  1. Also, check out the October 2008 Model Cars Mag for a great article on weathering and creating a rusty looking surface using plain old salt!
  2. If you use chalks and pastels, you can seal it with a flat clearcoat spray. There are flat clear acrylic sprays sold in crafts stores like Hobby Lobby. Here's what I found at Hobby Lobby. 11 ounce spray can was $5.49.
  3. You better run a little spell check there. Chicken Parmesan is misspelled...
  4. Hey Clay... on your new avatar the word "infidel" is spelled wrong...
  5. How about it? Real or model? The answer: REAL! And remember... if you KNOW the answer because you found the photo, DON'T spoil the fun and tell everyone. This isn't about trying to find the photo... it's about trying to decide whether it's "real" or "model" by looking at the photo!
  6. Steelers win! Oh well... I was sorta rooting for Kurt Warner, but it wasn't meant to be...
  7. Springsteen RULES! George, I guess we'll have to "agree to disagree". But hey... we still have ROM, right?
  8. George, buddy, if you dis Bruce you are in SERIOUS trouble with me!
  9. Patience! ROM appears on Monday mornings.
  10. So I'm watching the Super Bowl, not because I'm interested (the Bears aren't in it this time, so who cares???), but more out of a sense of duty as an American male. We have to watch, don't we? Bored by the game, but I LOVED the halftime show! Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce!!!
  11. The Tigers? Bring 'em on! That's one team we don't have much trouble beating!!! Right. George?
  12. I have to agree with all the guys here... If all you ever build is NASCAR, no wonder you lost the urge. You've been building the same model over and over and over again! It's like the movie Groundhog Day! Branch out into other things! I don't have to list the possibilities, you know they're out there. It's normal to go through "non-building" times. Heck, I go for literally years sometimes between anything. And I actually got a little tired of building cars lately, so in the past several months I haven't even touched a model car at all, but I HAVE built several planes and a couple of wooden ship models... both new subjects to me, and they were all a lot of fun to do. Too bad this is a model car site... or I'd post the photos!
  13. We're trying to cover a wider range of subjects in the magazine. Obviously not everyone will like every article... that's life. But we try to provide a wide range of stuff for you guys. The tractor feature is not a "model railroading" subject... it's not a train, it's a tractor. It's more closely related to a truck than a train. And the weathering techniques used on it apply to model cars. Yes, technically it's NOT a car, but the article has good information in it that can be used on any car model. If we run a NASCAR feature we hear from the guys who aren't into NASCAR, if we run a Porsche feature we hear from the guys who aren't into sports cars, if we run a funny car feature we hear from the guys who aren't into drag racing... and so on. You can't please everyone every time with everything. No matter what the subject, there are tips and techniques and ideas you can take from it and apply to your specific area of interest. Don't worry, there won't be any boats or tanks appearing in Model Cars anytime. But I think the tractor article, while a little off the beaten path, was a worthwhile feature. And as to the production schedule... WE'RE WORKING ON IT!!!!
  14. I have to chime in here, too. So many of us take our safe, stable, day-to-day existence for granted. But the fact is, there are a relatively few number of people out there who's hard work and sacrifice makes it possible for all the rest of us to sleep at night. We may not necessarily always agree on the politics involved, but I think we can all agree that we as a nation are safer because of the efforts of those people. Thanks, Clay... and everyone else who either serves, or has served, the country.
  15. Golf??? Isn't that what guys who don't build model cars do for a hobby???
  16. The steam tractor article was a little "different" for sure... but hopefully most of you found it interesting. And remember, the techniques used on that model apply just as well to a model car!
  17. If I do run into you there I'll expect a beer!
  18. So you voted "model", eh???
  19. Well, we had a sudden unexpected end here. Yes, its real. And based on the voting, I WON!!! You guys were fooled. Looks like I will have to spell out the "rules" every time... The problem is, will people bother to read??? I don't know...
  20. Here's a site that has a bunch of tutorials that may help you out. http://www.briansmodelcars.com/tutorials/index But make sure you stick around here and post photos of your work. We want you as a member here!
  21. Be glad you found this one... it's the best one there is. If you want to try others, do a google search. You'll find them. Then you'll come back here...
  22. Looks like it would be a lot of fun getting at the spare if you get a flat...
  23. I don't think I've ever heard of somebody going to a Superbowl party who didn't even know who's playing!!! BTW... Arizona Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers.
  24. Dave, that is absolutely too cool for words! You are doing a fantastic job! Keep on doing what you're doing... and you know where this will end up...
  25. mmmmmmmmmmm, gravy..........
