did you guys notice that at the time this thing was built, the wheels weren't flanged like on trains today, but the rails were flanged!
  6. Yeah, ergonomics wasn't really factored into the design...
  7. You might want to learn how to focus the camera...
  8. I can't post my favorite Tragically Hip song here because they use a naughty word in the lyrics. But I also really like this one of theirs...
  9. Ok, music lovers... what bands/artists from the Great White North do you like? My personal favorites... Guess Who, BTO (actually an offshoot of Guess Who), Cowboy Junkies, Neil Young, and Tragically Hip. My all-time favorite Guess Who song...from 1969...
  10. Seriously... I don't understand why anyone wouldn't shop online. You type in google.com... type in what you want, and presto! The entire planet of places that will sell you what you're looking for is there on your screen, and all you have to do is click on the one with the lowest price and it comes to your door. Does it get any easier than that? I don't understand this loyalty some of you have towards supporting the LHS, despite the sky-high prices and limited inventory.
  11. Hmmmmm.... a book...... now there's an idea!
  12. Thanks, Craig! I specialize in weird subjects...
  13. Ditto to all the above. That's a beauty for sure!
  14. Maybe Bill Engwer will see this and weigh in. He's pretty well versed in engineering... he might have some insight as to why this thing was geared the way it was.
  15. Love the colors! Beautiful work, Ray.
  16. You aren't the only one who thought he has been banned when in fact you have not been. It's definitely a software problem. Gregg???
  17. I guess by gearing both wheels there's less stress on the drive wheels than if only one was geared, and you reduce the chances of breaking a gear tooth? Just a wild guess. Remember, this was 1804... engineering back then wasn't what it is today.
  18. I don't understand why you have such a hard time posting pictures or videos. For a video, all you do is copy the info in the URL window at the top of the browser and paste it here. It takes 5 seconds.
  19. This is the Minicraft kit of the Trevithick "Pen-y-Darren" steam locomotive from 1804. Englishman/engineer/inventor Richard Trevithick had already built large stationary steam-powered engines for factory and mill use... this was his first "mobile" steam engine, and the world's first successful steam locomotive. The model is very small... it's 1/38 scale ... the whole thing, both locomotive and coal car combined, is only about eight inches long. All the paint is acrylic craft paint, which I "grimed up" with black washes. I added real wood on the floor of the coal car. This is definitely a "different" model!
  20. Like one of these? Yep, it's my model. Same company, same type of model.
  21. How do we know the whole thing isn't faked? Who's to say that's real rust, it could all have been done with a spray gun.
