Man, that's gorgeous! We should all have our "simple" builds look that good!

About my building.
Harry P. replied to Helipilot16's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't see the phrase "I build for myself" as meaning what you seem to believe that it means. Nobody ever said that a guy who enters model contests can't enjoy the building process. Nobody ever said that those who don't enter contests are the only ones who can enjoy building. That's all stuff that you seem to have read into the statement. I'll take your point about modelers who build models but don't enjoy it being a rare breed a step further: I don't think there's anybody who builds models that doesn't enjoy it, whether they enter contests or not. After all, if a person didn't enjoy it, they wouldn't do it! I don't think it's a matter of disagreeing with you... it's a matter of interpreting the phrase "I build for myself." Apparently you and I understand that phrase differently. But that's ok... offering differing opinions are part of what this place is all about, right? If we all agreed on everything we might just as well close this thing up altogether and move on to a different forum. -
Feedback for you: The front of the body is sitting too high. The injector scoop's openings are almost under the body... they should be higher and out in the open (in other words, the body should be sitting much lower in front). Is there something inside that's interfering with how the body sits?

And I'd like to challenge your statement. You say "I often build with competition in mind, but I don't build for awards"... How is that logically possible? How does one build with competition in mind but say they're not building in an effort to win an award? That's what "competition" is... it's competing against others to determine who's model is "best" or which model deserves an award above the others. You can't have a contest without giving awards... that's impossible! And to enter your model into a contest with no desire to win an award seems pointless to me. Why enter in the first place then? If getting an award isn't the point of entering a competition, then what is the point? Just "hanging out" with other builders? Seeing what others are up to? That can all be accomplished just by attending a contest, no need to enter it yourself. I say that not to knock contests or those who enter contests... but to me, saying that you build for contests but don't care about awards seems kind of nonsensical. If you build a model with the intent of competing with it, there's nothing wrong with that! Why try to emphasize the point that you "don't care" about awards? Seems to me to be perfectly natural to care about awards if you enter a contest. I sure wouldn't bother entering a contest if I didn't care about winning it... what would be the point? I can't speak for others, but when I say I "build for myself", what I mean is that I have no intent of ever having my model judged by others in comparison to other models. In other words, I don't care if my model would or would not impress anyone else, because it will never have to. It'll never be entered into a competition against other models. That's what I mean by saying I build "just for myself". People who build a model with the intent of entering that model into competition are obviously building not only for their own satisfaction, but to impress the judges at the contest. They are building for themselves... and also for the approval of others. Again, nothing wrong with that! Once again... not knocking contests, builders who like to compete, the giving out of awards, etc.. I don't have any problem with any of that other than it just doesn't interest me. I guess the basic divide is between "public" builders (those who enter shows and contests and join clubs), and "private" builders (those who don't really "share" their work with others). Neither way is inherently right or wrong... it's just two different ways to enjoy the same hobby. Either way is perfectly legit. I just happen to be a "private" builder. -
Right now you're probably wondering where your government bailout check is...

I also build totally for my own enjoyment, and like you, the models I post here and elsewhere are the only way anyone else will ever see them (unless you come to my house!). I don't build models in order to compete with others. I have absolutely no desire to enter contests. For me, building models is strictly a personal, solitary hobby. Not knocking the contest guys, just giving my own opinion... as requested! -
Just wondering... Why did you re-do all the kit's chrome parts with Alclad???
-
Ok... we've all had a chance to chime in here. And now we all know the rule about using your real name. Hopefully those of you who have refused to do so until now will change your mind. No real point in going on with this topic... it's pretty much all been said. Move along folks... nothing to see here...

To all of you guys who insists on not using your name: Nobody is trying to "ruin" anything. I'm not sure how or why this rule came about, but it IS the rule. Theoretically, everyone who signed on here agreed to obey the rules when they became a member. It's a very simple request. Nobody is asking anything outrageous... we're not asking to to post up your SSN, last year's tax return, or tell us where the spare key to your front door is hidden. All we're asking for is your NAME, fer cryin' out loud! The vast majority of you do use your name in your sig... only a few of you refuse to do so. There's really no reason to ignore that rule, so I'm really wondering why a few of you are so insistent on keeping your name hidden. What in the world is the problem with showing us your name? And finally... again to all of you who refuse to show your name... you'll notice that up until this particular topic, there has been very little, if any, pressure on any of you to do so. Yes, it's a rule, and you are expected to follow the rules without being nagged about it. This place is not one of those heavy-handed, overly-moderated boards where people's posts get locked or deleted for mysterious reasons... if anything, there is LESS moderation here than on most boards. I don't think anyone has any real complaint as far as the moderating here goes. Most everyone gets along just fine.

No not all are computer gurus, but you can bet that the ones who make their "living" committing web crimes sure are!

For those of you who actually think that keeping your last name off this site is somehow "protecting" you, you are sadly mistaken. Like I said before, if anyone wants to seriously make your life miserable, they have dozens and dozens of places to find far more information than just your last name. Keeping your last name hidden on this site has absolutely no effect on your overall internet privacy or security. Think about this: ALL of you on this site obviously have internet access, right? Which means you all have signed up for internet service from someone...right??? Does your internet service provider know your name, first and last? Yeah, I think so. And so do many others...

Will you be using Ford OEM head gaskets or aftermarket???

I'll try to be gentle... But the "Shaker" scoop on your yellow 'cuda is actually supposed to be attached to the engine. The hood had a cutout that allowed the scoop to stick out through it.

There is no board rule against multiple accounts. But there is a rule that says you're supposed to put your full name in your signature line. I didn't make the rules... I'm just telling you what they are.
-
Identity theft? Newsflash: your full name and a whole lot more about you is already online in more places than you even realize. Ever buy anything online? Ever paid a bill online? Have any bank accounts that you opened online? Do you have a credit card? Ever even applied for a credit card? A debit card? A checking account? Do you own a car? Have you ever voted? Do you have a social security card? Any of those things, and many more, put your personal information "out there". Putting your full name in your signature line here has absolutely no bearing on how safe you are from identity theft. Your name and personal info is already in so many places it would make your head spin. Adding your full name to your signature here won't make one bit of difference as far as your online security. If the bad guys want your info, it's already out there in cyberspace...
-
There's no specific rule against having more than one account.
-
Since you're checking out the rules... Have you seen the one where you're supposed to put your full name in your signature?
-
Huh???

How about this? The answer: MODEL!

Hobby Lobby has those in different sizes too. They're not self-adhesive, though... they come in little plastic bags. They're in the jewelry supplies aisle, which is a great aisle to find all sorts of stuff that can be used to detail models. If you've never checked out the jewelry aisle at Hobby Lobby, make sure you do. You'll be amazed at how much stuff in that aisle lends itself to detailing model cars. -
I don't want to give out links because it's too hard to find good pictures. If I start revealing my sources, it'll make it even harder for me to find pictures that'll fool you! And there are already a few of you guys who already are way too good at this (yeah, I'm talking to you, zoom zoom!!!). But I guarantee you it's real. Looks to me like the background has been altered (not by me... that's how I found the photo)... but the car is real.

If you are talking about brush painting small parts like engine pieces, mufflers, etc., you can brush Testors Metalizers. I do it all the time. I know it says "airbrush only" but I don't see why you can't brush them on... and I do, have been for years.
